Baine was like us ... he thought the expansion was so dumb, he was AFK for most of it. Good for him. Got a nice, relaxed holiday away from his stressful job, without bothering with any of the BS in Shadowlands.

The problem with blizzards stories, especially since WoD, is that they almost immediatly fall apart once you start to think about it/ask questions. I understand that they want to tell a cool story first but is it cool if no one understands it and if it makes no sense inside of its own universe?
Cool story? WoD was literally them using time travel as an excuse to simple recycle WC2 lore.

Ngl, anyone with a brain shouldve known bad things were coming the moment it was revealed that there will be time travel in WoD. Time travel is the epitome of "Im a shitty writer and I dont know what to do, so Imma bring back characters made by better writers than me".

No one wants to admit that it's been just steadily getting worse this entire time. Even the haters would feel like fools for sticking around at this point. But it's the truth. We're all fools now.
It was objectively the worst expansion in the entirety of World of Warcraft's existence. I literally did NOT play the expansion.

A lot of their decisions I could see being done by someone stupid, but the 1 decision that blows my mind to this day is turning the HELM OF DOMINATION into a little yellow dungeon-drop-lookin-ass helmet. Like, the expansion had a lot of bad things to it, that's just the one thing that strikes me as so incredibly awful of a tiny decision.

Sylvanus becoming the Lich King is 100% amazing in hindsight. Little Lion and the entire Azeroth crew could have gone on a epic campaign to break into the maw and disable the Helm of Domination's power from the inside, while an unstoppable Sylvanus rampages the Azeroth countryside in a frothing madness.
Would had been a perfect ending if her story ended the same as Arthas. Becoming what she despised the most.

Denathrius likely serves the Void Lords. The Dreadlords book, which is randomly left in Revendreth, was probably purposely made and left to make the Azerothians more determined to overthrow Zovaal. As we know, most of the Nathrezim use Void Magic.
Many of the Dreadlords also became Demons by twisting themselves in Nether energies...your point?
They literally talk about them "serving" the Void Lords as part of their little Cosmic scheme to aid in Zovaals master plan. What are you talking about?

WoW lore after the Lich King suffers from the villain of the week syndrome, they need someone to make sense of this mess and plan out a story that evolve for three expansions or so.

The best way for sylvanas' arc is to have tyrande to sneak into the maw, she kills her in secret. Player character get a cool cinematic from her owl, and no one ever speaks of it ever again ever.
I don't know if Blizzard made some changes to the people in charge of the story but the Shadowlands story had some of the lowest quality story WoW has seen.

Elune is the god of darkness, and the moon happens to come out at night, so easier to channel her power? She’s secretly evil, and the nigh eleven are the next baddies. Tyranda will be the next sylvanas, this was a test to see if tyrande can be a bad ass

Jaina and Tyrande are hot heads, Greymane hid behind walls during a war causing the worgen.....and Turylan is not a bitch, he was one of the ones who helped close the dark portal with Khadger.
Pre-Legion Turalyon was established to be quite the badass, then come Legion we see him simping over some rapey light Naaru and getting pissed because Illidan ain't into that shit. Oh yeah he also let's his wife get cucked repeatedly by said rapey Naaru that he worships, she only went free because their ship got shot down IIRC or some shit like that. At least Alleria does shit and was even willing to put down Sylvanas to spare us the horrors of what would be Shadowlands.
Wouldn't it be cool if we actually don't see Anduin until the battle of Light & Void like that vision told us :D

The Titans are indeed robots. They were made in Zereth Ordos just like the Eternals were made in Zereth Mortis. And their creations are all robots as well. The Old Gods seem to be the only ones who can actually make life.

