    At last! Burnouts!! Man I cant wait to come over and chill. I'm gonna bring my suction cup mount and we're gonna get dual cam action! That was great cuz! I enjoyed watching you do the cooling mods. I always learn something from you.

      Haha. Thanks man. That truck sounds unique to me. I've never heard anything like it. I took a friend for a ride and he said it sounded like an fn race motor.

      I'm with ya Dave! I've watched the vid a few times so I can watch that burnout!

    Nice truck. Under drive pulleys are used to try and slow water pump rotation under high RPM's, if you are turning the engine hard at highway speeds due to a rear end gear or no overdrive etc a small restriction is the only answer. We would run a restrictor instead of tstat in the dirt track engines, and some of my drag engines. Water can flow too fast through a radiator under high rpm's and not get cooled enough.

    You probably have figured it out by now, but that hi-flo fits 78 and older LA intakes. The necks also do not interchange with the newer LA and mag since the bolt holes are further apart. You could use the stat anyway if you stuff rags on each side and rotary file the inside edge a little, then shop vac to get all the shavings. It wouldn't take much for it to drop in.

    I never knew about the bypass trick ...Hope that and the thermostat solved it ..Maybe an aftermarket high flow water pump ? I know that some of the claims on after market parts like the under drive pulley for the pump can be just their hype to sell parts I would have to see a real dyno test for them to get me to believe them

    You should try and get the number of pulleys on the front of the motor down. Every pulley takes power to turn even on the a/c delete and what now. I picked up .2's on my Ford lightning by running a shorter belt and bypassing pulleys.

    Need a fan shroud to cool it better

  • @63256325N

    Thanks for the video. Hey you know you could take your intake manifold off and bring it too Adam's and he could enlarge the thermostat hole so unit would fit.....maybe.

      Looks like it only need a few thou bored out. Easy job for sure, but that's a lot of work and driving time. :p
      Cheaper to buy a stat.

      +Duncan “DunMac” Mac Thats what I was thinking. If it were me and nobody was watching I'd just use a flapper wheel to open it up a bit.

    Alex, did the pickum-up have a Radiator shroud at one time?

    • @TheGasTap
      @TheGasTap  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Robert Perrigo The factory setup was a clutch fan and shroud. I put an electric fan on it.

    • @RobertPerrigoOkiechopper
      @RobertPerrigoOkiechopper 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Alex's Garage The shroud will help tho. I have delt with many, many heat related problems in the past, If you still have the shroud I would try it along with the electric fan. they do make a difference. Just a thought, BTW, the videos are really looking better on each release.

    • @Abom79
      @Abom79 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Robert Perrigo You got that right Robert, his videos keep getting better. 👍

    • @Tshade67
      @Tshade67 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks like the electric fan is only drawing through 1/2 of the surface area of the radiator. A shroud would allow it to pull air over all of core tubes. Just an idea.

    I've had pretty good results with a coolant additive called WaterWetter made by Redline for keeping engines cool.

    • @TheGasTap
      @TheGasTap  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has the water wetter in it but still gets a little hot on warm days.

      Stock 1986 Ram distributor from Napa.

    Did you have any issues with the alternator charging using a carb setup? I will be going aftermarket efi (sniper) and wondered if it will excite properly without factory pcm

    • @TheGasTap
      @TheGasTap  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used an aftermarket adjustable voltage regulator. It seems to work fine.

    It seems like the burnout was a hit. I wonder if the viewers want more tire smoke, I know I do.

    • @TheGasTap

    Alex can I put a 727 transmission in my 2001 dodge ram with a 5.2 I hate how the transmission shifts

    • @TheGasTap
      @TheGasTap  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +The Beige Wonder look at SMR transmission. They have a kit for a 727 swap. The trans you have will be great with a shift kit though. I had a durango 360 with the 46re and a shift kit. It was great. The 727 and 46re are the same except for 46re has overdrive.

    Is there a high flow 180? I would be cautious of the 165.

    • @TheGasTap
      @TheGasTap  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +phooesnax What problems have you had with the 160? I ran one for 5 years in my old drag truck.

    • @phooesnax
      @phooesnax 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a criticism in any way....by the way. My understanding is most modern are not designed to run that temp. The oil and fuel systems along with the cam are better at the other level.

    • @TheGasTap
      @TheGasTap  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. You're right if it was still fuel injected that engine would run like crap but since it's running a carburetor, it's all good.
