You got a sub for the Ren and Stimpy references. I also love that wooden tray. It's awesome that you compared it to the Rat 1 and 2 because I feel those are the quintessential EDC knives. I carry a Rat 2 D2 every day. If I happen to lose it, because the price point is so good for a Rat 2, it doesn't really matter. Your channel deserves a lot more subs.
I am in the process of doing some research, I have confirmed Kershaw are type II anodized, some Microtechs’s I have confirmed are Type III - there’s a world of difference in terms of longevity of the aluminum and wear.
@@KnivesFAST the natural clear which Microtech calls natural grey finishes are in fact per Microtech, Type III hard coat anodized (which is the treatment weapons receive like AR lowers and pistol frames that are aluminum). I believe (not confirmed) that the black Microtech’s are also Type III but the colorful ones like blue, red, etc are probably Type II - checking on that. The difference is substantial - those type II are more cosmetic, Type III hardens the aluminum beneath the surface and would yield drastically less wear over time. I am not sure for the average EDC this is meaningful or not but any Type III is more costly and a definite upgrade. 😊
Yeah I totally agree with what you're saying. Sometimes they just throw a knife out there because they know the mass market will buy the cheap knives. But in this case they really buckled down and made a great well made knife. Thanks
These aren't legal here in WA but I'm gonna get one anyway 😆 Don't own an OTF but this seems like the best one for the money. Thanks for the look at it KC!
Carry it and post it. Lead a protest in your state. I host Switchblade Month in March on my IG to protest my state's knife laws so for all of March, I only carry and use autos and I post them on FB/IG and I also educate people on all the falsehoods that have been spread about autos by our govt to scare people into banning them. Knife Rights is currently in battle with our govt and winning so far
Though I like the idea of an OTF, I never carry the ones I have. Neat to have but just don't enjoy carrying them as much as I thought I would. Thanks KC
I only have one CA legal OTF. I always wanted a Microtech but never got a chance to pick one up, i guess i’m just not that interested in OTF’s 😅🤷🏻♂️ Thanks KC!
That actually makes a lot of sense. I kind of feel the same way actually although I do like them they just haven't forced me to buy more of them. Thanks
You can own any auto you want here. Carrying anything over 1.9 inches is frowned upon but I carry full size autos every day and my local cops don't care. They often ask me where they can get one for themselves
I picked this one up from Blue Creek knives but I'm not sure they're in stock. They do appear to be in stock at Blade HQ which you can check out here shrsl.com/40tvr. thanks.
What is one of the qualities of a good knife, particularly of an OTF? That it opens. I bought the Kershaw Livewire from BladeOps in July 2023. In September 2023, it is non-functional. It does not open. Holding it upside down, the blade will extend enough to fully extend and click in place. Pushing the lever only partially retracts the knife. Called BladeOps 09/27. "Well, if you had called us sooner". Really? Well, if it had broken sooner (before 2 months) I might have called sooner. Of course, BladeOps told me to contact Kershaw. I called Kershaw warranty support. A knife with a lifetime warranty breaks within the first 70 days of ownership and I am expected to pay for shipping to them, and pay for return shipping back? I expressed my disappointment to Kershaw and the response was, "That's just the way it is." I will never buy another Kershaw knife, and I will never by another knife from BladeOps.
Well I'm really sorry to hear about that. Seems like you're a little bit caught in between for sure. Unfortunately it is not uncommon for companies to want you to pay for shipping both ways to remedy a warranty issue. I've had it happen a couple of times. But when I had was really well done but sorry to hear that it was at least one that was pretty rough. Thanks
@@gtiguy1992able I do not agree. I have tried several times what you suggested. It will work one time. After that, useless. The knife IS broke. It is either defective, or complete garbage. Either way, the company will not stand behind it. Period. What is the point of having a knife with a button to extend and retract the blade it blade neither fully extends nor retracts? The knife worked great for the first 2 months. Within 70 days it quit working. The reseller (BladeOps) refused to stand behind the product they sold, essentially saying "Not our problem, contact the manufacturer." Kershaw told me I had to pay for return shipping. Really? For a product that failed in less than 2 1/2 months? No. So much for a lifetime warranty. I still have the useless knife. I'll be more than happy to post a video of it so you can tell me again "it's not broke."

Very kind of you. Glad you like all of that. Yeah it's definitely a classic and you're exactly right about easily replaceable. Thanks!

I just bought a Piranha Rated R , Otf, which i love, but going to buy that Livewire too, Awesome Otf too
It's very well done for sure. Thanks.
Kershaw is funny. When they nail it it's awesome. I really like the autos in the launch series. Great bang for your buck. That looks great too.

Hey K. C I'm on vacation but needed a knife review fix have a Great day Everyone . 👊🏼
That's great. Very very nice. Glad you are watching it. Thanks
Does yours have a bit of a squeak when they deploy and retract?
I have to. One does and one does not. Just slight though. Thanks
@KnivesFAST Good to know, thank you. Guessing I gotta break mine in a bit. Got it yesterday so it's got some time
Do you know if Doug Ritter has been working on fighting the USPS and their auto knife shipping policy?
I do not know that. Next time I get him on I will ask. Thanks
Great video! I'm very interested in getting one. EDC!
Very nice. They're pretty interesting for sure. Well made and a good design. Thanks
Though I like the idea of an OTF, I never carry the ones I have. Neat to have but just don't enjoy carrying them as much as I thought I would. Thanks KC
Yeah that makes sense. They're definitely not at the top of my list for a daily carry as well but who knows maybe I'll get used to it. Thanks
Why not? Genuinely wondering.
That's awesome! Great review KC 👍
I dig it. Thanks.

Never been much of a OTF guy but would maybe like to try one thx KC
Yeah I hope you get a chance to try one at some point. They are very interesting mechanically and are capable in some cases like this one. Thanks
This one looks like an awesome knife. A bit pricier than I would wish.
It's really well done for sure. And I hear what you're saying. Thanks
The price will be going up. Trust me.
You don't think its strong enough to pierce because its otf?
Well I have to admit that I've not had enough experience trying that. So thus my apprehension. But it would probably be okay. Thanks!
I preordered one a few weeks ago, still waiting.
Oh gotcha. Hope it comes soon. Thanks
How and we’re did you get this from
I picked this one up from Blue Creek knives but I'm not sure they're in stock. They do appear to be in stock at Blade HQ which you can check out here shrsl.com/40tvr. thanks.
Nice blades 👍👍. Not really into the otf's. I've had some. But they never seem to stay .
Understood. To each their own. But I really like this one. Thanks
Love that knife. Mine's all black with Magnacut. Legal to own. Illegal to carry. I still EDC and use it because 🖕 CA
Sounds good. Ah. Challenges. Thanks.
Nice looking knife! Never owned a OTF !
You should try one if you ever get a chance. Thanks
Because I is pre order so how dose that work
Not sure what you mean. You can grab one here at BladeHQ shrsl.com/40tvr Thank you
Thanks but for me it says you have to to pre order and put a 5$ down payment
Blade HQ on back order. No date for shipping

Interesting. I'm sure they'll have more. Thanks
i think the Livewire is G10 on one side.
Gotcha. Good to know. Thanks
No it’s not. It’s full aluminum.
The clip just ruins it.
I have a Guardian Tactical that i love and hope to get a few more otf knifes.
Just never been a Kershaw fan.
To each their own. I like that it's a small unobtrusive clip. Thanks!

Needs more blade options. Not everyone is a fan of drop point blades in an OTF.
Good suggestion. Thanks
