Good video. Once the cluster is out of the car is there a way to simply take the clear lens off the cluster ? Mine needs replacing but ! I dint want to replace my oem one I'd rather repair mine with a new clear lens as mine as some damage. Cheers

Remove the glass: Remove the four screws from the underside, turn over the unit so that the back side is facing down, take hold of the sides and press in the catches with your fingers.
      Important
Exercise great care. Do not touch the needles on the main instrument unit under any circumstances. This could cause faulty readings or damage the stepping motors.

Do you know how to remove the needles of the gauges on a 1997 Saab 900SE? Just pull off or rotate in reverse direction until loose? Thank you!

Why you want to remove the needles?

@@saabmastertech5852 My entire cluster is often losing power and I thought I could look at the other side of that circuit board and maybe find the problem. But, after very carefully removing the needles with a fork, I found it very difficult, maybe impossible, to take it apart further without breaking something. I think I will look somewhere else, like the wiring.

Does the car start when loosing power at the instrument cluster. If not, problem is from ignition switch.

@@saabmastertech5852 Thank you, the car starts and runs as normal. I think I will check where the cluster is grounded.

Yes, you will need Tech2 to program the cluster. Or else the car will not start.

Hey man. I'm just trying to remove my dash instrument cluster. Do have to take EVERYTHING off like you did or can I just remove the cluster by not removing so much

      1. Remove the Air vent, panel, driver and Centre air vent, panel.
      2. Remove the infotainment control panel (ICM).
      Important
Take care when releasing the locking mechanism on the connector so as not to damage the connector. Pull the halves straight apart to avoid bending the pins. For further information regarding connectors, refer to Connectors, handling and inspection.
      3. Remove the SID unit control panel (SIDC) by pressing together the two tabs on the back and then pressing out the control panel from behind, starting at the top.
      4. Remove the instrument plate.
      Important
Take care when releasing the locking mechanism on the connector so as not to damage the connector. Pull the halves straight apart to avoid bending the pins. For further information regarding connectors, refer to Connectors, handling and inspection.
      5. Remove the main instrument unit and remove the connectors for the main instrument unit.

What year is that Saab? My rpm gauge is the only gauge that does not work the others do that are in that cluster. Right now it just sits with car off at just above 6 rpms.

You can put the air vent back together, if it came apart while removing. Hope, you did not lose the spring.
