It's not about their skill or talent, even though those have helped inspire us over the years; given our music teachers someone to show us as an example... It's about what they chose to say in their music, how they spoke to us, as if directly, and how they allowed us to become close to them by expressing themselves openly through their solos, songs, and imperfections. I turn 60 this year and when I grow up i wanna play like Shaun Martin. Bought Keyscape thinking it would happen automatically if I just had the software. Apparently I still have practice!
This man turned me from a metal elitest to a very open minded musician , watching him.perform was magical .. I now own 1 synth and 1 keyboard and I practice everyday ...Shaun was an inspiration to me and many others.... so humble , and nice to everyone he met , especially fans.. RIP Shaun .. You are a legend in my book.

Plug ins usually don’t match the original but Spectrasonics sounds much better than the original. It has so much dynamics control and effects processing it blows my mind
It’s so crazy to think that the Billy Joel song comes in at the 1min mark and the entire video is only 3.5min long. It felt like I just listened to 20mins of heaven! The power of music with extreme depth!
This guy is so!!!!!! sick and soulful in his playing. This guy is the reason I started looking at Spectrasonics products. Some of these players that are just running all over the place when playing the instruments are not really expressing or showing the true quality of the instruments sounds. Sometimes it`s good to keep it in the pocket and let the instrument do the talking. Good job bro you really showed what the product sounds like very simple and clean.
Absolutely agree with you - feel supersedes notes per second, and in Shaun's case he has both - the chops for very fast playing - in music that demands this, yet as you say - always in the pocket, complementing the music, rather than just a string of notes.
I liked this music, but the wife comment at the end I found to be very strange. I bet his wife is like, ya dude I've heard you play like 50 million times. I don't get the joke/innuendo.
I love Shaun Martin, he has such a nostalgic way of playing and is such a pure soul. That Billy Joel rendition paired with his childlike giddiness in awe of the tech is so infectious and wholesome.
So great to hear the Rhodes sound again ... it was such a great and unique and versatile and much-copied instrument that I sometimes think Harold Rhodes should get a Nobel prize or something!
Back again on this video after 6 years to pay my respect to another Gospel great that we lost too soon. Shaun, thank you for your amazing contributions to music. I especially wanna thank you for the work you've done with Kirk Franklin. "imagine Me" is one of my alltime favorite Gospel records that you were apart of creating.
