      Me too and it was an awesome truck that I had to walk away from The sales guy ran some numbers and said he could get me into it for $250 a month and then tried to shake my hand while congratulating me that I just bought the truck. I said not quite, what is the price of the truck and he started rambling (really loudly) that if I couldn't even afford $275 a month that I shouldn't even have been looking at that particular truck (this was over 20 years ago). I'd never seen anything like this guy. Pretty sure he was on something just by the way he looked and acted but it was creepy as hell.

      I understand your frustration, but the greatest majority of car buyers are payment driven. That means that they accept that they are going to be upgrading on a regular basis and will likely have a car payment until they retire. In this scenario, the sales PRICE is essentially irrelevant. These people will be replacing their cars every three years or so and never genuinely own the car…the bank will. I was very tactful with my script when doing this, but can see your potential frustration.

      You won’t get their lowest OTD price if you tell them you are paying cash or have your own financing because they get a kick-back on their arranged financing. Instead, just tell them you will consider their financing if you can agree on the OTD price, then when they later give you a finance offer, the terms will not be as good as what you can get at a credit union, just refuse the financing. Also refuse all of the other “packages” they will offer you. You pay the agreed OTD price and nothing more.

      Biggest mistake is buying for want and not for need. If a car fits the need - then it is a car.
      "I want a 3/4/1 ton RAM w/6.4 Hemi in it but do not need it to go to work, school, shopping, etc. and need it even less so if I never haul-pull anything that requires it besides as so many do. I do not NEED payments in excess of $750/month for 84 months and insurance costs of $200+ month to go with. I do need to have something that cannot even hardly achieve 15MPG so that it can pass everythiing but every gas station alongside the road".
      I love how so many complain about the high cost of everything; never have any $$$ and always go check to check while carrying large credit card balances but by GOD they have a 3/4 ton truck or larger with monthly payments like mentioned above as well as gas expenditures to go with - cannot figure out why no $$$ in their pocket-checkbook? 1. Never show your excitement in front of them. Dealerships capitalize on your excitement of you getting a new car and that's when they take advantage of you. Just stay calm and chill throughout the whole process.
    2. Don't use their bank,use your own bank or even better a credit union. Credit Unions always give you a lower APR. The dealership and their bank are in bed together. When you use your own bank/credit Union at least you know who you're sleeping with.

    $700 month - they always will say $350 Bi-Weekly then (it is not nearly the same as bi-monthly right) - and then the paperwork - often they did not put the tax in (or kept going back to talking raw payment) - and then no fees in there, items you thought were in there your downpayment need a bump due to the set up (often they will say .. well the first payment is delayed 45 pays .. so that extends the terms .. now if you would like to add the first payment to your down payment we should be back to the numbers you expected. Also that downpayment gets "used" for fees and such which effectively lowers what you actually put against the lending.

    To think which is what a lot of folks do not do before purchasing a vehicle that this actually goes on and folks fall for it!
    First thing is to purchase for need and not want - a concept many cannot understand @ all.
    A vehicle is an end to a means and somewhat of a necessity so as to go to work, shopping, Dr., school, etc. and IS NOT an appreciating in value asset but a constantly depreciating asset - especially the newer it is. It is also a cost to be manged, controlled and minimized as much as possible with a really good example being the idea/concept today that a person thinks they "need" a $75,000 RAM w/6.4Hemi in it that can hardly achieve 15MPG to go to work, school, shopping, etc. - nope! They think they "need" 4x4 if they live in a 4 season enviorment - think snow tires.
    Brand new over priced/over rated vehicles are the worst of all to purchase - a huge waste of $$$.
    20% down minimal; 4 year - 48 month finacing max with 3 year-36 month being better; pay attention to insurance costs and gas mileage; stay away from exotic-expensive oddball stuff like say buying a used SAAB as on example.
    People who complain about not being able to save $$$ and go check to check - no feelings of sorrow when you also think you have to "keep up with the Jones" as you are paying for this - not the Jones.

