Zombie Escape... what a blast from the past. I don't even want to know how many hours I sunk into that game mode in CS:S all the way back in 2007-2009.
the saving grace for the m249. All recoil is gone if you could just c o m m i t to standing absolutely still somewhere for many, many seconds. High risk. High reward. It'd make CSGO CoD tho but then again, MOUSE2 is a free space for the M249... maybe it's time to give every weapon a special ability like all scoped weapons, all suppressed weapons, the FAMAS and the glock. The bipod would be it for the M249. Wonder what all the other weapons would have... Old school full auto tec 9? Galil regaining its CSGO beta scope? MP9 retaking its position as spiritual successor to the TMP by getting a removable can?
The effect will be increased accuracy and reduced recoil size to makes it more managable. However you cannot move and prepariation for it takes a few second.
philip will there be a story about your character in Kingdom Come Deliverence? Just like you did with Ogrub story? Your recent video about the game inspired me to play it and I had so much fun playing it!
Valve seems to want the M249 to be a "strong open-area LMG" and so I think a fundamental rework of the gun is necessary, especially now that the NEGEV does not fill that role. I think the two ways to go about this are to make it a premium SMG-like weapon, or a premium AR-like weapon. The first is already taken by the P90, which nobody really uses because rifles are just better at that price point, so the AR-route looks promising. I think the draw should be this: 1-hit headshots for CTs, rate-of-fire for Ts. I think all this would require is setting damage and ROF at moderately higher than the best in each team's category: let's say 750 RPM, and 33 damage on armored bodyshot. But, as you said in your video, pricing is a problem between teams, and it's hard to encourage usability as a weapon you can take or re-take with at the same time as giving it good defensive capability, without either making the weapon outright overpowered or unjustifiable to buy over rifles. So we're at an impasse, but I think SlothSquadron's solution of team-exclusivity would work. This would let Valve meaningfully differentiate the M249 and the NEGEV, perhaps making the NEGEV a good weapon for suppression and hard-anchoring defense on CT side while giving the M249 power as a way to flush out CTs or lock down angles on a retake. I'm honestly not sure how you'd do this in a way that would make buying the weapon justifiable in the face of the AK47, but you could go the NEGEV route of tanking its price to rock-bottom and simply making it worse than the AK. The problem THERE is that I have no idea how you'd do this without just making the Galil or the UMP-45 fill its roles more effectively, and with different levels of pricing suitable to the team's current needs- this same exact thing has already happened to the NEGEV, which I almost never see used beyond a one-off desperation strategy or as a way to troll worse teams. I definitely understand why Valve refuses to touch the M249 (it hasn't exactly been a useable weapon in any other CS). But my wishful thinking tells me there's *some* role for non-standard weapons to fill in this game, beyond a point of mere economic necessity. With that in mind, I think you could reasonably price the current M249 at $1700, and nothing would really change.
Here would be my proposal to the M249 and the Negev, based on the weapons they represent irl: The way the irl Negev is built makes it so that the gun is extremely controllable (for an LMG/SAW mind you) at the cost of lowering its rate of fire substantially. Compared to that the M249 puts a lot more lead downrange, but is hard to control when firing long bursts standing upright. Thus, in game the M249 should have a very high fire rate (almost like the M4A4) als well as a terrific damage output, but with a harsh but controllable recoil pattern. Its roll would be that of an extremely expensive Super- rifle, able to shred an entire enemy team in seconds. Its cost should be so high, that buying it poses a rist to the teams economy, should it be lost. The Negev instead should have a lot less recoil (and maybe better movement accuracy) whilst also being far less lethal. Making the Negev a lot cheaper than the M249 would only further cement its role as a weapon used to surpress the enemy. It should work as an exelent tool for an outnubered CT player to defend a bombsite for as long as it takes their team to rotate by spamming lots of bullets at the enemy in order to keep them in cover. A small pool of reserve ammo would make it impossible to hold an area alone for too long, to keep it balanced In that way the two LMGs have their respective roles in the game: one is for shredding hostiles at mid- to- close range, the other one is for surpressing the enemy. But im just a silver player, so what do I know.
Or make it 15K, so you can get an armor+helmet and the gun, and whenever you kill somebody with it, an in-game announcer would shout ''YEET''. Proper trolling weapon, a lot better now.
I genuinely think something like 3.5k or 4k would be good. This gun if it wasn't priced so ridiculously high could actually be used as a really good close quarters gun, due to its high spray and pray potential along with the close quarters one shot headshot capability
I feel like the addition of a bipod mechanic that greatly reduces recoil and increases accuracy but at the cost of being stationary would be a good solution. It would distinguish it from any other gun and create a myriad of new strategies. It could even justify its current price and sit alongside the AWP as a powerful tool for defending sites.
I always tell my team we need to take advantage of the surprisingly low priced M249 . The amount of power and ammunition it lays down is devastating for the enemy team. All you need to do is learn the spray pattern and you have a weapon better suited for combat than the likes of the m4 and ak.
Make the Negev available only for the CTs and the M249 only for the Ts. The Negev is as good as it is but make the m249 a mix of rifles and smgs, i.e. slightly less damage than the rifles but with the run and gun accuracy of smgs
I think the devs accidentally gave the negevs intended recoil pattern to the m249 and haven't found out yet lol. Switching them would imo make the m249 well worth it's price. The role of machine guns for me is just area denial. You get 15 seconds solid stream of "don't you fucking dare walk through that door" before reloading, and unlike the molotov, it can be aimed and reloaded. Negev is better for me because it is more accurate
Good video mate. You should make a video on how bad the bots are in your comp teams because I feel like valve really needs to work on them whether it be making them always obey commands to making it so you can ping where they go on the map or even asking them for a buy/making them buy themselves something other than an m249...
Slightly reduce the recoil. It's fine to burst with but it's very hard to spray with in longer ranges. Also reduce the price to about $4000. Otherwise it's fine, the dmg, fire rate and armor pen is really good.
Ive spent time trying to learn the m259s recoil and if the slowed down the ramp up "reduced the distance between the shots" it would be hard but doable.
3750 would be a good price, it makes it so that it's a upgrade to the aug on defense, and on offense if you would like to rock something more powerful than the Krieg, you might want to do that as well. And armour plus m249 might be better than going glass cannon Awp, and it'd be nice to have a change in the meta :)
@@1vory1 It is not better than SG. SG has 100% armor penetration and a super long one shot headshot range. This gun should be ct side only. And yeah its Krieg
Honestly, I think it should be priced between the FAMAS and M4. Trying to balance it for the T side will always be a losing game, since at those prices it'll be attractive to both sides in the way you warned of at the end of the video. If you balance it for CT, as it most closely mimics those rifles, you end up with a slightly better FAMAS and significantly worse M4. $2700 makes the most sense to me. Above the FAMAS and below the M4, it's also the price of an AK. This will give it at least some defensive use on T side as an AK that trades power for ammo capacity (such as in hostage game modes). Further, it makes it appealing properly to the CT side. The accuracy of the M4 is a huge drawing factor, especially as your reach high levels of play. The only way to sell a gun that is less accurate by such a substantial margin is to price it below the rifles which overshadow it to such a degree.
The inherent design of CSGO does not really include the need of an Automatic Rifleman, thus having an automatic rifle is superfluous. Supporting fire is not a common tactic, where as shoulder peak instant head shots are more expected.
I still remember several years old conversations with teammates who were angry with me for buying the sg. Team: Why are you buying that shitty gun. Me: Because it’s better Team: No it’s not Me: what stats are better on the AK Team: the damage Me: the sg does more damaged against armored targets Team: The AK fires faster Me: No it doesn’t and the sg has a much better time to kill Team: the AK is easier to use Me: The sg has a simplified recoil pattern and a scope, so no the sg is easier. And it would just go on like that for however long it took them to realize they were wrong
honestly I've always drawn the comparison to the shotguns, as I feel it performs best when there is little distance for its joke of an accuracy to take place, but that begs the question of why instead you wouldn't just use a shotgun with really high kill rewards, and smg for the versatility, or the Negev bc its a beast but it takes a second to wind up and you cant move while using it edit: sorry forgot to mention if you're just using it for the one shot headshot potential then just pick up a deag or a scout which are both FAR cheaper
Considering the price of the Negev, and the role the LMGs seem to be fit for, maybe the M249 should be closer to where the Negev is in price, but the Negev's own price should be raised?
Suggestion for your videos: Think about another representation of those long charts, that you showed a couple times in this video. I've noticed, that I just stopped paying attention and took what you said at face value, because it was just too overwhelming. Maybe extract the columns and rows of interest? Reduce the info onslought :p? otherwise cheers dude, I'd totally publish your videos as academic papers, your critical analysis is marvelous
Personally, I like the direction slothsquadron went with it, and think it would be best to double down on that. With that, its a unique weapon with similar but distinct playstyle to the Negev and to rifles. You could possibly even decrease its accuracy and buff damage further, to make it more of a close-range spray-and-pray weapon, almost more comparable to the XM, but its always hard to tell what'd actually be balanced, and more importantly, fun.
TF2 brain kicking in and I feel like M249 could fill in multiple niches depending on what it can do. If you want it to be a spray and pray weapon, a weird quirk it can have is maybe no slowdown while moving or have it be low accuracy, but no running inaccuracy, make it a weapon that pushes into defenses compared to the Negev that stops offenses
As a master Guardian player who mains negev and m249 (yes we exist) I would like to point out that negev is the best for CT and m249 is the best for T. This is due to CTs not needing to be on the move that much, the CT can pretty much ignore the negev's slow movement speed but for T on the other hand, they require a lot more movement, therefore they require m249 which will allow them to move faster. Sometimes, there are pub players that are open to having 5 full negev/m249 on the same round and it actually works. Even for some people that are annoyed of me (and my friend) buying the negev for every round, they would finally join us buying the negev and mostly, when that happens we probably would win the round. The m249 is extremely wasteful and I can't buy it every round but given I had a lot of training on them(on ranked), it would be a good weapon for me, depending on the situation ofcourse. With that said though, I'm no where near a pro-level of player. I'm just your standard ranked pub player. Cheers! Edit: I've stopped playing csgo for months already so I would be unaware if there's any change to it so please take it as just an opinion from me.
I think the Negev change was good. The m249 should be changed to work like the Negev just in its own way as a CT weapon. And the Negev T. I like that idea.
I think one might expect the LMGs to have some very manageable recoil compared to the rifles. i'd say the weapon should be optimized for area denial and wallbanging, which would give them some utility on the T side. Consider that the awp and autos both have some great capacity for wallbangs.
This gun helped me to to turn a game around around and win two times. And it was not a simple hold m1. It actually has a fine spray, if you get used to it.
Jokes and memes aside $4k seems reasonable to me, however as long as we're talking pricing the Negev should be at least$2.5k, $1.7k is just way too cheap for that kind of firepower
Negev is OP if you know how to use it. Just crouch everytime you shoot and the accuracy is instantly like a laser. It takes practice to press the crouch button as a reflex though, but when you master it it's OP.
The negev is the losing team's troll weapon, while the m249 is the winning team's troll weapon.

