From Trash to Treasure: The Ultimate Roadside Dresser Makeover

  • This dark and dingy tossed dresser is about to go even darker. I'm using Minwax's Semi Transparent water based stain in True Black to take this discarded piece to a whole other level. There were some ups and downs, but overall, I LOVE how this refinished piece turned out. What's that saying? One man's trash is another man's treasure? Indeed.

    Not sure how any one else feels but watching these videos is so relaxing and grounding for me. I think it's because of Angie's attention to details and the almost spa like background music.
    This was a bold choice for this piece. Idk that I could've been so brave. Well done and someone will be getting a ome of a kind piece as are all of Angie's wonderful transitions.

    What draws me to your videos is your willingness to share your thought processes and your experimentation while restoring a piece. I have unsubscribed from so many who just preach at me. You instead show me what choices you consider and how you reach a final choice. I really find this piece very attractive. I have no doubt you can get a high money return on this piece. Extremely well done Angie!!

    Angie, you can feel really good about taking the extra time for the details, like finishing the back panel, as you do. What might seem obsessive in one context is a distinguishing attention to detail here, which is part of what sets you apart from the rest of the flippers and refinishers. Congrats on another beautiful rescue! Between rescuing bunnies and vintage furniture, you are making a nice dent in changing the world.

    I love how you like to involve your audience with your thought processes on how to approach each piece. I would've been reluctant to test a stain on any part of the actual furniture, but your logic and knowing the final outcome you wanted made perfect sense, and when those of us are still learning how to approach our own pieces of furniture we want to restore, it's a relief to get those more detailed explanations of how and why.

    Love how you measure twice and sometimes three times before drilling the holes for the new handles. That's real care in your craft. In the past, I viewed mid-century pieces as throw-away cheap things not worth the trouble to save. But your attention to your craft, and your vision, have shown me a new way of seeing what they really were and what they can still be. The ability to educate in that way takes you from craftsperson to artisan. I believe that life-long learning is the key to a rich existence; and I am grateful to all my teachers. The end result is definitely the look of a high end piece of furniture. As always, your work is meticulously and beautifully done. Always appreciate you "defending" these composite pieces, because so many people are dismissive of them and they tend to look so dated and unattractive in their original finish. They're not solid wood but as you pointed out, they often fare better over time than all wood pieces. And you make them all look beautiful. Well done!

    The transformation is outstanding! Designers say every room needs at least one black item to ground the room. This would be that piece. It's the LBD (little black dresser) for every bedroom. Such great old world meets art deco design. I appreciate when you share the process. Sometimes you have to go through a lot of stain to get the right one. Well done, You!

    I'm new to your channel, and wanted to share that I truly enjoy watching your video's,. It's an amazing outcome every time, WOW! Though some pieces may be challenging, you have such grace on how you handle and treat each piece of furniture. At least it's what resonates as you explain what you're doing. Love you knowledge!

    When drilling your holes into veneer you could try setting your drill into reverse first and drilling backwards to form an initial countersink before drilling forward as normal. Backwards doesn't chew the veneer.

    It’s funny how the brass pulls make it something completely different and modern. Yes, the resurrection transformed it but if you put the old pulls back on, it would have dated the piece and made it scream, hand me down. This is a new piece! Love it!

    Angie, you are such a nice person, kind and thoughtful. I just want to say, please don’t ever let the darker side of TH-cam, those people that make the nastier, spiteful comments and live in TH-cam’s dark heart, get to you to change that or bring you down! I think those people thrive from the nastiness they spread, and it’s hateful. So please, if that stuff starts eating at you, turn the comments off & never look at them again, know that you and your work is massively appreciated and admired, and undoubtedly always will be, and those dark hearted fuckers can keep their nastiness to themselves! In my experience, the people that spread light, like yourself, seem to attract the dark ones. Maybe in their twisted minds they think that bringing someone else low, lifts them up. It doesn’t! They just haven’t learnt yet that hurting others doesn’t cure whatever’s been inflicted on them.
    Don’t quite know where all that came from. I just felt the need to say it, ‘cos you’re such a genuinely nice person and in this world, where we can be anything at all, we should all try to be kinder & nicer.

    • @NaNaTT549
      @NaNaTT549 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are so right. It seems like Angie feels she has to over explain herself & what & why she's doing what she's doing because of some of the nasty comments. Like she's trying too hard to pre-empt those comments.
      Angie honey do whatever you want with your furniture pieces & if those nasty people don't like what you do with your furniture pieces, it's okay to tell them, when THEY get their own pieces, THEY can do whatever they want with them. But

      @TranscendFurnitureGallery  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haters and dumb comments really don’t upset me at all on a personal level. That’s what I was trying to say in this video. What upsets me is that so many people feel the need, the urge, to behave like school children. Actually, I take that back- I was a school child and never bullied anyone. Lol
      I just find it sad that society has become so vile and cruel to complete strangers. But their actual words to ME roll off because 99% of the time, they are either entirely incorrect about something, or absolutely ridiculous.

    Why is cleaning the surfaces (aside from dust, sticky residue or whatever) so important if you are going to strip it etc.? Does the smell bother you perhaps? It seems to me anything that any odor would be entirely eliminated with the stripper, the stain or paint and the clear coat. What stink can survive that?

    • @TranscendFurnitureGallery
      @TranscendFurnitureGallery  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t normally clean if I’m going to strip them, but where this was picked up on the side of the road, I wanted to clean the whole thing immediately upon it coming into my work room. You just never know. Sometimes things are kicked to the curb for a reason, so wanted to make sure it was “good” before assessing what I wanted to do with it.

      @@TranscendFurnitureGallery Love the vids! Its nice to see how someone who knows what she doing does things. I have only had one project turn out to be something I was proud of and my father's dog ruined it trying to steal cat food while I had it stored in his basement.
