I have the Grizzly and the trick to avoid front wheel spin is to start from a stand still on the rear motor only. Once you’re rolling, switch to both motors. It carries me up steep hills at 30 mph and I weigh 265 lbs.
Offroad climbing is best suited for a low geared setup, so motors can turn freely, without amping up and overheating. Geared hubmotors will NOT last long riding in this style you demonstrated. Gears subject to strip, and motor winding damage imminent…I love low pressure fatbike tires for the traction they provide, and the smoother ride! I live in the hills, remote, so I built a 26” fatbike frame, with a low standover, harley seat, and a gearless 1000 watt hubmotor with double gear reduction(jackshaft). 8 mile an hour, flat out….but I can pull and climb all day long without any heat…and direct drive means I can utilize regen for braking. I’ve been using it to skid 12 ft green logs out of the bush…no problem😀
Shifting the rider's weight forward will also reduce front wheel spin. There is also a setting in the controller to reduce "ramp up rate" of power applied to the wheels.
@@AdamSwords It varies by controller type, but they all have it. Some call it delay, or other names. They all do the same thing. They adjust it so that high power isn't instantly put to the motor.
The Grizzly is actually over 3500 watts peak (1850 each motor) I learned to ease into the throttle or the front tire wears out quick on the Grizzle. And the batteries only run one battery at a time. It will default to the rear if both are on. You probably drained the battery out on that climb because it should of carried you up even that incline. I'm very surprised bikes haven't begun going dual motor after the success of the Grizzly. Most high performance scooters are dual motor right now. Imagine the speed of ebikes with 3000 watt motors. I think the reason bikes like the Surron don't is the weight of a motor in the from would limit kids doing wheelees. And my Grizzly never gets old, I'd never ever downgrade to an X class. When I change the switch to ride one motor if i need to preserve power I never last long on it. The reason you have 2 batteries is to make sure you don't run out of power. The extra weight can be illuminated by just carrying one battery by removing one.
I have an AR D-Class. It's the baby brother to the Grizzly. It's plenty fast and powerful with dual 750W motors for my first bike. Do wish it had a rear suspension and 52V battery.
I have a AWD Wallke and I was annoyed that the front motor doesn’t kick in 100% power until a few seconds. However, after watching this, I know why! Great video!
sweet, im buying a E/bike soon and wanted to see what trails are in O.C. where I could ride mountain bikes too. but for sure when I get my new E/bike. thanks man.
Great footage and cool bikes. Usually there's a setting for soft-start so you don't spin out the front wheel. I'm thinking of adding a front motor to compliment my 1kw rear. Thinking fully independent systems is best.
I feel like Grin Technologies would have something that would temporarily delay or weaken the front motor, to prevent that annoying burnout. Like an adjustable ramp up for the front compared to the rear or something. Not only is that destroying the front tire. But that may also make you fall accelerating out of a tight corner. If I was to build a dual motor ebike, the front would be like 500watts, and the rear 1000, or, I'd use a Cycle Analyst from Grin to limit the Amps of the front motor, because of the linear relationship between torque & amps. Less Amps, less torque, same voltage top speed, and maybe a throttle signal bypass, to go around the CA, a direct throttle signal to act like a boost button.
Yeah adjusting the power curve for the front would be great. Essentially keep it at 25% power up to 5mph, then slowly ramp up the percentage after that until say 20mph.
For hunting here in Nevada I got an E-CELLS Super Monarch Crown e-mtb. 2 wheel drive, 2 batteries, dual suspension, 2.3 mm thick brake rotors, 9 torque sensor assist levels, ROK SHOX shocks, Shimano Deore gearing, Samsung batteries. AND all for $5,100. Compare that to the way overpriced RAMBO Megatron at over $7,000.!

That front tyre looks 1/4 gone after all that wheelspin. LoL. Great review. Great content. Laughed as many times as you did Adam. Lots of love from Australia. Abs.
Fun stuff. I just ordered a dual motor Fabulous EMX Extreme. I don't think I would like those stationary seats, and being above 750W takes it above the legally recognized ebike category in most states. Furthermore, I would guess it is the additional wattage causing it to overheat. Here in Alaska people not only use them for commuting but hunting and fishing.
my seeker 26 has some kind of soft start.. on a gravel road and low speed and full throttle i can make the front wheel make a tiny burnout . but on normal road its not spinning up
I have a Grizzly, I'll never buy a bike that's not awd again... Not just for the speed, I've been in snow and sand going slow and just couldn't go where I've gone with single drive
I have an Onyx as well, main ride. My play bike is a Surron. I did try the dual motor Ariel and it performed poorly on trails. It felt so weird, the weight distribution was odd. You should do an off road, side by side with a Talaria or Sur, both 3k mid drives.
That looked like a lot of fun! I was worried that with the added power from the dual motors that you could easily lose control and zip over the edge of the hills. Thankfully, you are an expert rider.
