- JAPAN vs USA | Highlights | Men's OQT 2023. The Japan men's national volleyball team (Japanese: 男子バレーボール日本代表) represents Japan in international volleyball competitions and friendly matches, governed by Japan Volleyball Association.
Their nickname is "RYUJIN NIPPON (龍神 NIPPON)", meaning "Japanese Dragon God" or "Dragon God of Japan" in Japanese.[1]
Japan won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, followed by silver at Mexico 1968 and a gold at Munich 1972. The years after this have been less successful. Japan missed three successive Olympic Games before returning at Beijing 2008, where they failed to win a match. Japan then failed to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games and also missed Rio 2016 after finishing seventh at the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Tokyo.
They also failed to qualify for the 2014 FIVB World Championship the first edition they had missed in 54 years. They had previously won FIVB World Championship bronze medals in 1970 and 1974. Japan silver medalists at the 1969 and 1977 World Cup. Japan has been less successful in the World League era. The team has won the Asian Championships nine times and the Asian Games eight times.
The United States men's national volleyball team represents the country in international competitions and friendly matches. The team is governed by USA Volleyball. The team has won five Olympic medals, including three gold.
As the birthplace of volleyball, the United States founded the first association to regulate the sport. The United States Volleyball Association was formed in 1927, and was the founding member of FIVB in 1947.
However, by the time of volleyball's international growth in the 1940s, the U.S. was no longer a major power. They competed in the inaugural volleyball Olympic tournament in 1964.[2] The U.S. returned to the elite in the 1980s, winning the FIVB World Championship in 1986 in Paris, as well as four golds at the Pan American Games and eight at the NORCECA Championships.

It is good that the secondary team of Japan had their chance to play with a more experienced team. This is great practice for them. And they handled themselves pretty well. Not a surprise that when Ichikawa went in they started moving better and later Ran. Great match, USA and Japan never disappoint.
Yes when Ishikawa went it it's like they all got a confidence boost.

USA needs to fill that backup Opposite slot for Anderson 😅 great game anyway, even when the Americans were on the ropes pretty much the whole game, I just knew they would still win because of experience. I became a fan of Miyaura though. His demeanor is what I wish I had as a player - just cool and clinical and let his game do the talking 👏see you both in Paris!

They just lack a little bit of experience. Just a little more adjustment and he helped his senior. One team already But he was able to play against America like this. It's not normal. I like the whole Japan team, everyone, especially Liboro and the setter. Thai people really like the Japan team.

at 2:54 why was the setter able to jump? I thought since he was backrow the rules say he isn't allowed to. I know that I'm wrong since they counted it but can someone please explain it to me?
its a set, so the jump is legal, if the setter from backrow attacks by dumping the ball with a jump into the opponents court it is an illegal play
It's a set so it's fine. If you are back row, you need to jump from the backline to hit. In case of normal play, you have to be at the back line before the initial pass is played. If you can't spike, just run in normally and play the ball across the net.
