Even if you fill every pond with the fish that gives the most that you can obtain without fishing (the super cucumber) you don’t even come CLOSE to reaching level 10. :/
Imagine it. A new farmer comes to your town, speaks to no one, drops millions on barns and pigs. Robin spends months, day in day out, with no rest just to build them all. Marnie has to outsource pigs just to keep up. In one day, millions of dollars are injected into your town. And just like that, you don't see the farmer for months. You go by his farm just to see if he's around, but it's a sea of pigs and truffles. It in the distance, standing amongst the pink blobs you spot him. Its the farmer. He's moving at a speed that shouldn't be possible. He's ripping truffles out of the ground and they vanish into thin air. As he floats across the ground you can't help but gasp in horror. He hears you You see him gulp down an entire cup of coffee. Staring you down, he pulls out what looks like a plate of eels and eats it all in one bite. Including the plate. He moves towards you at astonishing speed. His legs don't even look like they're moving as he floats across the ground. He stops on a dime in front of you, a rush of air following behind him. He stares you down, reaches into his pocket and pulls out an.....egg? You never spoke to each other, but he knows you love eggs. this is also another concept where i love to imagine the townspeople’s reaction, especially to the fishing. like just frantically fishing up pounds upon pounds of fish and presumably throwing most of it away/back in the ocean, and then never repeating this behavior again

In an older version of Stardew, you could open your quest log while your line was sent out, which would result in you still being able to fish while time was frozen, so theoretically if you had way too much patience and time on your hands you could max out fishing
I remember this. You could also cancel the passing out animation in the same way, meaning you actually had infinite time in a day if you were willing to do that every 10 in-game minutes.
At 20:20 I was so convinced you would bring up how seed makers can make wild seeds, and how if you do the mushroom cave, you could collect common mushrooms to turn into fall seeds to plant and cultivate
Just from a "quick maths" perspective, the mushroom cave idea would need at least 350 or so in game days of mushroom collection to get 2143 fall seeds while this winter root system can be done in 60 in-game days. But obviously that means 3 years of winters because the first two winters would have only 56 days and then in the third winter, the last of the winter root is collected and then seeds are planted. So maybe the mushroom cave method is a bit faster by comparison.

The wiki may be wrong regarding the wilderness farm. It looks like any monster kill on the farm doesn't give combat xp. May be able to do something with hardmode skull caverns though - Can do the floor reset trick on floor 1. Hmm, I wonder if a prismatic slime gives xp... looks like it does.
Do the tiger slimes by the ginger island farm give exp? If so, you can use the wilderness farm to complete all bundles (Or just pay off joja), get to ginger island, spam food items to breed the tiger slimes, and kill them all to get level 10, right?
Re: mining. Minor correction, breaking rocks in the mine doesn't give XP unless it drops a coal or it is one of the darker grey rocks that always drop stone.
Yeah he legit said if It drops coal so if the rock always does he doesn't need to point it out in specific because saying if it dropped coal at all it would gain xp

