I was in Renmark from about 1967 to 1975 (until I was 10). We lived over the 21st St Bridge. It used to flood every year or two, as the embankment for the bridge used to wash out every time. We didn’t have a car, and it was a longer walk into town. I have been wanting to visit for many years and see how how much the town has changed. Your footage covered a lot of things I remember. Thank you. Hopefully everyone there can have a safe Christmas and new year.
You probably came to my parents carnival that we use to set up in the main street . I still tell stories of that filthy guy Jack cattermole with his disgusting food van lol
Great video and excellent drone footage. I live in Adelaide so I've seen news stories about the flooding but they are very brief. This type of footage gives us city dwellers a much more accurate view of just how widespread the flooding is. Thoughts are with everyone affected and we hope you still amage to band together and have a merry Christmas!
Thank you I really love filming drone photography 👍 yeah I hadn't seen anyone cover the entire renmark yet so I spent the entire day driving around filming
But when you get on g maps and look around you see very distinctly the flood plain. I saw an article on the ABC the other day about grape vine farmer with water flooding his grapes, and i see from these drone shots an industrial scale grape vine under water. And then i hear the "grape" industry asking for federal help. Its so stupid, look at the color of that beautiful water bringing them nice fertile soil. They even knew in ancient egypt on the nile that the river floods brought life. I dare say thie evaporation from this will help keep it moist across western victoria for weeks. As a nation we should be thinking big. We should have nuclear powered desal plants pumping trigaliters of water inland from the back of the hinterlad in Queensland keeping the whole Darling and lower murry sysytem like this full time. The fresh water when it runs out into the ocean even brings benefits, warmer water more evaporation better rainfall, etc.
Fantastic overview, we walk everyday from Paringa, used to be in the Paringa paddock which is now underwater! Your drone shots really explained the extent of the water incursion and the levees, wow. Thanks for wonderful work.
The paringa paddock is a beautiful walk especially when you spot the koala's. Drone photography is a huge passion of mine and I love including it in my videos
I live in WA and was in Renmark two weeks ago staying with my sister and brother in law, love the videos you are putting out as we hear nothing of the floods in South Australia. When we were there the level was at 1974, Ray has predicted the worse hasn’t reached you there. Ray has also had to move his house boat, he also said some mongrels are looting houseboats as the owners can’t get to them. Once again thank you for the update.
I feel bad for all the wildlife that has no where to go. We're going to lose a lot of wildlife and a huge clean up afterwards. Especially restoring our national parks
@@Campingdownunder it will be a very tough time, you're right. Sad. I hope the water level changes have occurred relatively slowly and there may be some different insects and vegetaion that can at least add to feed for the wildlife that can cope or move. The filming that I have seen of the flood effected areas shows a lot of green at least. Never seen inland Australia look so green! There was an ABC video showing the toxic blackwater that was occuring further back and killing off the murray cod. There are some trying to save the big old fish. They are catching them even in inundated wheat fields! I am on flooplain farmland on north side of Melbourne with a small river that floods often (not even vaguely the size of the Murray) . We did not get a monster flood this year, just a VERY large one and many medium ones, as well as overly wet paddocks. All just drying up now, and massively changes the ground and vegetation. Lot more bare areas than I expected. I can't see the Murray being an very nice place to camp for a bit. Things get a bit gross, covered in slimey debris and the mozzies etc take over. A good rain to clean up in the new year after the water drops would be perfect. Ultimately it is a better problem for the natural world than the extreme drought we had and will go back to, no doubt. (Depressing and lifeless). Good luck with it , and thanks for your efforts.
This is insane and thanks for going around and putting the drone up. I'm from Renmark but live in Sydney and my parents and family are still in the Riv. We're been seeing lots of posts and footage but this really demonstrates the scale of things. Would love to see more videos of other towns..
Thanks for the vid! I have fond memories of staying at the Riverbend caravan park as a kid with my parents in the cabins, watching boats go under the paringa bridge. Hard to comprehend how much water there really is!
Great video including the drone work and commentary. Good to see the significant and interesting (to me - ex Renmarkian) spots covered. That levee work is impressive!
