Although I agree the Roy Jones win didn’t count for much except a curtain call for Joe, the Hopkins win was still impressive. It was an ugly ugly fight like a lot of Hopkins matches but look at what he went on to do after that L! He took Pavlik’s 0, wins over Pascal, Dawson and Cloud to unify titles. Needs putting into context. Joe was also old and his hands were ruined. He did an absolute number on Lacy who was a big favourite. He beat a much younger unbeaten Kessler who would go on to take Froch’s 0. JC is one of the most under appreciated champions ever imo. As for him vs Ward it’s too hard to call. David Benavidez who isnt a legendary boxer he has a style that Calzaghe would not be able to deal with. Benavidez would be too strong and too good on the inside but his height and reach would give him problems on the outside too. 6ft 3 and too strong in the clinch.
@@xkeyscore1120 Also, Ward has seen so many styles as an Olympian. Also, can you really say Calzaghe had a better career than Ward? Calzaghe best wins were against a washed up RJJ and an old Hopkins who foolishly took a shortened fight against Calzaghe. Also, Ward had a better jab than Calzaghe as well.
The bullshit he didn't fight in America excuse can also be reversed, the American never fought outside the US. In fact Ward barely even ever fought outside his home state of California and most of those were in his home city. During the Super 6 Tournament he was the only fighter to not only not fight away from home, Ward fought every single fight in his home town up to the final but it even that was still in the States. Calzaghe also mostly fought at home but he still managed to fight in Germany and US also something Ward never did.
macallum was right when he said its about who would want it the most and both fighters would give everything they had and more but i think joe woulda come out on top he had it all great chin , great speed, great skill , good power look what he did to roy jones when roy jones had never been cut before ,great at adapting to a fight, tough on the inside could fight rough if needed and dirty like ward, and he had some serious stamina he just would of been that bit too much for ward in the end
Joe was old when he fought the great Americans. These great Americans avoided Calzaghe when he was at his peak and only fought him when he was old and they were no longer champions.
My GOD... and this is an American Gym.... with "boxing people" in it?? "Calzaghe too small to beat Ward"... They were the same height give or take a centimetre, and Joe had a longer reach. "Calzaghe ducked Jones and Hopkins in their prime" ... NO>>>> The only fight that was actually made was Calzaghe v Hopkins in 2002. Purse agreed, American venue agreed... then Hopkins just pulled out, and NEVER fought at 168 (because he knew the World would want to know why he ducked JC) As for Roy Jones? FFS... Roy had been World Champion at 175 for nearly a year before Calzaghe even beat Eubank. No way was Roy going to drop back down to 168, and Calzaghe was too inexperienced to step straight up to 175. Joe is quite open about that All of the above is FACT. If I know this.... Why dont these alleged "boxing people"? Ward was a class act. But unless he knocks Calzaghe out..... JC takes it on points.
I get fed up with this, IT was Jones and Hopkins who turned down fights with Calzaghe , in the same way James Toney kept banging on about kicking the shit out of Benn and Eubank BUT turned down the fights when they came up. Andre Ward cannot ever beat Calzaghe, Doesnt throw enough punches , isnt more intelligent and if he gets dirty, Joe can do that too. Plus Calzaghe has 1 kind of controversy on his record (Robin Reid) Ward has 3 (Kovalev x2 and Kessler) all repeated fouling. Not to mention that ward wouldnt fight outside of his back garden and with his own judges
Roy had been KO'd a couple times and slowed down by the time he fought Calzaghe. The Hopkins fight, Joe won on busyness. It was closer than it looked, many shots hit his gloves or missed.

Ward timing and jab is superior to Calzaghe... early on joe would overwhelm him early and the distance control, jab and body work that ward has would make it hard for joe to get in to use hes combinations and activity after about 2-3 rounds
Early on, Joe would overwhelm him?? After 6 rounds, Ward would suddenly realise Calzaghe is sucking the oxygen out of him. Calzaghe, non-stop for 12 rounds. Unanimous decision. Hopkins would never have seen the end of that fight if he hadnt played dead for 5 minutes and got himself a break
Calzaghe had everything man. Machine gun showman. Great boxer . People still blame Calzaghe that he fought everybody whe they gol older. Calzaghe was 36 and Jones 39 when they fought. Americans will neer see somebody outside USA better than their own boxers.