I'm fall year 1 with lvl 10 fishing and farming, level 9 mining, 8 foraging, and 7 combat...... But I'm also a compulsive min-maxer who does not at all mind resetting the day if I really fuck something up or lose several minutes because I forgot to bring certain items with me, soooooo.....
there is another way, if you sacrifice 700 of your children, every time you enter the mine seven hundred of these monsters will spawn enabling you to get to level 10 combat easily.
Idea for combat: could you put down a bunch of slime hutches, take the slime incubators from all of them, breed hundreds of slimes outside on the wilderness farm, and kill them?
Fish is absolutely possible in a single day. Its just RNG based, around a 2.3% chance per day, and would require a decent amount of resetting. But its possible. First off, desert farm, 100 golden walnuts, rainy spring day, and extended family quest active, with high daily luck preferable but not required. Assuming high daily luck, our chances for a treasure chest in 21%ish, which are good odds. We have 7 legendary fish we can catch, all the extended family, and the original Legend and Mutant Carp. We cant catch the originals until we turn in the 5 extended family copies, but we should be able to do that before needing to catch the last two. Catching all 5 legendary fish gives a base of 905, multiplied by 5 for 4525 EXP. If all of them come with a treasure chest, which is an additional 2.2 multiplier, thats 9,955 EXP. The problem? The angler requires fishing level 3 to be caught. The solution? Fish pods. Assuming a minimum of 50 can fit on the desert farm (and to be honest, its probably more) and all of them have super cucumber (stonefish/lava eel would be better, by 250 EXP, however they do not reproduce before quests because they have a base cap of one. Super cucumber base cap is 3, meaning we can take them out when they reproduce to repopulate other fish ponds without gaining any EXP.) With 50, we get 2000 by completing all of their quests instantly, which does count the first expansion quest. 2015 is enough to push us to level 4, but we'd only need (need to figure this out) fish pods to actually achieve this. With level 4 fishing and a 3 fishing buff, we take our bamboo rod and catch ms. angler, Son of Crimsonfish, glacerfish Jr, and radioactive carp, all with a treasure chest. This pushes us to 9,429 EXP, total. more than enough to catch Legend II. Once Legend II is caught, we turn in our quest, reunlocking both regular Legend and regular Mutant Carp, and additional 2 legendary fish. Catching all 3, with treasure chests, (and assuming an average quality of silver, which is +6 exp per) barely pushing us to 15,314 EXP total. Now, with the math out of the way to prove its possible, what is the chance it actually happens? Assuming that 1: the legendary fish is caught if it is pulled, because we're skilled, and 2: a chest is grabbed if it shows up, then the chance per reset is a whopping 1.8% assuming only 7 attempts total, one per fish. Realistically, you'd have closer to 15 attempts in a day, so nearing a 2.73% per attempt. 50 tries to get 10 fishing in a single day? Not too bad at all. While this is annoying to do, it is definately not impossible. Another option is to calculate the minimum fish ponds, which runs around 25. 25 gives us a start of 1000, enough for level 3, or 6 with our food. At the end we'd only be at 14,314 EXP or an additional 4 perfected treasurechested lava eels of iridium quality (iridium quality is 100% in zone 5 with a perfect, so no worries there). For every 5 fishing ponds we remove, we need to add 1 lava eel. This means, theoretically, it would be 9 lava eels and all 7 fish, which is much rarer than simply using the most fish ponds we can.
If you play multiplayer you can have someone level up their fishing to get crab pots, then a second person gets all the exp from crab pots in a single day This stays true to all the rules of the challenge
I think fishing COULD be possible, perhaps with max luck (2 lucky rings, magic rock candy, ginger ale, the Special Charm and max daily luck), Magic Bait and some good fishing gear/boosts? :D Great video, really creative. :)
@@complainer406 you don't have to wait for the level up notice to do that though. I don't know if there is a time where the ocean would be best for this, although it might be in summer, since it's usually the most profitable then, so that implies it's also where you find the higher exp fish. Then camp outside Willy's shop, keep an eye on your skill and run in and get the better rod the second it becomes available. That should give you the fiberglass rod fairly quickly giving you access to using bait. I don't know if this would really help, but at least it's definitely possible to get a baited rod during this experiment.
If you ever feel like revisiting this concept, I'd like to see you tackle what the shortest amount of time it would take to get Combat and Fishing to Rank 10.

@@octosaurinvasion Yeah, but in my currently oldest save game (about year 9, iirc), I still wouldn't spend 30,000G on seeds anymore (if at all; I make them myself with seed makers etc). I have animals and all that jazz, why would I need to spend 30,000G on seeds each season?

Nice video, Seanie, but I think there is a little room for improvement. Specifically, on fishing. Honestly, it depends on how you categorize your rules, so this may or may not work, but one thing you could try: Step 1: set up a multiplayer farm. Since there is no rule banning this, and it can very easily be accomplished on an actual farm, no problems yet. Step 2: have an alternate account or friend join, then have them level up fishing. This is where the semantics come into play. Technically, the 2nd player is gaining exp for fishing, so that might break the rules. But since the main player, who’s the one you are trying to max, isn’t getting exp, I could see this as fair game as well. Anyway, if step two isn’t breaking the rules, then Step 3: have player 2 gather crab pots. Crafting, buying, hacking them in legally, any of that works. Place and fill the crab pots. Then, with that, you can move on to Step 4: have player 1 collect everything. This alone might not be quite enough, but should get close enough that this combined with some fishing at optimal locations, may be enough to get you to level 10. Not sure if this breaks the rules or not, but figured that I would comment it here, just in case. Anyway thanks for providing the high level content, as it is always a fun question being answered.

