If there's one card I could recommend for this deck as someone who's been on the ladder with Boglesy decks like this before, it's Valorous Stance. A reasonable protection spell that also kills most things this deck might consider a problem to deal with, most of all Sheoldred.
while it has a spot for some strategies, I don't think it's what this deck needs. security breach is what deals with shelly in the way this deck needs, as does skrelv. valorous stance might be able to deal with some threats and save from some spells, but definitely not all (looking at you, blue) and it doesn't make the virtuoso grow really (aside from the possible connive). Shelly and others shouldn't be alive long enough to be a threat if you do protection properly or you'd likely die to its deck either way.
what would you even swap out for VS over what's already there?
a few seasons ago I went from plat to mythic with the bant version of this deck- 4 illuminator, 4 stormchaser drake, 4 ivy, 4 venerated rotpriest- the poison really scares people and can very easily be the secondary wincon if you draw right. the only proactive card was homestead courage and everything else was protection. plus a couple skrelvs. my favorite deck.
I think cgb was a little greedy trying to one-shot opponents in some games and not leave up protection. since theres no removal in these decks and your entire strategy is protection, sometimes its best to even wait til turn 3 or 4 to run out a 2 drop, because cut down is so good against us. having 1 mana open for a single protection spell is often not enough either. they cast a kill spell, you cast protection, they cast a second cut down, but you only left one mana open so now you're screwed. cgb did that early in this video. a lesson i have learned many times the hard way.
That 2-mana white spell that brings back a dead creature and gives it a young hero token could work well in this too, albeit as a backup plan for if they manage to kill your creature early
@10:44 was the smite not insufficient? It only deals 3, so after conniving Virtuoso would be aout of range and would attack for lethal or do I miss something?
I guess he was playing around a potential double smite? Staff can tap for mana but that's the only thing I can think of.
I rewatched because I thought I missed something, I wouldve played the courage again. Still couldve used march if they had another smite

Thank you! This is one of my favorite decks to play now! Although i modified it a bit to remove skrelv, and half of the marches, to add more 1 mana hexproof protection.
Its been working really well to just cycle through spells and all the protection helps to keep my virtuoso alive. Ive been 10-1 (the loss was when i mulliganned 4 times before i found a creature) so far, but im only mid platinum
It definitely brings me back to the Strixhaven days, with the budget selesnya mage craft decks!
Has there ever been a more wide open Standard meta? There is at least one viable option in 4 of the five mono colors and also in ALL of the 2 color pairs. 3 color decks are easy with the mana we have. Aggro, Control, Midrange, & Combo where all represented at WORLDS!! Even the tier 2 or 3 decks can thrive and enjoy.
My version of this deck had Saiba cryptomancer in it. Can either protect the illuminator or become the big threat that's hexproof

Yeah I was thinking that too, having to mull to 8 threats seems really inconsistent. Several sets ago I had a ton of success with a Boros list based around Angelfire Ignition, but it kind of just stopped winning after MOM. I guess it's time to dust off the Virtuoso again!

There's 4 copies of shore up, 4 copies of slip out the back, 4 copies of March of swirling mist. I think would get rid of 2 marches and 2 shore ups since slip is probably the best / cheapest protection spell.
17:41 You (really should pass the priority to check for stuffs before compromizing. Just pass to blockers and check it. Its very easy.

YES! This has been my favorite deck since its inception, and Virtuoso is such a cool card when comboed with unblockable or flying enchantmens!
I play a similar deck but UG instead for Ivy and stuff like Royal Treatment, lifelink does sound appealing though.
I used to run a full-on Bant Bogles deck, that I've now converted to being a more proper Bant Poison deck that's also really fun lol
@@Nouxatar I find the Poison builds too all in on the combo, that being said I've been playing some form of UG tempo since Strixhaven so there's that. Question: is the mana on a Bant build too slow for a Bogles style deck or is it a non-issue?

@@alonsocarrasco5460 Oh, it's not even the combo anymore lol. Just a bunch of aggressive selesnya toxic creatures with swirling mist to fog or combo, and bring the ending to beat out boardwipes :P that said, the mana base can be a Bit problematic, you can't play things on one as often as you want but if you're playing more tempo-ey and leaving up mana for a protection spell then sometimes that's perfectly okay.

Fell for one of these decks the other day, I don't really think this is a meta killer, though; by the time I saw the second one I knew that I had to blow up the virtuoso at all costs, and they don't do shit else if you manage that.
I wish I was able to head to Orlando, but I'm already going to SLC for 2 weeks, so I'll be hitting up the Magic Summit

I keep seeing decks that were almost the first "competitive" deck I ever built; my double-Strike dude was Jawbone Duelist, my Skrelv was Skrelv, and my strategy was Sword of ProG+R as I toxic'd the opponent to death. It made my happiness to Double-Strike with a Poison2 unblockable dude. Virtuoso is also a good card, which makes it a Double-Strike card, but it makes me sad that there's no love for Mr Poison, even if you only want 3 poison for Corrupted for a blue Bring The End
Selesnya or Bant Poison is definitely a niche deck that CGB has played before.
I like these kinds of deck but i never draw the right combination of creatures and spells. Its a powerful strategy when you draw well but when you dont you sorta just flownder about feeling miserable.

I have a deck almost identical to this but I run saiba cryptomancer as well it fits really nicely into the bogles with it's hexproof and doubles as protection for your other creatures having both backup (giving a +1 counter and hexproof) and flash
why play 2 mana hexproof when u can play multiple 1 mana hexproofs?

17 white and 15 blue sources. Do you really need that much colored mana or is there nothing colorless you can use? Edit: Ok, there are turns late game when you need it all as colored mana.
Theres multiple cards that are one colored and that you want to dump all of a sudden. So yes colored mana is important.
A deck as inconsistent as this one doesn't want any inconsistency in its mana

I used to enjoy this kind of deck when Clever Lumimancer was still standard legal. Nowadays I feel it's a bit of an odd mixture of boring and nerve-wracking. Leaning towards the former after watching a couple games.

Depending on a single creature is just too unpredictable.
I guess we can say that decks like this aren't meant to be competitive, they're just fun! Except they're only fun when you draw well and/or you face an opponent who doesn't have much removal.
So maybe on paper. But not in Arena. Not with this shuffler and this matchmaker.
I think what you mean is this deck loses 80 percent of the time. Haven't had a win with it yet

this deck is pretty much unplayable for me. idk why, but I am completely incapable of getting a good 7 at the beggining of the game for this deck. it's either entirely lacking creatures and doesn't draw into them, or it's a 1 lander with only creatures, there's something going on between this deck and the hand smoothing algorithm that makes it unplayable.
This the most mtchmaker rigged series of games ever.
