  • As a city figuratively in the shadow of Los Angeles, Long Beach is a city that doesn't get the attention that it deserves. I visited the Long Beach in the early 2000s and the city made an impression on me. Long Beach has an interesting history with several aspects that make it a unique city today. In this video I will briefly discuss Long Beach's history, population, skyline as well as a few things that make it unique today. Thanks for watching: Long Beach Overview | An informative introduction to Long Beach, California.

I love in Portland and visit LA and Long Beach about 4-5 times a year. Long Beach is easily one of my favorite parts of the LA metro -- it's extremely dense, walkable, diverse, and close to the water. Easily one of the most liveable areas in southern California.

Yessir, I wholly concur with your assessment. I like to think if it as the "poor man's access to beach living." lol
And that not a knock on long beach. It's just that beach life to the north (Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Santa Monica, etc) and beach life to the south (Huntington, Newport, Sana Point, etc) are so ridiculously expensive...

Disney tried to build a theme park around the Queen Mary (they owned it at the time) but financial issues, opposition from locals, and competition with Anaheim (where Disneyland is located) lead to the project being cancelled, but the theme was reused in Japan in 2001.

@@him31anshu yes it is costly nowadays. When I was living there, of course it wasn’t so high. I tried getting a room at the Westin on Ocean Blvd a couple years back and the woman wanted a $200 deposit plus $200 for one night’s stay. So make sure you bring some extra cash. The living costs depends on the area you’re in. Of course the homes closest to the beach are higher, but some apartments I’ve seen go for about $1,400 for a one bedroom. I highly suggest you and your family/friends eat at Tequila Jack’s near the beach. You will love it!!! They’re kinda high, but it’s worth it.

There’s a lot of diversity in everything and everywhere, the views are beautiful. My favorite place was Shoreline and the beach in the Alamitos area. Back then I was also a T-shirt you know elementary school so I can say that I also had a good experience when it comes to the education system in Long Beach. It’s a place to visit for sure, and to have in a bucket list when it comes to the United States.

It’s fascinating how different each California skyline can be. Even the big three, Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego skylines appear vastly different to me. San Francisco has that tight almost east coast skyscraper density while the other two have that more open western look. Los Angeles is so tall compared to San Diego. Long Beach, Fresno, Sacramento and San Jose’ all have a smaller skyline but each are again so different. San Jose hardly has a skyline at all. Why? It is one of the largest cities in the U.S. For this video, I like the Long Beach harbor and those fascinating camouflage islands. 😎🥇