easier way to get foraging: get the mushroom cave put the common mushrooms into seed maker which gives you fall wild seeds and once you have enough, plant and harvest them!
@Seanie Dew, there is a seed manipulation Haboo did on his 100% speed run to get a tiger slime egg from every fish pond with a lion fish in it. Fishing xp from ponds is based on sell price so you get a crazy amount of xp for this. I’m not sure if the lion fish is accessible without fishing though.

A method to gain fishing experience you didn't touch was fish ponds. Maybe if you use all possible space to build fish ponds, put fish obteined by the traveling cart in them and acumulate their missions and their roe, which give fishing exp it may be possible Edit: You can put beach foregables in the ponds, like oyster and coral

Foraging also could also been done using fall seeds. The mushrooms from the mushroom cave yield fall seeds in a seed maker. Granted you get 6 mushrooms a day on a good day, so per day you can get way more winter root, but it's still possible.
Intriguing problem solving. You can harvest truffles from horseback, which would give you more time to chop trees in Cindersap Forest. Only cut down the trees; don't bother with the stumps. And pick the Wild Onions. If you wanted to use the chair method, you could get into the Secret Woods and get mahogany seeds from killing slimes. You could plant those seeds in the quarry. Your method worked, so hats off to you. You just got me thinking of solutions to the truffle approach.
It bugs me soooooooo much because if he decided to collect the truffle on a non rainy day it would have been possible because as soon as the land is more clear more pigs will come out and dig out more truffle... NDKFIFRBW WHY NO ONE TOLD HIM THAT!!?!?!?
I think they would all be possible, sort of. They was a bug discovered where if you open up your menu at the moment you pass out it will stop you from passing out. Unfortunately every 10 minutes thereafter you have to do it again. However, if you do it all the way until 6am you character will stop trying to fall asleep. Now it wouldn't technically be one day, but you would get the satisfying menu pop up in one go. Good luck!
Holy heck! Thanks for this video! You gave me insight into two of my biggest issues in doing my hermit playthrough. The big one was combat on the farm. I set monsters to on with the beach farm, and was wondering why I wasn't getting experience from them. I was considering a slime hutch to see if that would work but you've confirmed it will not. Turns out they don't count toward kills for the adventures guild either. The second issue I was having was with the winter seeds (for the community bundle) - hadn't gotten the foraging drops I needed except for the Snow Yam and Winter Root. I had no idea that you could get them with the seed maker. Thanks again, and keep up the good work!
The foraging experience from chopping down a tree is 12 PLUS an extra 1 if you destroy the stump afterwards. Meaning you get a total of 13 per tree. You also can get a cap of 150 foraging experience from the Secret Woods from the Large stumps which give hardwood (6 stumps at 25 experience per).
Another approach to the foraging experience would be get the mushroom cave, collect common mushrooms for many days. Each common mushroom put into a seed maker can give 1-3 Fall seeds. Assuming a 1.5 seed packet from one mushroom that would be roughly 1500 mushrooms needed for 2250 seed packets. Then plant all the fall seeds in fall and harvest on a day to get the xp. The cave can give 2 - 6 common mushrooms per day so anywhere from 350 - 500 days of mushroom collection and sleeping (way more than the 60 days for winter root collection). Then plant in one or two days and then harvest all in one day like the winter seeds.

so idk if this is common knowledge or not but the light gray rocks in the mine give exp a very small amount but when rushing the mines its very useful to go for them only too get down as beneficially as posable
You can buy wild seeds from wandering trader, so after like 100 years in game you could probably get enough to harvest them all in one day... it's theoretically possible that way I think. You'd still need like 2178 seed packets or whatever though... There might be other ways to buy them - maybe at festivals?
What if you put the slime hutches on the wilderness farm? the wiki says that you gain exp from killing monsters on the wilderness farm, so maybe it might work?

The seed maker can with Wild Horseradish, Common Mushroom, and Winter Root.

