But when one of my great friends is afraid to wear her hijab to school because of what Donald Trump has said and my English teacher found one of my peers in the bathroom sobbing because she was scared of her parents being deported from the country it scares me

She teaches them fluency in English and about the Constitution. Both are good causes. She goes to marches. I've been with her.
But I'm afraid. If LGBT+ rights get worse, I might not be able to find housing or a steady job without repressing a part of myself. The same thing might happen to my mother and stepmother and sister as well. All of us fit under the LGBT+ label, and all of us are a little concerned about how things are going. I'm worried that my mother might be hurt because she "teaches illegals" or "provides for incoming terrorists" when all she's doing is helping respectable people who've left their own countries because this is a safer place to be. And I'm worried for those people, too. Will they be attacked? Will they be abused by society because they're not born Americans or because they have accents or aren't Christian? Those are stupid reasons to hurt someone.
I know it's childish, but I wish people would stop being afraid. I'm not afraid of people who can't speak English. I'm not afraid of people who aren't Christian or don't dress like me or think differently. I don't respect violent people but I wouldn't assume that everyone is violent.

You would be welcome in Canada. It's a pretty peaceful place, without that horrible racial divide in the States, no insane NRA gun laws, and yes we have single payer healthcare.
We have four seasons, just like you do, we speak English, not American, and while we have a lot in common we are different.
It's not perfect, but it is a slice of heaven. Particularly if you're coming from somewhere war torn, living under anarchy, or even the US. We don't mind welcoming others to our country, as many of us were immigrants at one time too.

But, given Trumps knack for upsetting people and being generally unprofessional I think the world might lose interest in America, and the vacuum that a subsiding american power leaves may be filled by Russia, China or NATO or even the EU which will leave to new layers of geopolitical tension.
