Thank you Kin Shriner for showing me I am not alone. My OCD is all about keeping everything clean and organized. I call myself a tidy tilly and use humor about myself to deal with it

Thank you, Maurice and Kin for talking about OCD. Each and every interview you conduct gives me something. I am going to show this interview to my 17 year old granddaughter who struggles with OCD. It’s interesting to know now many people struggle with mental health issues. Thank you for taking being an advocate. God Bless♥️

Thank you so much for these interviews. They don’t just help those suffering from these mental illnesses. I have none (that I know of!), but so many of the people near to me (parent, aunts, cousins, employer, kids I am close to) suffer from depression, bipolar, OCD, anxiety, etc. and I’ve found that the biggest stressor for me is that I have zero understanding of what they’re feeling. And they can’t relate to me, because they have no idea how to NOT think like they do. I end up shouldering so much of their stress to try and ease the burden on them, and as a result, there are times when I come to resent it. Because I feel like I am being punished for being mentally healthy! But hearing, in detail, the minute-by-minute struggle some people have, fighting with their own thoughts, renews my compassion, and determination to simply help the best I can.

Your show truly hit home. Never thought about the loss of my mom before 3 ,my dad's alcoholism, and his death when I was 24. Kin hit home when he said you live as a survivor. I ended up being the parent to my dad. He was a great guy when sober. When drinking the violence is something that still gives me ptsd. He tried strangling me in a stupor.
However he insisted on education. Graduated first ,summa cut laude. And succeeded in being awarded the bar scholarship.
My rough childhood gave me the guts to open the first female law office in town.
Unfortunately Lyme disease robbed me of my dream after 23 years loving my career.
What hit me is no matter how you counsel. The deep impenetrable loss is your constant companion sub consciously.
Like Kin said you just become a survivor . I think we can change but deep loss when we are in the imaginary phase of life leaves scars we cover in attempting to be normal.
Your book was excellent. Your wife is admirable. Your candor refreshing beyond measure.
    I thank you.

OCD can be so incredibly challenging to deal with. For me it was/is cleaning everything to obsess. But in therapy it connected that the majority of it occured/occurs because of rape/sexual assault in my past. I felt/feel like nothing in my life was/is ever clean enough. I was given tools to help me in those obsessive moments. Because of therapy I am not as obsessive about it as I was when I was younger but like Kin said, it really never goes completely away. You just have good days and bad days...a huge thank you to Kin for coming on the podcast again to speak out on a subject that still has a degree of stigma surrounding it. He explains it very well. Maurice, you and your podcast are such a comfort and blessing. Keep doing what you do!!

Oh thank you both for this interview! Recently I sought professional help for these same type of symptoms checking the stove , locking the door, Rechecking my work tasks AND the driving thoughts!!!!! My therapist thankfully helped me realize this was OCD behavior but she hadn’t heard of the driving / hurting someone thought. The fact that Kin spoke on it was just more confirmation that I’m not the only one.

Love that Kim has became so educated and is spreading knowledge. Driving around the block to check in the cat would be called a compulsion. Similar to checking ect. We can even have mental compulsions. OCD can be tricky and come in many forms. I have had it over 20 years but meds and just in the last year I found an OCD specialist for therapy has improved my life so much. I'll never be cured but I have been able to find some relief.

I totally get the OCD thought process. And being anxious and nervous and a worrier. Before I started school as a kid, I was already biting my nails down to the quick. I can't be still, either. It is horrible. But one thing I was thinking while listening and laughing with you: Everything has two sides. When it comes to mental health, we are always looking to, basically, fix it. But one thing I haven't ever tried to do is to see if this burden comes with a gift of any kind. I'm not talking about seeing lottery numbers but more of a...can this be utilized for anything good? Even if it is a little thing. I don't know. I need to think on it. Maurice and friends...you are acting on behalf of God. Soldier on. Thank you!

Thankyou Kin Shriner and Maurice! You have made so much sense for me but here I sit saying but what if you wondering about whether you shut the burner on stove off or not is legit? So now you see thats where I go wrong because the consequences of being wrong could be drastic. So I go back and check. I have won that battle a few times and still do for the most. I never put a name to it though because I'm not big on putting names on things I have seen some people get a name put to a condition and after that, its seems like a legit
excuse and they get much worse

My teenage son has OCD and things have to be completed to his satisfaction or he cannot move on. When he was younger we never told him anything about to happen until just before because he would plan out how every detail would go and would obsess over it. It is traumatizing for those of us around it, I cannot begin to imagine how it must be inside their head.

So the battlefield is in the mind. Every person has to learn how to control the thought that go through your mind. If you don't you can develop strongholds of thoughts that you don't want and now you have to to tear down the strongholds of those thoughts that are tearing you down. When someone becomes a born again Christian they too have to battle the thoughts that were okay when you didn't know the Lord. Now you have the mind of Christ and flesh doesn't want you to follow Jesus so you'll get those thoughts of things you used to do or say so you have to stay with the battle and control the thoughts that go through your mind. God bless you and your family!

I love Scott Baldwin. OCD affects one of my best friends and I watch her go through her stuff. Its a counting thing, or it is a i need to this first.. or I need to touch this first. At times I am confused at her thinking but then I get it I take the time to try and help her and understand. There are times I have to walk her through her stuff. It is a hard thing.

I love Gelsons in Santa Barbara on Upper State St. They carry pies from The Solvang Pie Company which are the best. Anyway..lol....because of my OCD brain I cant skim news article. I have to read and say every word in my head and if I dont panic and anxiety sets in. I know Im capable of skimming because I can do it on occasion and then I feel like I kicked OCD's ass...lol..but majority of the time when I dont go back and read the last word in the paragraph my anxiety is a mess. Its like my mind won't let me move on unless I read it. Its so frustrating. So when when Kin talks about going around the block thats how it is when Im reading I have to go "around the block" to functuon normally. I love this podcast so much. I have so many "Oh, its not just me" moments. It makes me very emotional watching these.

Ocd is a symptom that puts thoughts in your head that aren't normal. You feel like you have to do certain things or it makes you go crazy. I always felt if I didn't check on things something bad would happen. I had to do rituals or felt something bad would happen. I dont know how to not take meds. Being on meds makes me able to live with it. I still have things I do at times to calm me but it doesn't control my mind as bad as it did. I have anxiety too but that's cause I worry about things. But meds make my life copable.... I can get to talking fast too like Kin if I get excited about something. Lolol. He doesn't sound like he takes meds. Just deals with it. If it works for him that's good but we all are different and for most of us we need the therapy/meds. I don't think people should say therapy or meds is not gonna help you. I feel he comes across like that. Like just deal with it and you can control it. That doesn't work for everyone. You should talk to different people about OCD and anxiety. We all have different ways we deal with it. I think you know that though. Not trying to be rude or anything I just felt like I had to comment because I didn't agree with the part where Kin said you push the thought out of your head and don't listen to it. It's not always that easy for everyone to do that.

I have OCD and there is nothing you can do about it. It drives people around me crazy and I always tell my family especially, you can get away from me but I can't get away from me ever. It is so hard to be this way.