Fish is absolutely possible in a single day. Its just RNG based, around a 2.3% chance per day, and would require a decent amount of resetting. But its possible.
First off, desert farm, 100 golden walnuts, rainy spring day, and extended family quest active, with high daily luck preferable but not required. Assuming high daily luck, our chances for a treasure chest in 21%ish, which are good odds. We have 7 legendary fish we can catch, all the extended family, and the original Legend and Mutant Carp. We cant catch the originals until we turn in the 5 extended family copies, but we should be able to do that before needing to catch the last two.
Catching all 5 legendary fish gives a base of 905, multiplied by 5 for 4525 EXP. If all of them come with a treasure chest, which is an additional 2.2 multiplier, thats 9,955 EXP. The problem? The angler requires fishing level 3 to be caught. The solution? Fish pods. Assuming a minimum of 50 can fit on the desert farm (and to be honest, its probably more) and all of them have super cucumber (stonefish/lava eel would be better, by 250 EXP, however they do not reproduce before quests because they have a base cap of one. Super cucumber base cap is 3, meaning we can take them out when they reproduce to repopulate other fish ponds without gaining any EXP.) With 50, we get 2000 by completing all of their quests instantly, which does count the first expansion quest. 2015 is enough to push us to level 4, but we'd only need (need to figure this out) fish pods to actually achieve this.
With level 4 fishing and a 3 fishing buff, we take our bamboo rod and catch ms. angler, Son of Crimsonfish, glacerfish Jr, and radioactive carp, all with a treasure chest. This pushes us to 9,429 EXP, total. more than enough to catch Legend II. Once Legend II is caught, we turn in our quest, reunlocking both regular Legend and regular Mutant Carp, and additional 2 legendary fish. Catching all 3, with treasure chests, (and assuming an average quality of silver, which is +6 exp per) barely pushing us to 15,314 EXP total.
Now, with the math out of the way to prove its possible, what is the chance it actually happens? Assuming that 1: the legendary fish is caught if it is pulled, because we're skilled, and 2: a chest is grabbed if it shows up, then the chance per reset is a whopping 1.8% assuming only 7 attempts total, one per fish. Realistically, you'd have closer to 15 attempts in a day, so nearing a 2.73% per attempt. 50 tries to get 10 fishing in a single day? Not too bad at all.
While this is annoying to do, it is definately not impossible. Another option is to calculate the minimum fish ponds, which runs around 25. 25 gives us a start of 1000, enough for level 3, or 6 with our food. At the end we'd only be at 14,314 EXP or an additional 4 perfected treasurechested lava eels of iridium quality (iridium quality is 100% in zone 5 with a perfect, so no worries there). For every 5 fishing ponds we remove, we need to add 1 lava eel. This means, theoretically, it would be 9 lava eels and all 7 fish, which is much rarer than simply using the most fish ponds we can.
If you play multiplayer you can have someone level up their fishing to get crab pots, then a second person gets all the exp from crab pots in a single day
This stays true to all the rules of the challenge
I think fishing COULD be possible, perhaps with max luck (2 lucky rings, magic rock candy, ginger ale, the Special Charm and max daily luck), Magic Bait and some good fishing gear/boosts? :D Great video, really creative. :)

@@complainer406 you don't have to wait for the level up notice to do that though. I don't know if there is a time where the ocean would be best for this, although it might be in summer, since it's usually the most profitable then, so that implies it's also where you find the higher exp fish. Then camp outside Willy's shop, keep an eye on your skill and run in and get the better rod the second it becomes available. That should give you the fiberglass rod fairly quickly giving you access to using bait. I don't know if this would really help, but at least it's definitely possible to get a baited rod during this experiment.