    • @CarolinaCarolina-ph9mx
      @CarolinaCarolina-ph9mx 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I am going to both agree and disagree with the 48 month financing. I agree that you want to pay the vehicle off as soon as possible to reduce the amount of interest you will have to pay, but I have 2 problems with the 48 month loan.
      1) Many lenders will no longer allow you to save money by paying it off early, so even if you could pay the vehicle off in 2 years and thus cut off the interest for the last 2 years, many lenders won't drop the interest that would have been owed, and will still charge the full amount of all the payments, so you have no incentive to pay off your loan early.
      2) If you lose your job or run into tough times, you don't want your car payment to be so high that you can't make it, and then lose your vehicle. Times are even harder then, so having a lower set payment can help through hard times. Lenders will always take more money, but it is tricky to get them to take less.
      I, personally, think the 72 month term is the best - while not advocating that a person take that long to pay the vehicle off. From what I have heard, if the loan is 72 months, there are no penalties to paying the loan off early, so if you were able to pay it in 24 months, you would only own interest up to 24 months, not the full 72 month term. Even a 60 month loan, from what I have been seeing, won't let you pay it off early without making you pay 60 months times the agreed payment amount, so there is no benefit to paying off early other than it is done. I don't know why they decided 72 months loans can pay off earlier without penalty, but I am glad to see it as an option. And, like I said, 72 month loan terms are smaller payments, so if things did get rough financially, having a loan with a lower payment could be the difference between holding onto or losing your vehicle. Just a few thoughts. 🙂

    • @marlinmr7
      @marlinmr7 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@CarolinaCarolina-ph9mxI too will both somewhat agree but more so disagree with your comment as follows:
      1.) Never in times past dealt with a lender that had penalities for paying off early as if that was part of the "terms' offered - nope - move on as lenders are very much like the dealers in that there are lots of them out there and more directly - credit unions are usually way better all the way around. Standard banks - not so much so.
      2.) To expand on my original comment a tad - first and best is still just pay cash - no loan. But if having to take out a loan - max payments for 48 month max terms should be no more than a max of $300 which goes with what i also stated about buying for need vs. want. No one needs a payment of more than $300 max and if the price and terms work out to more than $300 - move on and find something different that fits the budget. Budget is the key - refer back to need vs. want as any vehicle is an end to a means and is always normally a depreciating asset - not appreciating. This also goes back a controllable and manageable cost/expense. 20% or more down; payments no higher than $300; terms no longer than 48 months; if whomever is financing is indicating penalities and such if paid off early - check with the next 10, 15, 20 lenders and skip them as your money first - not their money.
      3.)72 month is to long as most vehicles new or used with new being the worst will not last 72 months without major $$$ put back into them - especially the newer stuff as more non-needed/non value added electonic "whiz bang" that when not covered under warranty costs a ridiculous amount to repair. This is also another reference back to budget and buying for need and not want. Being "underwater" on your loan to value and then needing expensive repairs - no way will you ever get your $$$ back out of any vehicle - especially if purchased brand new or very new.
      The other issue is the newer it is - the more ridiculous the cost is for insurance too - not worth it......
      I am a believer in Dave Ramsey logic today but long before Dave - most of my family and friends never take out loans - pay cash/buy older used and spend zero time worrying about "show & tell" or the latest "trends". It is paid for day one; does what it needs to do and gets them where they want to go and back. My Grandparents were especially good @ this and many other things - might explain when my Grandfather passed he left the farm including over 2400 acres of land; $$$ to go with; a plan to make it self sustaining for a TTL of over $32 million. His car @ the time of his passing was over 15 years old - not brand new even though he could have afforded a brand new for every day of the week! They had no debt - no payments - paid no one interest on anything for over 40 years and lived just fine until they each passed plus their legacy has been paying for college and starter homes for 20 years and going strong today!
      On the other side of the family had one uncle who was a banker for over 35 years - same logic. His younger brother @ one time owned 13 car dealerships and he always tried hard to get folks to buy within and under their means as well as buy for need and not want as he too did not want to see anyone in a bad place with a vehicle and/or vehicle loan.

