    Mr Chan the trunk on that Japanese White Pine is beautifully massive and a pleasure to look at and study. It almost as if every time I look at that Trunk I see something new and unique....superb tree sir....just magnificently beautiful !
    Also thanks so much for the quick tutorial on pruning both of those varieties of conifer.

    That lime green new growth color is my favorite color! Verdant = lively... Viridis = Green (root word from Latin)
    There aren't many English words using this as a root, and they all come from the 1400s - 1500s and after... its almost like people didn't know what Green looked like until they went into the Rainforest.
    Viridescense: the quality or state of being green (this word was coined in the 1800's and still nobody uses it haha)

    • @Robert_McGarry_Poems
      @Robert_McGarry_Poems 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can easily over water pine if the drainage is not good. They do not like having soggy roots. When they get overly root bound, that can make drainage worse. Conversely, no tree likes being too dry. Again, an overly bound root ball can cause dry spots to form. Dry spots do not absorb water and roots can dry out. Either way, it sounds like a problem with either the roots themselves or just the drainage. Remember to keep some of the active fungus around the main root stock.

    • @peterchan3100
      @peterchan3100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be problems with the root. Without seeing the tree it is hard to diagnose

    Beautiful Big Tree!! 🤩 I have a question for Peter but would welcome any reply. This work was done in July. My Austrian Pine needs similar work for it’s initial styling. Frankly, I’ve been afraid if my timing is off that I’ll kill it. Was this 5 needle in summer dormancy? Now it’s late September. Here in dry Colorado, we are moving into fall quickly. (84°f daytime - 39°f last night) Have I missed my opportunity to start on this tree this year and should wait till early spring pre-flush? Thanks in advance Peter & community! 🌲

    When you explain cutting shoots back halfway to force bud back those needles that are cut in half form a browned tip. That can be avoided if you have your pruners cut where the needles are attached to twig.
    This may be sacrificial but i think it affects the aesthetic value. JMO

      He uses fertilizer, I believe he uses slow release. Since he waters with hose. Two applications per season, just before the spring bloom, and mid summer before the late season growth. You can also feed every time if you don't have many trees. A dilute 20-20-20 fertilizer in the water. With two or three full strength applications during full growth.

    Where he cut the little shoots in half on the white pine was ridiculous, he might as well have just cut them off, because white pine will not throw new candles from a branch that has been pruned at the tip......that's why you only break a white pine candle in half before the needles open......don't remove the tip completely. ..
