2003 Chevy Gauge Cluster Repair

In this video we take a quick look at replacing the steppers in this 2003 Chevy Gauge Cluster. Many of these clusters are similar and not difficult to repair. The main issue people have with these is simply not de-soldering correctly. Completely de-soldering is more than half the battle and could save you a lot of headache. It is also best to mark or tape the starting point or Zero position with tape etc. before removing the needles. Since this one had already been worked on and removed at least once, I decided to set these close to what I remember my 2004 being set close to. Hope it helps and Thanks for Watching!

Very helpful video! Are the steppers the same for the temp gauge, speedometer, and tachometer? Or do they use different ones?

Great video but I was told that when you pull the cluster outand when you put it back in you have to take it to the dealership to get them to reset the security

I don't know about some models. The 2003-2004 do not, I have done several of these. I have run into a security issue on a 2010 Honda radio, it sucks...but I made a video for the reset at least!

has anyone removed the odometer from the motherboard? i am trying to take mine off my old cluster and put it in the new one, but it seems like each little pin has to be de-soldered and it just seems impossible to take off

Thanks for your kind comment. I recommend putting it up in the dash and plugging it in to try before fully assembling if you can. I was almost certain mine was aligned properly and gave it back to my friend to install. Ended up it was good to go. If uncertain where the zero was before hand on the gauges I would just double check it by connecting it up before putting the cover back on.