Nice video, Seanie, but I think there is a little room for improvement. Specifically, on fishing.
Honestly, it depends on how you categorize your rules, so this may or may not work, but one thing you could try:
Step 1: set up a multiplayer farm. Since there is no rule banning this, and it can very easily be accomplished on an actual farm, no problems yet.
Step 2: have an alternate account or friend join, then have them level up fishing. This is where the semantics come into play. Technically, the 2nd player is gaining exp for fishing, so that might break the rules. But since the main player, who’s the one you are trying to max, isn’t getting exp, I could see this as fair game as well. Anyway, if step two isn’t breaking the rules, then
Step 3: have player 2 gather crab pots. Crafting, buying, hacking them in legally, any of that works. Place and fill the crab pots. Then, with that, you can move on to
Step 4: have player 1 collect everything. This alone might not be quite enough, but should get close enough that this combined with some fishing at optimal locations, may be enough to get you to level 10.
Not sure if this breaks the rules or not, but figured that I would comment it here, just in case. Anyway thanks for providing the high level content, as it is always a fun question being answered.
If multi-player was allowed, perhaps monster musk and hardmode mines could work for combat? I don’t know but that could be worth a shot.

easier way to get foraging: get the mushroom cave put the common mushrooms into seed maker which gives you fall wild seeds and once you have enough, plant and harvest them!
@Seanie Dew, there is a seed manipulation Haboo did on his 100% speed run to get a tiger slime egg from every fish pond with a lion fish in it. Fishing xp from ponds is based on sell price so you get a crazy amount of xp for this. I’m not sure if the lion fish is accessible without fishing though.
You can get 10 levels of combat in one day by sacrificing enough children and killing their spirts (bats) in the witch hut

A method to gain fishing experience you didn't touch was fish ponds. Maybe if you use all possible space to build fish ponds, put fish obteined by the traveling cart in them and acumulate their missions and their roe, which give fishing exp it may be possible

Foraging also could also been done using fall seeds. The mushrooms from the mushroom cave yield fall seeds in a seed maker. Granted you get 6 mushrooms a day on a good day, so per day you can get way more winter root, but it's still possible.

Intriguing problem solving.
You can harvest truffles from horseback, which would give you more time to chop trees in Cindersap Forest. Only cut down the trees; don't bother with the stumps. And pick the Wild Onions. If you wanted to use the chair method, you could get into the Secret Woods and get mahogany seeds from killing slimes. You could plant those seeds in the quarry. Your method worked, so hats off to you. You just got me thinking of solutions to the truffle approach.

I think they would all be possible, sort of. They was a bug discovered where if you open up your menu at the moment you pass out it will stop you from passing out. Unfortunately every 10 minutes thereafter you have to do it again. However, if you do it all the way until 6am you character will stop trying to fall asleep.
Now it wouldn't technically be one day, but you would get the satisfying menu pop up in one go. Good luck!

Holy heck! Thanks for this video! You gave me insight into two of my biggest issues in doing my hermit playthrough. The big one was combat on the farm. I set monsters to on with the beach farm, and was wondering why I wasn't getting experience from them. I was considering a slime hutch to see if that would work but you've confirmed it will not. Turns out they don't count toward kills for the adventures guild either. The second issue I was having was with the winter seeds (for the community bundle) - hadn't gotten the foraging drops I needed except for the Snow Yam and Winter Root. I had no idea that you could get them with the seed maker. Thanks again, and keep up the good work!
The foraging experience from chopping down a tree is 12 PLUS an extra 1 if you destroy the stump afterwards. Meaning you get a total of 13 per tree. You also can get a cap of 150 foraging experience from the Secret Woods from the Large stumps which give hardwood (6 stumps at 25 experience per).

Another approach to the foraging experience would be get the mushroom cave, collect common mushrooms for many days. Each common mushroom put into a seed maker can give 1-3 Fall seeds. Assuming a 1.5 seed packet from one mushroom that would be roughly 1500 mushrooms needed for 2250 seed packets. Then plant all the fall seeds in fall and harvest on a day to get the xp. The cave can give 2 - 6 common mushrooms per day so anywhere from 350 - 500 days of mushroom collection and sleeping (way more than the 60 days for winter root collection). Then plant in one or two days and then harvest all in one day like the winter seeds.
This type of content is so great! Well worth all the effort it was so good!

You can buy wild seeds from wandering trader, so after like 100 years in game you could probably get enough to harvest them all in one day... it's theoretically possible that way I think. You'd still need like 2178 seed packets or whatever though...
There might be other ways to buy them - maybe at festivals?
What if you put the slime hutches on the wilderness farm? the wiki says that you gain exp from killing monsters on the wilderness farm, so maybe it might work?
