I had a sleeping bag that my father gave me when I went away on my first camp at 8, it was army green and he even packed it into a surplus army kit bag. I went on many camps with it, and when the zipper broke dad cut it and Macgyvered it into it's next life, a quilt.
I used that quilt for years, I would build forts in the living room with it, use it as a rug to play games on with my friends, and of course cover myself with it on cold nights.
It lasted until I was 18 or 19, then it succumbed to one too many washes, was a sad, sad day, to think about it, that was with me for over 50% of my life at that time.
I put it back in the army bag, but I sadly lost it somewhere over the past 10 or so years, I miss it, and I miss my dad.
Thank you for reminding me of it, it is amazing how an object can become so personal, so cherished, I guess it is all in the memories of the times shared with it.
I will always remember that unique smell when you open it up, the smell of campfire, cooking, childhood...cherished times.
Now I know why dad wanted to keep it, I think he liked to remember those times too.

I think he was supposed to add the cream after the butter and flour cooked down a bit... (a typical roux is melted butter, then cooked flour a bit to remove raw taste, then slowly add cream until a nice cream sauce is formed.). Steve doesn't exactly "eyeball things", he just dumps in the whole container of whatever he bought... (Like how my ex-wife used to cook: "Eh... Throw it all in a pot and stir! The ingredients all end up in your stomach anyway! .. Why does it matter how they are added to the pan!??!" /sigh ) Sure, it's a camp meal, but that doesn't mean you HAVE to half-ass it!

When I was younger I bike-packed from Texas to Missouri and learned that trick from a homeless guy out of Dallas. Apparently it's not uncommon in the stealth camping/hobo world. I ended up trying it out in Oklahoma on the roof of a mattress store that was being remodeled. i used a military surplus backpack back then so I didn't have to hump any other gear up the ladder. I remember it was in the upper 40s fahrenheit and raining so I slept under an overhang at the front of the building behind the sign in my sleeping bag and bivy. I had an inflatable sleeping pad so it was reasonably comfortable, but what I remember most of all was how safe it felt being on high ground with almost no chance of anyone else joining me up there.

I have it paused right when the dutch oven comes out... My favorite part, the culinary nightmare begins!!! Wow.. Not bad. Kinda like the raft camping I was blown away then too... I told the wife, it's actually not that bad and she concurred as she could still eat while watching... Even the Gouda is a nice touch. Well done! (and I'm not a celebrity).

Steveeee. This episode is nostalgic as it gets. I still remember stumbling into your boondocking video and than the second one I followed up with was you in the - 30 in the yard in this tent with the stove. Happy for your new tent but man this one is memory lane. Congrats on the new tent though!

When Steve said "It certainly is cozy in here, ah this old tent has done me well" I felt that.

I understand your point about nostalgia in never using the tent again. I have a pair of leather and wool mitts I have had for 7 years, and fell the same way. Holes and singe marks in the corners, where many times protected me from flames of the fire, or chopping wood in -40.
They finally were retired when the left hand palm simply split open...leaving a three inch gap.
    Love your videos