People talk about Calzaghe fighting Hopkins and jones who were not in their prime, nieither was Calzaghe. They talk about Calzaghe 'slaps', he had hand inuries so adapted his style and still won. The US didn't see Joe in his prime. There was only a few years diff between Joe and Roy Jones Jr. It makes it sound like there was 15 years diff or something.
42 or whatever is not peak. He was smart and had a bag of tricks that he pulled out as he got older. Many of Joe's slaps missed, or just hit his gloves, which is not clean shots landed or effective aggression.

32-0 vs 46-0. Andre Ward by Unanimous Decision. Ward had the better jab and defense. Andre would've beat Joe on the inside. Ward's inside game, defensively and offensively would have neutralized Calzaghe work rate
Calzaghe was the best adjuster in boxing and was also great inside. Joe would have worked out Ward by the middle rounds and stepped up his volley of punches. Ward was brilliant, however, his work rate was half of what Joe produced. Joe was strong all the way through 12 rounds and would have won by 8 rounds to 4.
Exciting fight, but Ward needs to put Joe on the ropes and put a beating and score a knockdown. Joe is too strong mentally and physically and use volume to produce a war and win a SD. But Ward when he comes back in the rematch tko’s Joe in the championship rounds.

Genuine 50/50 both in their prime.
Joe was too fast. Too much output. He knocks Ward Spark out
Nah Ward had good defense and heart he came off the canvas in the Kovalev fight
Joe didnt have the power to hurt Ward. Also, Ward is a way better defensive fighter.
@@democracyisevil6043 Joe didn't need power to hurt Ward. Joe has speed. 9 punches per second he was tapping out at when he was tested on counter punch. He was to busy for Ward. Ward is a great fighter but not in Joes league.
@@xkeyscore1120 Ward is way more battle tested than Calzaghe. He had way better timing and way more. Also Calzaghe defense is extremely hyped up overrated by the biased UK fans. Ward would figure him out. I remember when British fans said McDonnell was too defensively sound for Inoue.
Joe was 36 when ppl wanted to fight him😂😂😂
macallum was right when he said its about who would want it the most and both fighters would give everything they had and more but i think joe woulda come out on top he had it all great chin , great speed, great skill , good power look what he did to roy jones when roy jones had never been cut before ,great at adapting to a fight, tough on the inside could fight rough if needed and dirty like ward, and he had some serious stamina he just would of been that bit too much for ward in the end
Early prime Cal actually had power. He had a lot of clean KO and Knock downs but his volume of punches led to hand injuries.
Spot on ...
Purse agreed, American venue agreed... then Hopkins just pulled out, and NEVER fought at 168 (because he knew the World would want to know why he ducked JC)
As for Roy Jones? FFS... Roy had been World Champion at 175 for nearly a year before Calzaghe even beat Eubank.
No way was Roy going to drop back down to 168, and Calzaghe was too inexperienced to step straight up to 175. Joe
is quite open about that
All of the above is FACT. If I know this....
Why dont these alleged "boxing people"?
Ward was a class act. But unless he knocks Calzaghe out..... JC takes it on points.
Ward didn’t see anyone like joe…that’s a heavy question to ask
I love both guys both undefeated, Would go with Calzaghe insane Volume Punches with incredible Stamina Having Enzo Calzaghe in his Corner 💯
Everyone saying Hopkins past it then 5 years after fighter Joe he won another title 🤦♂️.
people always forget about the kessler fight
Joe was 37 when he beat rj and bh
36
Roy had been KO'd a couple times and slowed down by the time he fought Calzaghe. The Hopkins fight, Joe won on busyness. It was closer than it looked, many shots hit his gloves or missed.
Hopkins was 43
Jones was 40.
This is one of the all time I dont know fitghts.
Ward is one of the hardest geezers to ever walk the face of the earth.
But Sir Joe can rack up the rounds...
Definitely joe, joe would’ve boxed rings around him.
