You are mistaken about the timeline of the name. The name Kensington was used around 1910 when the builders were making the neighborhood. They also changed some streets to reflect that same vibe. Instead of using things Ave a, or b, they changed to Albemarle, Beverly etc. You are correct that it was all part of Flatbush tho. That encompassed most of Brooklyn at one point.
