I think Ted had mentioned in a past video that he has started proactively replacing contactors in every system he sells for that very reason. Trane started cheaping out on contactors and he was noticing a high failure rate with oem contactors. Anyway, good job man. Have a good day.

Ive had 2 generac’s over the last 12 years. No issues here. Had a 14 kw then upgraded to 22kw. Flawless operation. Only generator manufacturer that has huge amounts of parts available and wide variety of tech compared to limited Kohler or Cummings techs. Only way to go in my opinion. The past generator has problems but the newer models is far more reliable.
Trane I definitely better than york and lennox. I replaced a blower motor in a trane s9v2 (2 stage 90% furnace) and it was so much easier than I thought it would be John. The housing is plastic but the motor bracket holds the mounting legs in place. Only thing for you to adjust is where the band sits on the motor
I have the same trane xr17. About 8 months old and has been worked on a dozen times. Frost board in winter, now in summer the entire coil (condenser outside) had to be replaced due to bad leaks on it. While waiting weeks on the coil to come in, the installers had to come out every Friday and recharge the 410 or it would stop cooling.
C make sure EPA don't get on your pocket and fine you! If equipment doesn't hold for at least 5 years, product maker should be responsible for costs incurred by the dealers!
Generacs are ok. What happens is, these home owners get these things, Never have the maintenance done on them and then cry when the thing locks itself out on safety. They should really be serviced yearly but customers can do it themselves.
The Generac modules have about a 10 min delay once you pull power. Just found out this today when changing out and ERM. I keep turning breaker off and on resetting the Generac and restarting power shed. Love the 8n1 my favorite tool in my bag.
You can just take the flat head lug out behind it there's a Phillips head screw take that out then take the 5/16 screws out from the old contactor and they thread right into the Phillips head screw holes on the new contactor takes like maybe three minutes and much better contact due to enhanced surface area

Hi Trane, my home A/C is 2 Year old, and running normal until 12 PM. Didn't blowing air, the A/C still running and the fan working. I check all the central air blowing out for each room, "None" no air out. Some thing wrong ? What do I can do? Please help!!!!
Actually what you heard was backwards. The older Generacs had a lot of issues. They seem to have solved them. I have this exact same model and did a lot of research before I bought it. Someone made a comment about servicing them. I have mine monitored (cellular) by the company that installed it and it's on a service contract. Could I service it myself? Sure but I am in So. Fl. where we get hurricanes. $500 a year gives me peace of mind. I have been without power close to 2 weeks after Wilma. I also lived through Andrew. This can control my entire house as if I had power from the utility. I'm a night owl I was up at 2am getting ready for bed. Lights went off within 30 seconds they came back on the gen was running. I was only on for maybe 10 minutes before power was restored.
Amana is having lots of problems with their products as well; just cross your fingers! I truly believe American industry is in a steep decline farming manufacturing to other countries!
With that lose connection in your box from the generac interrupt that would have caused excessive amount of current on startup on that contactor which would have burnt points on the contractor
My Honeywell (Generac) 10kW LP has been running great for the last six months. I'll let you know if I have any problems. Just like with HVAC, proper maintenance and professional installation are very important. Install a MicroAir soft start kit and it will not be so hard on generator, compressor, capacitors, breakers, wiring connections, etc.

You knew the generac doesn’t come on for at least 1 hour😂😂😂 and the one thing about locking caps when it comes to Trane is that you can go through the side of the unit for true suction and discharge. So what’s the point. Should always shut off air handler breaker or from Thermostat to prevent a possible blown low voltage fuse or burn out secondary voltage transformer. Don’t want to short out low voltage side.
I’d take a bad contactor any day over my crappy 5 year old Armstrong unit (builder provided) already needing a new evaporator coil. Me and my 2 neighbors on both sides are waiting 3 weeks for a new coil.
As a technician who has served many trades. I can say with certainty most products made in the modern age are of the lowest quality ever. The corporate motto is "How cheap can we build it" in order to maximize profits. Even stuff made in the US isn't any better if at all. Is that all R&D departments do anymore, find ways to make it cheaper? They can save 10 cents by using a crappy contactor that will run at 99% capacity so it fails sooner than one that would be operating with headroom. But that won't save them 10 cents per unit. Too bad we don't see those savings.
Only one time in my career, I found a hard shell beetle caught in a contactor. Extracted it, coil had a good ohms reading, contacts looked good. Restarted and ran great.

Contactors go bad mostly due to fire ants which love those contact points and when they get squashed release their acid pitting the points which may get "welded" together and burn out the compressor! I've seen that quite a few times over the years!
I hate the chicken$h1t, OEM, 30amp contactors that come on Carrier/Bryant/Payne condensing units...especially the screw/square washer that is supposed to hold the wire down. The lug-style 40amp, 2-pole contactors are so much better and easier to land the hi-voltage on. Clipping the rings off for the 'lug style' terminals and re-using the crimp as a ferrule is the way to go - you get a much better bite and connection VS the bare-stranded end.
Part should be covered under trane warranty If it was registered properly. I've changed many of those contactors and capacitors. The XR line is the more lower end stuff.
Maybe they couldn't get an account; Carrier at one time was very selective and would allow you to buy one of their second tier brands like Day and Night, Bryant, etc.
I installed hundreds of Nest. I’m waiting for one to fail or cause problems. So far they’re holding well. In five years I had ONE fail. Installer error????

Yes, all things made in china is not quality products. Look, I come to live in this house 25 years ago; I have not changed yet that contactor. Because, Is Goodman brand air conditioning, they use other brand contactor.
I have a 3.5 ton AS unit 20 model as well, contactor went out on it as well, also these units trane and As have really cheap outside condenser fan motors made in China and these motors are rusting out very badly and trane will not replace them even though they are warranted for 10 years to all do not go with trane or AS units, I will never buy one of these units again high price units very cheap parts and poor customer support.

Yes he does. I've ran into a few contactors bad on Trane but not like Ted says they seem to go out quicker in the southern hotter temps.

Not all of the lug contactor have that screw
ALWAYS turn off low voltage before changing contactors. Less fuses/transformers blown that way.
Or turn thermostat to off. No 24volts to contactor. Or pull wires off and tape them up. A few ways to avoid shorting it out
Electrical tape on terminal ends. Save yourself a trip to the t-stat

Your Klein multi tool you were using for wiring might have a 5/16 nut driver in it with smaller OD for closer spaces. Just not magnetic.
I always carry the long Klein nut drivers for situations like that.

Yup, I put a soft start on my 2.5 ton Heat pump and the generator don’t even flinch when it kicks on.

Usually you find replaceable coils in large 3 pole contactors in the 75 to 100 Amp range! The coils are offered in 24 volts,, 220, 277.-

Rule of thumb all wire nuts you have the bell down that way any water would get into it they can't corrode the contact

Tell you what I am a Trane guy, I install Trane on almost the daily, but I hate their ugly greenish color on their units.
They used to paint them gray and it was OK; I guess they want to match the environment!

I use WAGO connectors instead of wire nuts
Those are worse then wire nuts. I’m a service electrician and replace waggos all the time. Hacks use waggos.