About the leader of the alliance, it's more like

Turalion wasn't here, he doesn't know shit about the alliance AT ALL. a leader isn't supposed to be an immortal monster that can beat the crap of everyone, a leader lead, and for this, he need to know how EVERYTHING work. I can't see someone else than the leader of the worgen or the fucking dwarf leader, both the people right next to the human lord that actually helped him 24h7, to lead the alliance.
Velen probably still need a bit more time to calm down after legion, and wasn't really always with the king, the elfs are the elfs, always by themselves, the gnomes are piece of shit, and the rest wasn't here 95% of the alliance history. How the hell would they help when they don't know a third of what's important for the alliance.
The fact they can’t release multiple raids in a launch with tiered difficulty to get the next one is a huge L. Having to replay the same endgame for months is boring…..
Vol'Jin might come back as the new Loa of Kings or something too, right?

I really agree with you about Turalyon and being the leader of the alliance now. Illidan pretty much poned him in legion, and that was when he was incredibly weakened by the one Naaru and was so tired and drained he practically had one hand tied behind his back and stopped at that giant sword from cutting him down with the other hand. I still think we need to bring Illidan back in dragonflight. After all he was the Superior Stormrage brother

makes more sense that turalyon is faction leader. Turalyon is exarch of the army of the light which is very powerful, genn in comparrison lost his kingdom.

Not counting the books, Malfurion is a joke of a character and has done fuck all. Even in Legion he did practically nothing but get himself kidnapped and get Ysera killed.

The people who made it arent warcraft fans, they just milked the franchise for years and you just coped. Go back to original warcraft books and warcraft 3 and see for yourself.
One thing I appreciated with final fantasy is that they showed us Emet-Selch and his motivations the entire length of the expansion building up to his fight.

Yeah the jailer and the Eternal ones ares likes robot, but the titans are not made in flesh either. The titanforgeds and guardians are made in stone and blizzard said the titans took example of the first ones when they created things.

All I can say is that Evokers were a dumb addition in the sense of the following:
Playable Wardens should have been a thing, a mixed Melee + Ranged (similar to Survival Hunter in some aspects) Elf, during the Timeskip they could easily have been trained for lore purposes, and Chromie can send people back to the past so that fixes a lot of plot holes for say Blood Elf Wardens.
Wardens could have been a Mail Class, Agility and Intellect focused specializations (pure DPS), perhaps a Warden that wields Elune's magic with a 2H (spear / staff) Intellect Focus, heavy reliance on mobility and up close abilities while also a strong focus on ranged (short ranged, similar to Evoker), and then another spec of Warden that does 2 x 1H (i.e. Glaives, Archetypal Warden), more combo focused, a mix of something like Mage, Rogue, Demon Hunter, and Monk, Agility Based. Can make all of their attacks including autos ranged for a bit, using Elune's magic.
Whereas Evokers just kinda come out of left field with a major ???.
I think Elune really is the moon goddess. Other planets exists with moons, and we know the Night Elves on Azeroth aren't the only ones who worship Elune, many of the races on Azeroth too also worship Elune and not just the Night Elves. Tauren worship her too under a different name, but it's still the same goddess. We see her physically represented as the moon, like in the Yesera death Cinematic. I think she's just that, a moon goddess, still powerful obviously, any god would be.
Forgive me if I'm wrong I haven't been keeping up on lore since BFA, this is just from what I remeber.
Imagine in the Light vs Darkness expansion, Anduin comes back as an goth edgy Shadow Priest (Or some edgy Shadow Paladin, if they want to make a new class for some bizarre reason)
This happens every time.
1. New expansion releases
2. Everyone is overjoyed, it's the best expansion ever
3. One week in, players who rushed to endgame start complaining
4. Two weeks in, players who are bored by endgame quest content start complaining
5. Three weeks in, raiders and M+ community starts complaining
6. Four weeks in, it's the worst expansion ever, Blizzard strayed from their roots, and the new systems must be at fault
You know, it's almost as though expecting a video game to perpetually supply you with feelings of belonging and purpose is a fools errand, and you might want to make friends and have regular appointments outside of WoW. Maybe hang out with the family or something. Get some exercise and swim or cycle around a bit. But no, it must be Blizzards fault that brains get accustomed to video games and their associated feelings.
Oh well, maybe the next expansion will magically expunge your basic social needs! And you won't have to do anything about improving your life yourself at all. Just leave it to a publicly traded company in California to take care of you.
Next thing ya know they'll patch in Bob the Builder as the creator of Azeroth.
Next pre-patch should have an event where you go back to shadowlands and punch pelagos until he cries again

