Wow! My heart was beating along with yours as you cranked the Bogie for the first time. It sounded so GOOD: Smooth, powerful, "happy." And your smile was priceless.
Awesome! And your smile when it fired up- priceless! Been watching your build for a while, and I’m super excited for you to get in the air. Keep up the great work, and thanks for bringing us into your world. Cheers!
Hey Steve K+N filter is pre-oiled FYI. Slight pink tinge is the oil. Take note of how light it is when you go to clean and re-oil-makes a big mess in the induction system if they are over oiled!
⬆️ This ⬆️. That's what I was going to say. K&Ns are pre oiled and are good flow when clean, but in my experience they let fine dust through. I guess the answer for that is a pre filter. They also get restricted when dirty. I found this out the hard way on a small 600cc two cycle race engine. I was leaning out the jetting as the filters were getting dirty, (I thought it was from late summer warmer temps and atmospheric conditions that was creating the need for leaner jetting). Anyway I then cleaned the filters and that leaned it out too much and it squeaked a piston :( And yeah don't over oil them.
You ran a hell of a project, Steve. You will always have some of your own second guessing that'll creep but every one of those decisions, resulted in the creation of your own, truly unique, beauty. I know you really are a rock star of a test pilot but I'm looking forward to some super safe and geeky test flights, not necessarily the most youtube friendly vids. What can I say? Super proud of you.
Steve, I noticed your fuel line from the flow transducer to the servo is against or very near your exhaust pipe. You need at least 3 inches of separation there and possibly a heat shield. Couldn't tell on the fuel line from the servo up to the spider but same comment.
Loved the stoke cam. I'm so excited for the first flight! I'd ask your mechanic for an opinion about that fuel line that appears to be touching up against the exhaust. You have thoroughly convinced me to look into lighspeed ignition and to go fuel injected on my X-340 for the GlaStar!
Super awesome to see first start!! Congrats!! The only dinger I'm going to give you on this is you had an ABC fire extinguisher standing by. Dry chem extinguishers are highly corrosive to metal. Get a CO2 extinguisher to have on hand for flammable liquid or electrical fire. Use an ABC as a last resort.
Ok! Thanks for the tip. It was just the one supplied in my hangar. I'll look into that. Also, it seems I need to move a fuel line further away from the exhaust...
Congratulations Bogie! Been watching and waiting for a long time for this. Awsome! The beauty of all your hard work is that you know every square inch of Bogie. All the systems and how it works because you did all of it. I fail to understand in these modern times why people still mess with legacy certified aircraft. Makes no sense that a person can't make upgrades or modifications that would improve or in most cases make the airplane safer. Experimental is the way to go. Absurd that you need permission from "daddy FAA " to install a door shock to be legal. Anyway; good luck and get that beauty in the wind where it belongs!
FUEL LINE "ON" THE EXHAUST??? Fire protected or not, that hose going to the carb has a very good potential of vapor lock w/o the boost pump on not to mention the slightly elevated risk of a fire. You may want to consider relocating both fuel hoses much further away from the exhaust. Great job though!! Love the 1 blade startup.
Awesome and congratulations! If you ever run your fuel low in the header tank, you will continue to have problems with burping and refueling problems. May not actually get as much fuel on board as you expected. You’ll need a vent tube from the front. Mine originally did not have a vent tube on the front and with the higher fuel flow return of the Rotax, I had significant pressurization and low fuel issues during climbs. How are you feeling about the seating and ergonomics?
It’s definitely different! It’s continuing to grow on me too. It’ll look even better airborne. Plus it’s like a fighter pilots call sign…a bit awkward at first but you grow into it.
is it a problem that the throttle-body fuel line lays up against the port exhaust?
Yeah I’m on it! Thanks for the comment!
One giant leap for Cleared Direct! Congrats on the first start up!
So rad! Looking forward to seeing the last little bits come together!

Congratulations! I could feel your excitement, almost time to fly.

Steve- Congrats on the start-up! Huge milestone. I'm eating your dust! Great stuff. Randy

Congrats nice to hear the cylinders got warm keep up the good work!!!
Nice! Can’t wait to see it fly!👍
Wow, congrats that’s awesome. Thank you for the thorough walk through and the mention.
Of course! Isn't that just weird when someone mentions you on their channel? Kinda cool, but still still gettin used to it.

Happy New Year 🎉🎉🎉
Awesome build ! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !
Ditto
Congrats!

Woooo! Yeah I’ll ensure I get the fuel line off the exhaust. First flight soon once I’m done galavanting through Japan…
Super awesome to see first start!! Congrats!!

@@CLEAREDDIRECT I assume the airport requires the ABC for a type-A fire. It'll be good to have both there.
Hahaha. Yeah…. Lose the sticker. Love the door steward.

Thanks! Too early to tell about the seating/ergo. Seems to be....okay-ish?
@@CLEAREDDIRECT ha that’s what I thought as well… lmk when she’s ready as I might fly west, and find some snow to ski in.
my only thought is it appears the fuel lines are too close to the exhaust. could this be a problem? i dont know.
Are you going to wrap the exhaust and muffler?
Thinkin about it. Recommendation? I need to move a fuel line away from the exhaust regardless...
Bravo Zulu Brother
Go Navy. 🇺🇸⚓🇺🇸
Is that fuel line touching the exhaust???
Sure is! Not for long
I have to be honest, I hated that paint job in all the renders. But now that I see it finished I have to say, it’s pretty sick.
