    I was putting in the AC's while the wife had the Create Channel on and Travels with Darley was on, Anyway she was in Belgium and she just happen to go to the town if of Waterloo and showed what it looked like today. The Battle field was pretty much untouched as it was under Gov protection. Natural the town was modern but the farm house and the field looked the same. There was also a huge hill with a lion on top but when you get to the top you see a great view if the battle field. As this was a PBS show you might be able to see this ob TH-cam. I would love to see this in person as I am a huge Napoleonic's fan.

    Ive been looking around online and I still can’t figure out if I need doubles of anything for Epic Napoleonics. The products don’t say that you do, but then there’s a hint that you might from the designer. Does any play epic who knows if doubles of any set are needed?

    Nice review, mange. I've been looking for a fun Napoleonics game that wasn't too complicated and had nice components and I stumbled across your video. Liked and subscribed. Interested to see more of your reviews.

    Looking forward to playing this with my son for the first time... we've played Battle Cry, Memoir 44 and BattleLore and have thoroughly enjoyed them all, each for their own unique character. I think Napoleonics seems to be the fine wine of Command & Colors... just hope I don't get my 13 year old drunk with power!

    Yeah, I was thinking the same thing and I heard you mentioned her in the review. Does she live in Oslo too? Glad I found your channel, because my taste in board games are kind of similar to yours. After watching your top 100 games of all time, it seems like you enjoy games regardless of which genres they fit into (including war games) and that is just awesome. Just found and liked your Facebook page by the way.

    hi i have a question do you have to buy expansion kits in order to get other armies(austrians,russians etc)?

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer
      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. GMT has made several expansions to this game. I have not yet played any of them, however. I hope to in the future.

    • @michalxo
      @michalxo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Get the last expansion first. Tacticians are awesome and puts game into very new level. Also, base game scenarios are a bit "dull", as there are not many objectives. Scenarios go mainly as French attack, British stand and occasionally attack :)
      Russian & Austrians expansions are next in line. ;)
      PS: I own all but Spanish exp so far, preordered Grand battles.

      As I mentioned in the video, a friend of mine recommended this game. She told me that it was the best of the C&C games. She was right. I currently do not have any of the expansions, but it is possible for the future. Keep you eyes open in the coming weeks, though- got some surprises on the show with C&C Napoleonics coming.

    Would battlelore in yr opinion outshine this game? Thx

    • @benfoster6715
      @benfoster6715 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I sold Battlelore 2.0 after getting this game. My only negative for Battlelore is how the VP hexes work in conjuction with the army building (only became an issue w/ the army expansions). This "pregame" customization can lead to an imbalanced and unfun experience for someone who isn't into customizable games.
      Pros for CCN: Prefer the blocks over minis; family and wargamer friends like the historical setting; setting up a scenario ahead of time makes it easier to convince people to play (lol); satisfying amount of combat calculation with different unit types, terrain, and nationalities; the victory point system isn't a timer like Battlelore 2.0 system, so gives more time to reposition units/reinforce formations

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer
      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      C&C Napoleonics is the superior game. I do enjoy the cool figures and fantasy theme of Battlelore, 2nd ed., so they both have a place on my shelf.

    I was not impressed with this game, because of the square rules. The situation was...
    I had 3 infantry units which were attacked by 3 horse squadrons. They formed square. This little section of the battle field was off by itself, nothing else was near.
    He attacks me. He rolls the dice and hits on infantry side of dice (2/6), and on retreats (1/6) (because infantry in square can't retreat). So 50% of the time (for each of several dice), the cavalry are hitting my infantry. My men are going down like ten pins.
    I shoot back, and roll a single die. (Infantry in square do not fire at full strength, because 3/4 of them are facing the wrong way.) I need to get a horseman icon (1/6). Fire and miss. Meanwhile, I've lost 3 cards, so it is hard to bring more people over to help.
    Picture it: a cavalry man rides up and aims a pistol at a mass of infantry in square. He fires. The pistol ball smashes back 20 infantry men killing them all instantly. The square fires, a hundred muskets go off. All shots miss. Cavalry officer rides back to reload the killer pistol.
    I would have been better off not forming square.
    So cavalry can SLAUGHTER infantry in square. Highly a-historical.
    That rule pretty much poisoned the game for me, since I can't take it seriously.
    Warm regards, Rick.

      Hi Cody,
      Don't you think that infantry in square should be able to hit cavalry milling about near by more often than vise versa?
      Warm regards, Rick.

    • @newworld75
      @newworld75 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve yet to play it but maybe there’s a house rule that could use to “fix” that bug as you see it?

    • @RicksPoker
      @RicksPoker 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@newworld75
      Hi Jeff,
      If I were to make house rules to try to fix this I would do three (or four) things...
      1) Infantry in square if a retreat result is rolled against them, may retreat if they wish, or they may stand firm.
      2) Cavalry can ONLY hit infantry in square on a wild (crossed swords) result.
      3) A formation of cavalry shooting at infantry in square roll a maximum of one die.
      The result of this is a stand off. Each side can shoot at the other, but are hitting only on a 1/6 chance. So, usually, they sit about without being able to hurt the other.
      Strategy in that time was you used cavalry to force them to form square, and then bombarded the infantry with cannon. The infantry was helpless, and packed tight together. Cavalry was incapable to harming a square, but with combined arms, the infantry was helpless.
      If you wanted to capture the vulnerability of infantry in square verses cannon, you could say that...
      4) Cannon, verses infantry in square, hit on cannon and wild (crossed sword) results.
      Warm regards, Rick.

    'the game' takes miniature table top historical wargames back to a cross between chess and kriegspiel, this along with the 'generic system', and the designers historical bias, reduces it to a novel system playable a few times before it falls to:- DBM syndrome (Dead Boring Most of the time).
