    as a fellow tradesman, i appreciate seeing videos like this. A professsional who does exactly what needs to be done for the product to hold up for years to come. Keep on doing things the way they're supposed to be done. Call me old school, but when your in these trades, do the best you can possibly do for the product to hold up for years to come. Keep on doing things perfect bruh, you'll get paid in the long run and always have work because of your integrity.

    Love commercial grade LVT. In my rentals I glue to stuff on stairwell walls 4' high as a wainscot capped with metal bead - no more repairs in an area that gets most heavily damaged. Cut a perfect circle (hole saw) and glue to wall as color-matched door knob protector. Use as wainscot walls around toilets or back of kids' closets - anywhere that gets impact or water. Use as floor inside sink base cabinets, even as kitchen backsplash or garden window floor. Tenants love the look and I love the price.

    Amazing work. I have some rigid spc vinyl planks to use as tread and another rigid vinyl to use as risers. I'm scared that under my carpeted stair would probably be the same chip board. If so, is underlayment a must or can I still do without it? Seems like a double work load if I had to do underlayment.

    • @FloorsbySouthernboys
      @FloorsbySouthernboys  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yours is probably a clip together plank so you will not need to use underlayment, mine was a glue down product so therefore the surface had to be really slick because the product was thin. Simply clean your steps up really good and you will be fine if it is and click together product

  •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a rigid core click together vinyl plank that has a foam backing. I bought flush mount stair nose from the same company. It doesn't have a foam backing. It clicks into the planks. Should I remove the foam from the planks or just leave it? Seems to peel off easy. Worried it'll stay stuck to the step and plank will come off. Or am I just over thinking this. Was gonna go with PL Max as the adhesive for all of it.

    I love your attention to detail. Great craftsmanship. Question about the aluminum. Recently I had to move an appliance and the appliance dolly is a little hard on the stair edges. Is there a concern with the aluminum bending or getting damaged or misshapen If something runs over it or it gets hit? And if so, how easy is it to pry that blue off into the new piece on?

    • @FloorsbySouthernboys
      @FloorsbySouthernboys  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      B. Wolfe Thank you sir, as long as you’re on the top of the step the transition piece is completely flat on top so I would not think that it would bend or dent The only part that would possibly get damaged that I would think would be the front because it has that little curve to it , And as far as taking one off and replacing it I have never attempted it but I am sure that the glue holds pretty good in order to hold up to daily wear and tear

    Awesome, thank you. Have you ever done stairs using loose lay luxury vinyl tile planks? If so, would the process be any different than this? I'm doing our main floor in a dark shade of loose lay vinyl tile, (similar to this look) and thinking of doing the landing at the bottom of the stairs, in the basement, with the same product, but a light colour instead. There are 13 stairs in between. Trying to figure out the best way to do the stairs, from a design standpoint. Was thinking of doing the stair tops in the dark planks with matching nosing, and the risers in the light coloured plank. What are your thoughts on that?

    • @FloorsbySouthernboys
      @FloorsbySouthernboys  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Elisabeth Drachenberg I think that would be beautiful, I’m actually done quite a few sets of steps where they just have a plain white riser and word or vinyl plank on the treads, so I think a color contrast would be beautiful, and as long as there is not a pad on the back of the plank that you’re putting down on your steps I would glue them to the steps, you would not have to do the extent of prep as I did in this video because you’re going to be dealing with a thicker More solid product than I was, this was a thin blue down, if you’re done a loosely click together I assume you won’t have to do near the prep

    Shame on VPF companies for NOT creating an edge on the stair/bullnose treads that will CONNECT seamlessly to more flooring. I’d rather do a straight cut on the bullnose tread to remove the connecting lip if it got in the way of the riser....than have to have any kind of gap, lip, transition.
    Mind boggling that the wheel has to be reinvented here...

    Before marking the underlayment, use masking tape where your cut lines will be prior to marking. Mirror the masking tape on the reverse. This can help reduce chip out and cleanup time on the material after cutting. Simply peel the tape, lightly sand with a sanding block, and move on with much less surface damage on the edges.

    Awesome video! Such attention to detail and very clear steps. I recently had some Allure TrafficMASTER vinyl flooring installed. I'm planning to install the remaining planks on a set of steps to a basement. The steps are wooden with a 1 inch lip so I'm curious how you would handle the aluminum nosing installation?

    • @FloorsbySouthernboys
      @FloorsbySouthernboys  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason M. Konigsbauer I would build out the risers of the step so that there was no bull nose on the steps then treat them just like I did in this video, a quarter inch plywood as a three-quarter inch plywood should bring your riser out perfectly flush with your bull nose

    Yes nice work! A few questions: Do you buy all your product locally or online? Do they sell you both the plank & stair nose? What kind of material did he use for the trim? And lastly, do you caulk any of your seams between the flooring & trim or stair nose?

    • @FloorsbySouthernboys
      @FloorsbySouthernboys  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Walker I buy all my materials local, the plank and stair nosing was ordered at the same time and he used a regular corner piece that you can get from Lowe’s or Home Depot to trim out the edges and no I do not cock any seams in the flooring or between the trim

      40 staples per step, there must be another way of doing this? It's too thin to use screws? Sand the OSB and then glue to it? Nails and glue? Expanding glue and less staples?

    We have those vinyl planks in our kitchen going on ten years now. They look almost as good as the day they were installed but I have a hard time believing that the finish on that aluminum will be scratch free after ten months without tender loving care. No shoes allowed! I was expecting to see a brown vinyl or rubber nosing strip.

    Nosings: I would THINK that those nosings wouldn't look good for long and that they would scratch and wear down to the shiny aluminum on the top. I mention this because I'm making this decision right now. I would THINK it would be better to just start out with the shiny aluminum ones so when they get scratched and wear and the finish wears off, it would still look like new or at least be a LOT less noticeable. I have some in my house that have been there since the house was new, the screw-down type, and they still look like new. I am interested in the experiences people have had over time with nosings.
    PS: The plus side of aluminum moldings verses wrapping the edge is you are far less likely to slip, and you don't need the traction strips change color from embedded dirt.
    LVP: I've never seen LVP that flexible What kind is that, and how good is the wear layer and thickness? Our stairs takes a beating. LOL!

      The vinyl skin on them is fairly stout. Same thing as the floor really, a veneer skin fastened to core. A bad scratch is rare and can happen, that'd be only thing to worry about. Just don't moon walk the steps in leveler spikes.
