- Howdy! fellow adventurers. In this episode, Wavey and I slowly move north, up the East Coast of Florida. We confirm our suspensions that there indeed is a conspiracy to make it hard (or perhaps impossible) for boaters to easily go to shore.

@donnam4260 that is very heart warming Donna. Thank you. I know you've been here a long time.
I appreciate this series of videos. I'm hunkering down at home this year and maybe next finishing paying off my home mortgage. When I was traveling I do it in an old jeep liberty that was purchased for my daughter originally. I take all the seats but the drivers out and have a bed platform I put in it. I like taking my time driving with no real destination kinda like you. But until I'm ready to hit the road again I spend my weekend evenings parked at a local Pilot truck stop facing west watching the sunset and eating dinner. After dark I watch your videos and all the interesting travelers making a pit stop for gas and other things. I understand it doesn't sound exciting, it's not meant to be. It's just relaxing. Thanks again for sharing your travels.

@@backwatersandbackroads I've often pondered......As a Disciple, I'm not allowed to be a Hermit!
I grew up in Sebastian, Fl . with my brother & family. We traveled along Jungle trail to a friend's house on the river and took a little boat across to David's island. We had a cabin that we built for just us (kids).
All the roads were sand back then and it was kinda like the wild west. I sure do miss those days. We could fish in and swim and run boats and no one bothered us. ⛵🐕🐬
That sounds like paradise
always look forward to these videos.
@DonaldScruggs-dh7yq thank you Donald for being here
Fl has a law that you can anchor pretty much anywhere, but no law that assures you have access to land. That keeps me from buying a liveaboard boat to live on in the winter. Even if you find a liveaboard marina, there is no guarantee it will be there in the future for you. You're at the mercy of someone else and I don't like that feeling. Just another way to restrict your freedom.
@dabprod all good points. Up north here, its typically easier because the lower populations...but not always.
@@backwatersandbackroads Yeah, I know. I live in up-state NY, but from FL. I have followed over the years of the fight between the wealthy home/condo owners in the FL keys and the Miami area, and the boat owners living on the hook.....FREE. FL passed a law favoring the boaters anywhere in the state that want to anchor out. But the law doesn't guarantee access to land. Thus, the signs you showed. I've read stories in FL about a marina being sold and new owners won't allow liveaboards. Now in panic mode, boat owners scramble to find a new marina home......if they can find one. A guy like you, owning a home-base in the UP with little or no restrictions, and traveling when you want, by whatever method you choose is the answer.
@dabprod the only "problem" is winter, and it comes back every year! ;) it's also the reason there aren't many people up here. Go figure ;) Thanks for backing me up on this.
@@backwatersandbackroads you're welcome.
Actually there are ways around issues with a little research. Basically the Florida reciprocity laws of the mean hi water mark. A state law Miami Beach forgets about. But also coming in farther on state/public lands. If you have the ability to take your dingy with you, you can always use a public boat ramp if your dingy is legal.

Wavey - what a great seadog !
The empty “wild” Florida space north of Titusville is due to the early days when it was decided to put spacecraft launching facilities there. The whole area was declared National Seashores and protected from development. Security for the launch areas was the idea. Additionally in the earliest days they did not know fully how the rockets were going to behave, and in the event one went out of control and went tearing up the coast there was a safety zone. If you look along the Atlantic side beach areas there are abandoned concrete bunkers intended to protect launch staff observers and photographers. Love your work.
Thank you for explaining that!

I would have definitely tied up to the dock where that Park was, said no boats but didn't say no dinghies, and then it would have been easier for you to get your gas.. I see Miss Wavy also has many four-legged fans..😊
I have so much stuff. Trucks, boats, kayaks, house, tools, gear of every description. I don’t know that I could get rid of all that stuff or be comfortable without it. I sure would like to try though.
@flimmaytinstone8980 I have the same problem...too much stuff!
We ducked into a marina across from Sebastian Inlet (close to your 'Pacific Island') to avoid the storms surrounding us. Had dinner at the marina's restaurant. Found our AC 'burned out'. As it was the end of October, sleeping with open hatches with fans was...tolerable. Our depature the next morning was delayed by 2 hours due to fog. No schedule to keep so just enjoyed our morning coffee waiting for the fog to burn off.
You brought back some wonderful memories!
Mosquito Lagoon (Northbound from Titusville). I LOVED the crossover pass with the draw bridge. You see so many porpoises and manatees. Just a beautiful cruise area! My best of times was cruising the ICW from Melbourne, Eau Galle Yacht Club...across from it was the Dragon House. It was abandoned (this was 10 yrs ago) for years but 'called out to me'. Enjoyed watching so many porpoises playing and hunting in that area. Again, memories flooding back. Thank you (from another Great Lakes boater!)

Hi Brenton 👋 and Wavey 😊
Hi Greg! ;)
Yeah I've used that little spot near Sebastián myself. I'm a professional delivery captain. The only part of the great loop I haven't done is Chicago to Sandusky. And Buffalo to Oswego (Too tall couldn't get under the trestle). You won't have to do the Welland
In my experience, they mostly put up those signs to help enforce long term stays. At least im my van experience. I see "no overnight parking" signs alot and still ask management what the deal is and many times they say its fine for 1 night. I assume its sometimes just so people dont set up camp there? The ones that really bothered me are the "no overnight parking for vehicles over 7 feet tall" saw alot of those on the west coast so they could ticket rvs 😠
But usually not worth risking a ticket. Unless its in a state you'll probably never come back to! Hahah
Nice job 👍

Draft is the depth of the boat below the waterline. A boat with a two foot draft DRAWS two feet of water. Some folks might consider my correction to be shallow and unimportant but every time the error is made, I have the same sensation in my gut as when I go aground

@@backwatersandbackroadsYes, YOUR BOAT DRAWS 10" It doesn't draft 10". Or are you bragging?
@@fredbrillo1849 I see now. Yes, those are different. Bragging? Not really, I mention it to make the point that many of the nest places are shallow to get to. Shanty boats tend to draft/draw very little and thus get to said spots

I used to live in this part of Florida too. I lived in the Eau Gallie section of Melbourne and worked at offices in Cocoa and Melbourne. It's a beautiful area. Unfortunately the Indian River, Banana River, Mosquito River estuary is not in very good shape these days ecologically wise. Too much run off from yard chemicals, oil and gasoline from roadways and other "non-point" source pollution has done great harm to the sea grasses and other things. Fishing is not what it once was and at times you can get nasty algae blooms. Such a shame. Enjoy your summer back up north. There has been a movement going on for at least twenty or so years to make it hard for boaters to do things like anchor off and bring their Dingy's to shore. It's when they started building all those multi-million dollar mansions and condos all over the place. At one time it was almost like a war of sorts between cruising boaters and owners of those fancy properties. It didn't matter if you had a nice yacht or a boat like yours that was to those people, a "junker." They weren't gonna have boats fouling up their million dollar views. City councils and county commissioners went along with the dictates of the wealthy by doing things like getting rid of many places that had been very popular anchoring sites for many decades once an area got developed and became an enclave for the rich. Money talks, ya know?
@michaelgarrity6090 this I'd one of the best explanations I've heard about this. Thank you.
Some would say, that is why they made war on the skeeters(Tourist and Snowbird Repellent).