With that in mind, I think you could reasonably price the current M249 at $1700, and nothing would really change.
silvers use the p90. source: am silver
Nah man. It should be less than the Negev which outclasses it in literally every scenario..
I know this is a meme but I do feel Philip glossed over the importance of armor penetration (which the m249 is better at), especially in mowing groups
1:51 - Hitting me where it hurts man
Here would be my proposal to the M249 and the Negev, based on the weapons they represent irl:
The way the irl Negev is built makes it so that the gun is extremely controllable (for an LMG/SAW mind you) at the cost of lowering its rate of fire substantially.
A small pool of reserve ammo would make it impossible to hold an area alone for too long, to keep it balanced
In that way the two LMGs have their respective roles in the game: one is for shredding hostiles at mid- to- close range, the other one is for surpressing the enemy. But im just a silver player, so what do I know.
this is actually brilliant
As a fellow silver I can agree with turning the m249 into the ultra rifle it was destined to be.
Or make it 15K, so you can get an armor+helmet and the gun, and whenever you kill somebody with it, an in-game announcer would shout ''YEET''. Proper trolling weapon, a lot better now.
Valve has made some embarrassing buffs so I think it wont happen bcz they're scared that it will turn into the buff AUG and buff Tec-9
Heavier guns have less recoil irl compared to lighter same caliber guns its a common misconception that heavier guns are harder to control
I actually buy the m249 when we are winning so much that we hav extra cash at the end of the half
Yes,i do that stupid thing too cuz we have too much money
I genuinely think something like 3.5k or 4k would be good. This gun if it wasn't priced so ridiculously high could actually be used as a really good close quarters gun, due to its high spray and pray potential along with the close quarters one shot headshot capability
I feel like the addition of a bipod mechanic that greatly reduces recoil and increases accuracy but at the cost of being stationary would be a good solution. It would distinguish it from any other gun and create a myriad of new strategies. It could even justify its current price and sit alongside the AWP as a powerful tool for defending sites.
Would be good on CT side

