    That’s on of the Amrad universal capacitors. You add the terminals accordingly to get to the micro MFD you need. They work well but are $$$$. They can get you out of a jam

      Super expensive all bc you have multiple taps. But you can switch to a diff combo on sum. Like if you have a 7.5mfd rating for blower. You can either use the 7.5 tab or jumper 5 and 2.5mfd. This can give you xtra life in case the 7.5 gets low you can switch the terminals to 5 and 2.5mfd

    Why not change the shrader core on that leaky port? Cap will do the trick, but it is only a band-aid. Just asking.

      @@hvacshinobi8047 That King valve suction port does have schrader core. If it did not, when he removed the cap, the refrigerant would have let loose. I did not see him mess with the king valve to front-seat, back-seat.

      @Ma Ma; I'm guessing that the Schrader core remove/replace tool couldn't be installed at a workable angle in relation to the pad/ground to effectively use?? The entire suction side being at the mercy of a 0.32¢ siliconized rubber O-ring and a brass cap - is damn scary, though!

      It’s a universal capacitor. The only ones I’m familiar with are made in the USA (Florida). They’re a good option when you run into a unit you don’t have a specific capacitor for. Some guys carry a few for just such a scenario and use them as loaners to get their customers up and running while they source the exact capacitor required for the application. They aren’t cheap. Retail is $90+.

    • @fanofoldfans9238
      @fanofoldfans9238 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrRhse85 I figured it's Universal but as caps are wired in series the voltage rating goes down. I'd use one just to do a test run but I wouldn't leave it installed.

    The heatwave over the last four days in central Pennsylvania has the larger HVAC dealerships referring jobs to subcontractors. Most of what I do involves Amana PTAC/PTHP units at motels and assisted living facilities. (my post-retirement 'egg money' job) Three '410-A' system owners asked for gas-n-go services to get them through the summer, however, those with R22 systems will often ask for a leak search at the time the scheduled appointment is made.
    The sad thing about the R22 system owners is that at least in this area, most are no younger than 70 y/o, and have to turn to churches and/or "charitable repair service ministries". One of those agencies installs either Gree or Blueridge mini-splits, draws the charge back into the condensing unit, cages the charge, then contacts any one of twelve local HVACR contractors to remove the R22 refrigerant, the oil charge (if possible without DC-ing the compressor), then affix the 'refrigerant/oil removed' EPA compliance label. Within about three days, the ministry sends a check for $22.00, along with a letter of thanks and a receipt for $78.00 notated as 'invoiced for $22.00, which was less than the average invoice of $100.00 for refrigerant services rendered'. Only God knows how many elderly and infirm they have saved from roasting to death in sweltering heat.

Extremely high superheat, high subcooling (those Tranes are usually 8-10 degrees SC), low vapor pressure (nowhere near target pressure even after adding ref)... Love hearing Steve recommend MERV 4 filters .... HVAC was NOT designed as an air filter ... the filter is just to keep the unit and ducts clean ... I buy a 6 pack MERV 4's and change every 2 months ... I also use a spray filter "charger" ... does not stop air flow but catches more dust .... supply and return pressures should be almost balanced (check with manometer/probe)

      I have a 1997 5 ton comfortmaker system that is original to the house. I have always used pretty much the highest MPR Filtrete filter I could get because I enjoy the added filtration. I have never had an issue and have never had to replace any parts. I think as long as you change them often and have a large enough return you should be fine. My return is 20x30x1.

    Chinesium Universal Capacitor was on that condenser about 5 years ago. They are twice the cost of a dual run cap but usually the technician has a nice life as he only needs to have one model of capacitors in his truck. Problem with that is he making his customers pay extra for his convenience. Always use MADE IN USA capacitors or it will fail within 3 to 5 years again.
    I like those leak proof caps on the refrigerant lines...what make or what are those called?

  • @crvinva

    Suction side has a king valve on this unit and no schrader valve/core to replace. Discharge side has a schrader valve/core. The leak was on the suction side. The video skipped that part, so it wasn't very clear.

    Why not just change the core? Just curious the core tools are very simple to use. I’ve changed many with them the only trick is just not screw the tool on real tight because it smashed the o ring and won’t let the core come out.

    • @martinbaines3719
      @martinbaines3719 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zippythechicken Not really a "variable rate" one, but it contains multiple capacitors in the same can - you can make the values you need by jumpering together the values you require - when he puts it on the condenser unit at 20:25 you can see the different "capacitor" values marked with different colours around the top and the panel where you write the configured values down. I expect they will be more expensive and probably wont last as long as a "fixed value" cap as they may have 8 or 10 different ones in them - but they allow you to carry one unit and pretty much fit it to multiple devices. They are often used temporarily by techs to see if replacing a cap will fix the problem at the time and they don't have one of the correct values on the van.
