    If you have installed mods in Skyrim make sure you delete them first in-game before you uninstall Skyrim. Steam/Bethesda will remember which mods you have installed in-game. Very annoying cause you could go through this clean install tutorial and ran into the problem I had. You can manually delete everything out of folder and it won't matter. Steam/Bethesda will remember which mods you install in-game via mods menu in the Skyrim game. Spent a lot of time doing this and it is very annoying.

      U dont need to delete mods from bethesdha, just disable them, when u clean install and go back to skyrim login menu again and go to mods ur downloaded mods will still be there but not active, if u want clean install, disable all mods first from bethesda, nmm, vortex, etc, once all disable check ur plugins, if its clear then its time to delete ur data folder in steam/steamapps/common/skyrim special edition/data. But better if u just delete the whole sse with the data folder with it, since some mods messed up ur skyrim files as well. Then just install back from steam again, whole new sse with no mods, but u dont nees to download mods again since u already have them. Just activate and use loot to take care of the load order. Or if u feels like u can make the load order urself its even better.

    I have like 2200hrs in Skyrim and I never really bothered with the Remaster but I have the itch to just mod it because tinkering with the Game is almost more fun than actually playing. Pretty much every time I play I see something that is not 100% perfect and then I go on to fixing it. I started to edit most Mods myself and tweak them to my liking.

  • @Ironbuket
    @Ironbuket 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    3:11 Probably someone else in the comments mentioned this already, but you cant install Steam games on to the same drive Windows is on outside of program files. The Steam client installs to program files and you cant have two steam game locations on a single drive. If you only have a single drive or your OS drive is your only SSD, then the best solution is to use drive management to shrink the OS partition and create a new second partition on the SSD. Then install steam games to the new partition.
    Another option, if you have 2 drives and windows is the only SSD, is to uninstall steam from C and reinstall it on the slower second drive. Then install the games to C in a folder NOT inside any of the windows created folders
    NB: Moving programs off of the C drive could cause issues. e.g. secondary drives may be set to sleep if inactive and so can cause long pauses when you try to access them

    • @Ironbuket
      @Ironbuket 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aielias89 Yep, but most people will install steam to the default location and so to follow instructions telling them to not install steam games in the programs files directory but to keep it on C they will need to backup all their games, uninstall steam, reinstall steam outside of program files, put back the game data and then redownload the games. Unless you know a quicker way?
      My C drive is an NVME. I have steam client installed in program files and I have a second partition where the steam games are installed to.

    Too everyone having problems with only having your one drive availaible. Go into Disk Management, Rightclick on your c: drive and click shrink you can then create a virtual secondary drive by basically cutting off extra space from your main one. This is a great way to make backups. I just used this method to take 75gb off of my C: drive just for skyrim.

    Just coming back to modding after a 4(?) year break (back when SE was young, SKSE64 was barely functional and oldrim was still preferred by a lot of modders). Man, I really miss the soothing tones of Gopher's MO1 guides. This is a tutorial video by a guy who sounds like he's sick of explaining the stuff he's teaching. There was a point where I literally caught myself expecting him to add "you piece of shit" to the end of a sentence. "Why did I think he was gonna say that?", I asked myself, until I realized that it would be consistent with his tone through the whole video.

    • @montagemanman1389
      @montagemanman1389 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The guy probably spent hours making this vid and deciding what way he would explain a very helpful tip to new comers. He’s absolutely right. Windows overprotects software in program files which then cause issues with mods like papyrus. When downloading that file it threatened windows security. You have to spend time figuring how to work around that for many mod tools and downloads from various sites considered untrustworthy by windows but are safe to use. He’s saving ppl dealing with that by installing it to a more external less protected memory bank. The tone is one of “oh! please don’t do this.. just save yourselves the hassle peeps.” Great video. It will also drop your load times considerably in game loading and when installing and deploying mods.

    • @craignichols9552
      @craignichols9552 5 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      Probably not relevant now since it was 4 months ago, but all you do to get round this problem is make sure ALL steam applications are closed (including task manager stuff like bootStrapper) and simply go into your programs folder and "cut" the steam folder and paste it in your root directory (The directory that has the ACTUAL program Files, program Files(x86) folders etc.) and the "Steam" folder should appear in this root directory. That removes it from program files and changes the location of steam. Since it's now been moved, all the exe's won't respond on your computer, make sure to click into Steam folder; find and run Steam.exe simply just pin it to your task bar for future reference and run it from task bar when ever you load steam up and you're done. Skyrim is now moved away from program files, happy modding.

