The real star of the Gorby interview was the interpreter, Pavel Palazchenko, whose simultaneous interpretation was smooth and flawless, and enabled the interview to whizz along naturally with lots of banter, humour and interplay. Anyone who's studied interpretation, as I did many, many years ago, will really appreciate the interpreter's skill.
What a brilliant man Gorbachev was, I'm of the generation who can remember those talks taking place. All he wanted was peace and harmony (any man who loved his wife like he did, you know will ba a good 'un), the complete polar opposite to the current leader. RIP Mr Gorbachev

Mr. Gorbachev, he was my hero honestly . I remember after their first meeting Margaret Thatcher was asked what she thought of him and she replied 'I actually like Mr. Gorbachev, he seems to be a man we can do business with, unlike any other Soviet leader we have ever encountered'. OK he didn't get everything right but which politician ever has? I was a bit shocked though to hear that "The Peacemaker" actually approved of Putin annexing Crimea though especially since just before he (Gorbachev) came to power that he told the (Then) countries under the Eastern Bloc which were basically Soviet satellite states, ( i.e. Bulgaria, Romania etc .) that the days of interference by The Soviet Union were over. He's suddenly gone very quiet though Now that evil bastard Putin is doing his best to destroy Ukraine. I wonder what he thinks about that? Undoing everything that he and Ronald Reagan achieved all those years ago
Gorbachev was willing to let go concerning Eastern European countries all around the world above all he was concerned about the cost representing the red army staying everywhere but he also was very clear concerning Soviet Union itself: it was to continue in his view, he never wanted to let it disappear, he understood perfectly well that it was difficult to enforce it regarding the nationalists movements especially in the baltic lands and in caucasus though he saw no need in dissolving the union of then very close countries: belarus, russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, even maybe other central asian countries like Kirghizistan and Tadjikistan... so i don't really feel surprised that he also thought russia and Ukraine ought to be united even more concerning Russian speaking areas or leaning to russia regarding culture as Crimea used to be!
"Gorby" prevented the former 'USSR' from near civil war. But failed to unite it under so-called 'democracy'. Still. Noble Peace Prize! What have YOU done lately to change the world? Hmm?
He lets peoples go where they wants to be, even in capitalist state, he refused to provoc death, is that why he is a peace men, if he wasnt it would be passed like in china = 10 k dieds, but gorbatchev wont, cause wasnt like this false socialist chinese state, even if ussr wasnt a pure communist model, was more human than period passed before