Repos are sky high with largest dealer having to rent a second lot for all the repos from folks who bought new financed 72 months which is more than likely today 84 months or more; stretched themselves to thin to keep up with Jones/bought into the fantasy that the only thing they needed for transportation had to be new - had to be a truck/SUV - had a combo of payments and monthly insurance costs of easily $1,000+ and then could hardly afford the gas for the gas guzzlers besides.
      We own 15 vehicles currently as well 6 homes in multiple states with over 1,000 acres of land to go with the homes and only one has any $$$ owed against it of less than $50,000 @ 1.86% . Real estate has a nasty habit of APPRECIATING in value over time vs. depreciating for vehicles. The newer it is the more depreciation.
      Safety today comes primairly but putting ones phone down and paying attention to ones driving/around them and not playing with electronic "whiz bang" that primairly serves to distract and as well as cost lots of $$$ up front for nothing and cost lots of $$$ when not covered under warranty.

Salesman wanted a $1000 deposit before running my credit. (?) I asked if we didnt agree to terms would it be refundable? He kept going around that question and claimed it was a standard process, when I called BS, he said "You dont understand the process of buying a car." Seems very sleazy to me, I've never heard of a dealership charging for a credit check. I've had ones beg to check it before i even test drive. How easily could he have taken my money, come back and say "Great news, you're approved with a 27% interest rate". I say "that's ridiculous, i'm out, i'll take my $1000 back". The dealer didn’t have the car but they were willing to negotiate the base MSRP and then I added perks to the custom build. Never say you want a car with NO added option packages....until they say they can order you the car that you want. Dealerships don’t want to sell you a base car.

      I didn't even know that at the time 😕 makes sense though since they don't have them on the lot, when they ordered one for me they refused to come down any on the price 😭

    Been watching a lot of these videos and I have a big question - are you allowed to call the dealerships out on this? Can you just say up front "I know that's illegal", or "I know this exploding offer is BS" ? Feels like there's a lot of dancing around that in order to prove that you're a knowledgeable and well-researched buyer; is there any merit to letting them know all of that up front?

    You talk about make sure you get a pre inspection on a used vehicle prior to buying.Who's doing that the dealer or an uninterested party?

    • @sunnyta619
      @sunnyta619 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You find a good local mechanic who has no bias or skin in the game. Then based on that you negotiate your deal. Many dealerships try to hide tires, brakes, inspections, electric/flood damage etc esp on higher mileage cars.

    Who goes in looking for a payment?
    You tell them what you want to pay, and go in an hour before closing and prepare to walk or stay all night if you have to. 🤷‍♂️
    Best idea: buy a financial calculator app and pull it up and have it on the desk so they see you doing the PV/FV/interest calculation for every number they quote you.

    Last time I bought a car through a dealership they brought me the whole monthly payment and down payment sheet. I asked him what are the terms on the loan?
    The salesman came back with the same sheet, but a lower payment. Still no terms 😂
    I got through on the third attempt.

    Heh, funny. Its sooo much easier to live a life when you go to a dealer... or actually any store or service with the understanding that they are your enemy, your goals are as different as they can be, dont trust anything they say. So even if you dont know something you already programmed yourself that dealer is your enemy so they wont be able to force you to buy something you dont need or agree to something you dont want.

    I never pay attention to trends and resale values. I keep my car until they're no longer fixable. $750 a month? It better be leasing a BMW than buying a basic Kia

    The first mistake is starting at $750 a month! What?? Even $500 a month is is WAY too much of a payment for a car in the 30-40k range. I don't care what anyone says. If you can afford $500 a month that's your business but there is no reason that you shouldn't be able to get a payment around $250-$350 a month. Go ahead and roast me if you want to try.

    Shouldn't even be going into a dealership to buy cars. Only time you should visit the dealership is to test drive the vehicle. Other than that you should be buying and negotiating online and have the dealership deliver your car to your door.. You can buy a car in under 45 mins if you know how to. No more spending half or all day sitting in a dealership being frustrated with the games they play.