      For me I moved "steam" to C drive "games folder". Do this by finding your steam folder in program files and delete everything EXCEPT 1- steamapps file folder 2- user data file folder 3- steam application. Now highlight the 3 remaining folders and right click and choose cut. Then highlight either your C drive or C drive games file folder and right click and choose paste. Now start steam and it will automatically add the other junk back in when it see's you moved it.
      I haven't had too many problems with load times, I have 1000gb with 300 available. When I am finished modding I usually end up with about 100gb still free, my load times are about 2-3 mins to start the game and 20-30 seconds to respawn or exit/enter a building. I use a gtx 1060 6gb, 4k monitor, 3840x2160 res, ram16gb, AMD Ryzen3 1200 quadcore. So it's about 1 or 2 notches below what he is using and graphics hover between medium and high settings. I also stay away from ENB's and grass mods.....and have only a few small 4k mods installed. I think it looks and preforms about 65% of what this video is showing you.

I just started using mods in the game and before I knew it, my mod list really had no scheme into how I was planning to play the game and I had alot of mods I'd might consider to be bloatware as I was running or even turning off duplicate operations. I would say the best way to enjoy a load out is to make an organized list of mods that are best at what they do. And pick n choose very specifically based on how you are planning to play during that mod list

    You could also FRESH install steam and then change games / downloads directory from the steam's options. You will have all your newly downloaded games in that newly designated folder.
    Please, also note, that you would have to move / link (MKLINK command) your download folder (inside steam's) to that location in order for steam to "see" those.

    • @kenbismarck4999
      @kenbismarck4999 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ALSO: you can do same trick with your saves folder. Say you want your game to save your games in drive E: instead of C: - then you do it like so:
      MKLINK /D E:\Your_New_Skyrim_saves_dir "C:\Users\your_user\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\Saves"
      Just remember:
      1. Move your skyrim saves directory to a new destination
      2. be sure to delete the default location (C:\....Skyrim Special Edition\Saves)
      3. Use quotes shown above. Windows Explorer doesn't react well to blank spaces in directories' names :-)
      4. You probably have to run this command with system administrator privileges.
      5. Enjoy.
      Now, if you happen to remove your skyrim's dir on your drive C: they are still safe on that other drive :-)

    One thing that was missing in this video. It is important to not give a try on using an SD card as an installation root for your Steam games. The loading for DATA's will be slower and crappy and you don't want this to happen. It is well recommended to use an INTERNAL HDD or SSD instead of external. In conclusion, it is best to use a DESKTOP gaming pc instead of a Laptop unless you truly have a powerful one with lots of space in your SSD root.

      If you're low on space on the drive you have Steam installed, you can move the Steam folder to a different location. Here's an example of how to move the Steam installation between two hard drives:
      -Log out and exit Steam
      -Navigate to the folder where Steam is installed (by default: C:\Program Files\Steam\)
      -Delete all of the files and folders except the SteamApps folder and Steam.exe
      -Cut and paste your Steam folder to the new location, for example: D:\Games\Steam\
      -Launch Steam
      -Steam will briefly update and then you will be ready to play
      -All future game content will be downloaded to the new folder D:\Games\Steam\Steamapps\

So if you have a tb ssd you can set it to a 750 gb drive and a 250 gb drive. People often just have their operating system on one drive and everything else on another incase of a virus or something of the sort.

I agree with this, but does it have to be a separate physical SSD or is it enough to have a second partition on the same SSD with C: drive? The latter is probably enough if you're just worried about permission issues, but maybe you have some bottleneck in mind that will slow down the game because the operating system is on the same physical disk as the game?

    what are the benefits of Mod Organiser compared to Nexus & Vortex ? (aware vortex is update to nexus).
    I am currently about to start Fallout 4 after breaking it last time around due to installing mods or doing something in game were i lost all audio and was not able to get back the sound, i have heard of MO for a while now but was a bit scared to use it as i was under the impression that it was more for the developer or mod maker, don't ask why i thought that i just did, i have learnt my modding skills from the TH-camr Gopher who to be fair is very meticulous and had been a great help to us Newby Modders,

    • @aielias89
      @aielias89 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, welcome! Alright so, one benefit of MO2 is that you won't have to reinstall your entire game if you mess up something. Just select a new profile and whalla. Another HUGE benefit is that you can manually sort your INSTALLATION order without uninstalling and reinstalling mods in a particular order (just drag and drop). Real time saver that. It also has a bunch of awesome features for filtering when your modlist is overflowing and overall it was designed to work specifically with Creation Engine games unlike Vortex/NMM which are desgined to be universal. Overall, more power and less frustration in the long run.