Hostage Rescue maps: Am I a joke to you?

Me: Because it’s better
Team: No it’s not
Me: what stats are better on the AK
Team: the damage
Me: the sg does more damaged against armored targets
Team: The AK fires faster
Me: No it doesn’t and the sg has a much better time to kill
Team: the AK is easier to use
Me: The sg has a simplified recoil pattern and a scope, so no the sg is easier.
And it would just go on like that for however long it took them to realize they were wrong
honestly I've always drawn the comparison to the shotguns, as I feel it performs best when there is little distance for its joke of an accuracy to take place, but that begs the question of why instead you wouldn't just use a shotgun with really high kill rewards, and smg for the versatility, or the Negev bc its a beast but it takes a second to wind up and you cant move while using it
edit: sorry forgot to mention if you're just using it for the one shot headshot potential then just pick up a deag or a scout which are both FAR cheaper
I love this thumbnail
Considering the price of the Negev, and the role the LMGs seem to be fit for, maybe the M249 should be closer to where the Negev is in price, but the Negev's own price should be raised?

“I shot a wall with various different weapons”
The greatest American pastime
slower fire rate and more damage
for zombies, that is
Had slower cycle time than Negev and lower base damage. Would need Negev nerfs or no reason.
If you want it to be a spray and pray weapon, a weird quirk it can have is maybe no slowdown while moving or have it be low accuracy, but no running inaccuracy, make it a weapon that pushes into defenses compared to the Negev that stops offenses
everyone: Happy new year
philip and his fanbase: is the M249 op?

Quick answer: yes, change the recoil pattern. It sways to the side like it's a boom in a ship. Otherwise it's fine

@@BarraIzzul setting the price to just above a rifle wouldn't turn it into an smg
I think one might expect the LMGs to have some very manageable recoil compared to the rifles. i'd say the weapon should be optimized for area denial and wallbanging, which would give them some utility on the T side. Consider that the awp and autos both have some great capacity for wallbangs.