It's crazy to think that it ended up with the Star Wars effect where the story is just criss-crossing wires and not making a whole lot of intentional sense anymore. It's looking like there's some generational gap going on where old leaders take off, new leaders don't capture the same vision and it translates through negatively to the intended audience. A story that has infinite instances of "oops, jk" going on or overly excessive plot twists or story redirection isn't a story anymore. It's bad fan service. You'd need the scale of Tolkien to capture this level of excessive storytelling with it being drawn out enough to be believable.
DC comics is STILL trying to get the cosmic stuff right. 4 and just recently 5 full universe reboots (crisis events) later.
Bolvar straight up said he wanted NO ONE to know he was the Lich King... and then the mages put a statue up in Dalaran where you could see the whole thing.

This a potential ending that I think would have been better: After the defeat of the Jailer, the Shadowlands is thrown into chaos and on brink of collapse(destruction). Without the Arbiter and Jailor, the balance of the realm is gone and the remaining Archons sacrifice themselves to save the realm, and in this way, the remains of their anima get together with the body of the Arbiter and we also get a new arbiter, and a united Shadowlands(under this new being control)

Every WoW expansion from Cata onwards had a great start and excellent questing experience . The alliance city in BfA is probably the best city Bliz's ever done. SL's problem was AFTER the 2 month launch period. Maybe it was because of the rona or whatever, but it had pretty weak support

I think when the Winter Queen said that Elune was her sister, I think she meant more of a counterpart. She's the "Winter Queen" of life. He does the same job that the Winter Queen does, but for the Life force rather than Death.

@@ekscalybur No Pantheon member is "blood" related. Not in the way we mortals are. They are however all connected fundamentally in different ways.
Elune and the WQ, for example, are "sisters" in that they are counterparts of their unique roles in the cycles of both life and death. However, the WQ still considers the other Eternal Ones as "siblings" or as dear friends. Much like how the Titans consider themselves as "family", despite not being "blood" related.
@@ekscalybur Also why do people call the Pantheons robots? Outside of the vessel stuff, the Pantheon Members aren't really "robots", really. Maybe the Prototypes/Vessels can be considered that, but I'd compare them more to puppets really. Once the vessels are imbued with a Soul however, that's when we get to see the bodies made whole.
And it appears as tho different Pantheons are made in different ways anyways, depending on their roles and gifts in the Cosmos, so who knows...