Thanks. Amazing to see my home state has water. Esp from up here in wet tropics, where 100s of km flood most years. Be good to see growth of greenery afterwards. Meanwhile, get ready for rest of the water.. Good luck
Great footage mate, these drone videos are a great way to keep up how every town is holding up, keen to see the others. One suggestion, if you go to Cobdogla, check out the causeway road to the big pump station out near field and game, when we had a look last week there was about 2ft of water over the road and flowing insanely fast way out in the middle of it, you might see the flow from above if it's still going now.
Thanks for the great video. Have stayed at the Big 4 a few times and also had a houseboat at Paringa. Best of luck to all the residents, hope everyone gets through this ok.
Remarkable. As bad as it potentially may be (and let's hope it's not) the environment has needed it for a long time especially down in SA. Once the water eventually recedes it'll be the best place to camp in SA. Love the river.
I like your drone film of Renmark and the Big 4 Park, which is our favorite. We only hope the levy is high enough to do the job and save the cabins and powered sites.
G'day Mate. Love seeing the aerial view of all that water around Renmark but hope everyone is safe. I've only been there 3 times, but Great town and good folks. Looking forward to more videos.
For future viewers, the peak was 8 days after this. Not sure if he mentioned this, but at the time this was filmed, the river was at 180 gigalitres, and on the 26th (day of this comment), it would reach 190 (usually it’s around 60 gigalitres).
Love Renmark ❤ First holiday away from Adelaide when we got here 15 years ago. My kids spent many holidays at the Big4. We should all go up and spend out tourist dollars
Thanks for sharing I've got distant relatives that live there hope you guys stay dry. Reminds me of a Xmas long ago with Tracy in Darwin hopefully one left with out a home for Xmas. Take care Greg from Maryborough Qld
How have I bloody not seen your channel before, I'm a riverland local myself. When/ if you do a Waikerie/Morgan flood video let me know, got a lot of private river access available
My goodness it is certainly close to flooding that bridge you are standing in front of. I have been watching the flood waters encroach on the towns for the past 3 weeks & it is incredible the amount of water still coming down the river.
Solid video showing all the water around the area. Great drone work too 👍. Would love to see more of your adventure videos when you get out and exploring some more. In regards to making videos about other affected towns, go for it but make sure your safety is number one. Cheers legend 👌
Thanks guys 👍 I've still got around 5 adventure videos I still need to edit from my Perth trip when I get time 🤣 yeah I never go in the water past my ankles for safety & now that they've banned all water activities I can't even do that now. Have to stay right out of the water all together
It will definitely bounce back 👍 I'm looking forward to the campsites reopening. My whole channel is about camping. I normally camp every weekend around the riverland but the floods have put a stop to that
Thanks mate 👍 luckily pretty much most people in renmark are still safe and hopefully stays that way. It's still coming up more but hopefully our levvys keep holding the water back
It’s a lot of water and plenty more to come yet. More flows to come through the Darling as well. It’s going to be around for a few months yet. Hopefully levies will hold and nobody loses too much 🤞
Now for the second half. I've got under Paringa bridge when there was only just 2 m air height, and watched lock 5 underwater, with the navpass open. On that occasion, a small boat couldn't climb the water step, and the lockmaster put the boat through the lock, as the gates were worked hydraulically, not by electric motors. IIRC the 2010-2011 big water.
Thats just insane, Its going to be a good few months before it will be back to normal. But good vid to watch, But wondering where do you get ya music from there relaxing.
It is sad to see - But this is the local and state government allowing more and more building on normal ESTABLISHED flood plains. As you mentioned, built to the 56 flood levels. Encroaching more into the flood zones is only going to make the situation look worse. I lived and grew up in the Riverland and love the place - but sorry, this is just standard flood zones. If it does go higher than 56, so be it, the flood plains have been made smaller and smaller, so water levels are going to go up and around what's left. They knew this is 93. The Kingston on Murray causeway is the biggest damn wall built in the Riverland. Bert Dix park in Paringa has flooded several times as have the flood plains being Paringa caravan park and the sports ovall Before you buy and build, ask the insurance companies if they'll insure your block, if they say no don't buy, and if you do, don't whine about it getting flooded out
The river has been starved of water for so long. That must be contributing to the current spread. Can someone talk about reduced water volume, reduced erosion, reduced river depth leading to increased spread in events like this.