    Hi Ai Clave; I'm sorry I don't speak a good English but I try to explain my dubts.
    First of all thanks for your guides they have been very usefull for me ... but I have a question to avoid any wrong installation of SSE ...
    Let me begin
    1) Youi said the "most important thing" is to don't use Programms files to install Steam and/or SSE ...; this is reasonable but unfortunately I have have just one TB SSD in my NotebookGaming PC ... so first question is which is the best solution in your opinion ?
    A) To Buy a "separate SSD" with 1TB (or less) too with a speed over 1000Mb/s ... (3.1 new USB solution)
    B) Create different folders for 1)Steam, 2)SSE installation (i.e. SteamSSE) and for 3)MO2 (i.e. SteamMO2mods) ? ...
    C) Install SSE under Steam (just to let you better understand --> leaving Steam the default installation) ...
    In my opinion this "first" step is very important because in your video you said that installing SKSE64 you have to copy the files & folders under C:\Steam\Steamapps\Common etcetera ... which is different from what you are saying in your "Clean Installation Guide video" ...
    So I'm sorry but I'm just a little bit confuse; so which is the "best solution" to apply for a first time installation in a new PC ?
    Many thanks in advacnce for your replies ...
    Ciao
    Stefano (Milan)

    How do I do a clean install of MO2??? I screwed something up somewhere after the tutorials ran out and I need to start over-- but, I never get the option of selecting "instance" or "portable," anymore-- not since my first attempt. More disastrously, I'm stuck with programs that are no longer present on my hard drive listed on the MO2 drop-down menu. If I try to install them, I can; but, they don't appear as installed mods on the lists, which is, I presume, a sign that things are not installed correctly.
    I'd have a shot, at least, at getting this damned program to work if I could only get a clean start at installing things; but, despite my best efforts, I can get nowhere with this after days of aggravatingly little (no) progress. I've learned many things that _don't_ work; I'm out of new ideas for anything more promising. This is strongly recommended as the mod organizer to use, now, after about 15 years of my using FOMOD and NMM. I am very lost when it comes to installing things like FNIS on MO2, even trying to follow a tutorial, I guess; but, I expected trial-and-error to be an option for learning this. Apparently, since I didn't 100% succeed on my first attempt, I'm permanently shut out of this goddamned program. I'm no stranger to clean installs, but, this seems to store information in some unnamed dynamic link library or God-only-knows what, and I haven't a clue as to what to do other than give up until I get some help. All I can do, now, is repeat things that already haven't worked, and I've tired of that insanity.

It is good to see this, as alot of what is out there is all over the place if you ask 5 people what the best setup is you will get 40 different answers that have nothing to do with the Question in the first place. I myself am new to modding skyrim, However The game is better with mods then without makes a 10 year old game feel new and fresh. With that said Will you be using the tools associated with skyrim ie Loot,ssse wyre bash ans such i dont need a hand hold but a basic this is what these tools are used for and this is how you do it Guide would be amazing Wyre, sseedit and some of the tools are not easy to use even reading through them its made more for the content creator rather then just the modded game user if that makes sence but the tools are made to optimize installs like cleaning folders or making simple bash edits, the main issue ive run into as of today after 6+ fresh installs is now overwrites i still do not understand why stuff from example lovelabs would interfere or have anthing to do with say a visual mod like flora. with all that ive spent the better part of the last 5 day researching and trying to learn the new tools and i really hope this is my final stop. casu thus far it is the best yet. This is not rocket science but very time consuming the rabbit holes you can dig omg it is amazing.

    I'm really confused about this. So we are making a duplicate and testing on that to then add to the main save

    Also I am doing this for Fallout 4 I know most steps are basically the same and have most of this down. I am just doing it to familiarize myself with the whole process so I don't have to refer back to the videos every time. Would a full on Fallout4 series of the same thing be stupid to ask for?

    MO2 default working directory is User/AppData. I always symlink to a non OS hdd, preferably to the same disk as the game is installed. To have MO2 loading mods from the disk containing Windows is a big downside IMO.

    yanno if you make these videas with ALL of your screen in the picture so we can actually see where these file directories go, youll cut the number of questions given to you by half, just adding the URL at the top of the screen would tremendously help newbie modders who havent got a clue what your saying or doing either because your doing it too quickly to actually be traced or your talking about files that youve accidently changed the name of, for example, some people might be modding in a seperate folder or with multiple game folders, if we can see exactly which file your in then just saying 'game file' wouldnt sound so confusing