Someone didn't watch the platinum wow videos about Genn. He's probably one of the *least* qualified to be running the Alliance, especially after his unprovoked attack back in Stormheim while we were supposed to be fighting off demons.
As much as I don't wanna defend the Shadowlands story, Asmongold misunderstands A LOT of it. For example
He said Tyrande having to let go of her rage at the death of her home and her people doesn't make sense, since its reasonable for her to be angry. It IS reasonable for her to be angry, but her being angry wasn't the point. The point was that she was being consumed by that hatred and anger and loosing sight of justice and fighting for vengeance. Ya know what happens when you loose yourself to rage when your entire race gets killed by an undead person and go on a revenge crusade? You turn into Sylvanas, no one wants to turn into Sylvanas
Or the whole thing with Raszageth. Yes Neltharion sealed her away but he and all the other aspects where acting under the leadership of Alexstrasza. The leader takes the fall for the whole team. Neltharion teleported Raszageth into a cell on the Dragon Isles, Void Magic has shown numerous times to be capable of teleporting people, that's nothing new. No one came to help Neltharion cuz no one knew that Raszageth was attacking, it was in a secret location that the other aspects didn't know about, that's the whole point of the forbidden reach.
Jaina the Deserter during the Legion invasion , nah I would not make her the Leader of the Aliance. The Horde as always lead the way, a council in peace time, with a war chief elected in time of war.
Blizzard shouldn't have done the whole alternate universe idea...and NEVER should have touched the idea of the afterlife. They cheapened the sacrifices of every heroic event by doing so.
I think too many people focus too much on the robo jailer part. Personally, I think him turning back to such a form had more to do with him dying in Zereth Mortis, instead of dying in the shadowlands or material plane. Considering what we saw happen to Denathrius for example, I don't think the eternal ones would appear as robots if we killed them outside of the Zereth. I'd say it's quite likely based on the templates we saw in Zereth Mortis that if anything from the material planes died there, that they would loose their essence and turn into templates due to the nature of the place.
Still was a dumb thing to do depiction wise though. And imo we should have never set foot into a place like that. It took away too much of the mystiques of the shadowlands and well warcraft universe as a whole since we know there's a Zereth for each major cosmic force.
Sylvanas wouldn't have been able to burn down Teldrassil with Illidan in charge ... because he'd have burned it down himself long ago due to trying some crazy magical spell or something.
Legion tried to pull a Kerrigan on him but as per older lore (back when the lore was actually good, so no, go fuck your new lore) Illidan had always been a loose canon.
Shadowland is not a bad XPAC in fact the lore is good , yeah there are some dark point but the story of sylvanas is not one of them ( THe jailer is )
They really did fuck up both Sylvannas lore as well as Arthas lore, its so annoying. It could have been done well, but it wasn't.
The whole reason why they made Bolvar apologize is because it's become a meme in 2010 about "omg dad wasn't there for a month of my life, BAD PARENT, LOL"

i think the problem people have with the idea of doing something similar lore wise like The Burning crusade into legion etc etc is that anymore people dont have the kind of time or patience for a game to do things like that, thats why games like MW2 and fortnite and apex can live so healthily off lil amounts of content because people want something immediate and effortless they dont wanna commit time and energy into things not more than they really have to anyway. thats how it feels anymore. and i feel like thats why shadowlands (especially after the battle for azeroth expansion never ending) they tried to pick up the pace and rush things over in order to maintain player base interest in the game. at the begining battle for azeroth did well and everyone was cool with it but the more it dragged on the more people became upset with blizzard.
Sylvannas was such an awesome character. . . Then BFA happened.

Undead should have attacked the horde way earlier like that quest from thunderbluff in vanilla that only non-undeads could do in sm.
I was more confused by Deathwing from the dragonflight cinematic because he's in a human form. Ok the timelines are screwed in WoW but how did he know what a human was before humans had evolved from the Vrykul ? old god curse hits and we get dwarfs and humans etc etc but the dragons were around way before that. So ..... how ?
The cutscene where Nozdormu shows the Dracthyr what happened, and shows Neltharion/Deathwing in human form. It gets even better when you have the knowledge that the Dracthyr have been in stasis for 20,000 years and that the earliest humans would've been some 15,000 years ago.
I dont even take the lore after Legion as cannon anymore. Not that i took cataclysm to legion seriously either,but atleast it was kinda entertaining.
People have forgotten the true Warcraft roots.
I would have made the jailor into an fucking grandpa who is weak af and gets betrayed/killed by sylvanas after the sanctum of domination raid. With Sylvannas being the main villain of SL it would have been more fitting as we know her longer and also better than Zovaal. And she ending as the new jailor after we beated her up.

Shadowlands biggest problem was that it cheapened the two major antagonist factions in the game, the burning legion and the scourge.
Nothing after Legion is canon. End of story. And it's true, since most of the OG writers left anyway.

I'd say the Eternals were constructs more than robots. In a fantastical world such as WoW, you can say whatever the fuck you want and use "magic" to bring life to these constructs. Its comparable to installing AI in robots in our world, but not the same.
Nothing embodies the afterlife, where souls go to meet their judgment, where the spirits of the living receive their reward or punishment, quite like...robots?