Joe would have beaten Ward allday
Like Ward for sure but Calzaghe work rate wins it everytime
I got my money on calzaghe any day.
Joe is a slapper? Well forba slapper he s asked lacey face good and proper.. ward wins?? Joe would out box him without a doubt
Calzaghe all day long
Calzaghe *stops* Andre Ward in the 9th
Man Jeff is my favorite Mayweather. I love that dude.
Joe Calzaghe slap the hell out wards face 😂
The guy with the green towel, I thought you was going to say ward or Jones, now that would've been close 👀 😂😭😭
Throwing out any chance of Joe winning, he's that underated, guy was a great fighter, don't get enough credit imo anyway
Lmao Joe would outbox/outwork Ward... not even close
14.24 when he says calzaghe to small for ward haha what a numpty
Ward timing and jab is superior to Calzaghe... early on joe would overwhelm him early and the distance control, jab and body work that ward has would make it hard for joe to get in to use hes combinations and activity after about 2-3 rounds
Early on, Joe would overwhelm him??
After 6 rounds, Ward would suddenly realise Calzaghe is sucking the oxygen out of him. Calzaghe, non-stop
for 12 rounds. Unanimous decision.
Hopkins would never have seen the end of that fight if he hadnt played dead for 5 minutes and got himself
a break
joe didn't fight a prime Roy Jones, let's not forget Roy Jones didn't fight a prime Joe, Calzaghe all the way
Calzaghe had everything man. Machine gun showman. Great boxer . People still blame Calzaghe that he fought everybody whe they gol older. Calzaghe was 36 and Jones 39 when they fought. Americans will neer see somebody outside USA better than their own boxers.
Calzaghe always spoiled his opponents work. Nobody shined against him.
Man,Jeff has got some moves...should have been a dancer
Joe calzaghe all day
People talk about Calzaghe fighting Hopkins and jones who were not in their prime, nieither was Calzaghe. They talk about Calzaghe 'slaps', he had hand inuries so adapted his style and still won. If Ward fought 'slapper' Calzaghe he loses, if he fought injury free Prime Calzaghe then he is getting beat easier. Calzaghe was relentless, tough, game, fast a truly great fighter, as was Ward, but Calzaghe would win
Calzaghe also beat a very dangerous Mikkel Kessler. Yes, RJJ and Bernard Hopkins were past their prime, but so was Calzaghe.
Lou Del Valle calling JC overrated because he thought a BHop on the way down. BHOp went and beat a 26 year old undefeated World Champion Kelly Pavlik just 6 months after losing to JC.
BHop was still top of the chain when he lost to JC; JC battered ‘the next Mike Tyson’ and unified the belts beating Kessler. He would have fought more of the top guys if not for injuries and a rubbish promoter. Beats Ward on points; throws too many for Ward defence to handle
Well JC is undefeated now isn’t he? LOL!
They both are.
It’s a tough fight for both , I wouldn’t like to pick a winner
Ward could not have thrown enough punches; no way Ward could work that matrix out. Calzaghe all day long
Great fight that shouldve happened .irs hard to say but i believe Andre Ward would inside fight him and rough him up to where joe wouldn't be able to outwork Ward with his punches.
If Ward fought Joe , and if Joe's hands where 100%. Who do you think?
i know for a fact it would've been incredibly messy and boring. edge towards ward, but very close to call really.
also depends massively on where the fight was held
Dude saying Calzaghe is overrated because he beat fighters on their way out. He was on is way out too and was fighting with broken hands, not to mention Hopkins beat serious competition after that fight.
The US didn't see Joe in his prime.
There was only a few years diff between Joe and Roy Jones Jr. It makes it sound like there was 15 years diff or something.
Joe calzaghe done all the yanks
Stop with the Hopkins was on his way out. He was peaking later in his career. Joe beat the best that Hopkins was
FACTS
For sure. Bernard and Roy Jones were better than Ward. Joe beat them both!
42 or whatever is not peak. He was smart and had a bag of tricks that he pulled out as he got older. Many of Joe's slaps missed, or just hit his gloves, which is not clean shots landed or effective aggression.
@@jevon1007 exactly
An old hopkins neutralised alot of stuff calzaghe did but just wanst busy enough. Its easy to say calzaghe i agree his output is insane and i see him einning on points too. But im a fan of both and it think it goes like joe vs hopkins except ward is more active... idk im saying a draw
finally somebody who ACTUALLY understood what they were watching in the Calzaghe vs hopkins fight. that's why I always felt ward would beat him...Dre IQ and his inside fighting would rip Calzaghe apart he wouldn't know what to do against andre ward. competitive fight but ward outpoints him
@@RASHONBOND973 yeah i would say the same tbh wards cut from the same cloth as hopkins plus in his prime in a fantasy matchup on top of already being more athletic than hopkins and with great toe to toe work like you said ward can maul people with his old school toe to toe stuff
@@RASHONBOND973
He who establish a good jab and activity will win, Ward I feel wont go for broke attack considering Joe's recovery rate and his power will be relatively reduced due to defense
Hopkins neutralised Calzaghe by.... making it a non fight. Grabbing, leading with the jab then a wraparound right, wrestling, butting...... and STILL Calzaghe was pushing him back... So much so that Hopkins played dead TWICE. So the real story here is... Calzaghe neutralised Hopkins
Hopkins didn't age as fast as many other fighters and won a belt long after that fight so while he wasn't prime he wasn't old to the point he was ineffective, reminds me of a Floyd. Genetically gifted to go further for longer . Joe on the other hand was 36 and at the end of his career. He had a tougher matchup against BH than he did Jones but he won decisively in that fight. Ward was NEVER a Bernard Hopkins and $ would've been on BH everyday 2x on sunday. Joe beats Ward in a decision, although Joe had power with nearly 70% KO ratio. Ward's too good to be KOd.
Calzaghe wins!!!
Who wants it the most is the best answer EVER
What would the result be if this poll was held in a British gym?
Where you from? Montenegro. What kind of weed that grow out there? 😄 🤣 😂 😆 random as fuck all the mayweathers got a little crazy in them.
Lou Del Valle is… delusional
Calzaghe. With the victory, the 36 year-old Calzaghe pushed his mark 46-0, 32 KO's. Jones, 39 not much of an age gap when they fought tho but yes rjj was past prime.

Exciting fight, but Ward needs to put Joe on the ropes and put a beating and score a knockdown. Joe is too strong mentally and physically and use volume to produce a war and win a SD. But Ward when he comes back in the rematch tko’s Joe in the championship rounds.
Calzaghe was a very good fighter, but i think he was lucky to get the decision against Robin Reid and Bernard Hopkins. Ward would figure out Calzaghe and beat him
Calzaghe easy. If someone wants to see the ugliest boxing match put ward vs hopkins.
Calzaghe easy you must be a ward hater. It’s a tough fight
@@Only1Kizz No I like ward, he is very clever defensive fighter, ugly boxer tho, and I think if the game happens in england easy win for Joe, in las vegas with a ref like the one in hopkins fight, which allow holding and headbutts then its gonna be tougher. But Calzaghe is superior boxer in everything. And ward has a loss to kovalev, which he is nowhere near the level of Joe, so.
@@ΒασίληςΠαπαμιχαήλ-μ4β In the 1st fight I thought ward won by one point tough fight though and in the second fight what happened👂🏾👂🏾? ward fought better competition and probably has a better career. Who has Calzaghe fought who is the same level as Kovalev. To be honest it’s a close fight because of Calzaghes business and wards ability to adjust and great boxing IQ. I was kind of leaning towards ward but now I don’t know.
@Jay Jungle BIASED🤫
“easy”
was Joe Calzaghe even tested

Great question 👍 you Americans know your boxing stuff, over here in the uk the question here is who wins calzaghe or froch!! Haha!! Only ever one winner and answer there!! Wardv calzaghe = split decision calzaghe! Andre ward a true great though!!
WTF is that old dude one? 'Like Rocky Marciano????????
Joe fought Roy jones when he was 36 and Roy was 39 so both of them were at the end of their boxing carrier
damn jeff got movesssssss
