Magic The Gathering Collector Booster Box:
In secret, Sauron forged a booster-one far more powerful than those owned by Elf, Dwarf, or Man. In this Collector Booster, Sauron sealed away the most incredible cards to grace Middle-earth: foils, Showcase cards, Borderless cards, and more. Who knows what these cards could do in the wrong hands? At least with you, we know they’ll look great.
Contents:
12x Magic: The Gathering - The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth Collector Booster which contains 15 Magic: The Gathering cards and 1 Traditional Foil double-sided token, with a combination of 5-7 cards of rarity Rare or higher and 3-5 Uncommon, 3-6 Common, and 1 Land cards. Every pack contains a total of 8-10 Traditional Foil cards.
Will you find the 1 ring ? The one ring to rule them all.

Seeing you get excited for 1 dollars cards and nearly completely skip over 30 dollars cards because you don't know what you're looking at is peak entertainment.
I love watching him getting tired of tokens/lands that are worth more than most of the commons and will actually sell as people want them
It’s so frustratingly funny😂
Honestly Max, as someone deep in the weeds when it comes to Magic, it's really refreshing to see someone enjoying the cards without sounding like an accountant. 😅
same here havent played in months though lol
It’s the same with pokemon and other card sets, 99.9% of trading card channels don’t give a shit about any of the stuff the open or show on their channels. It’s all about views and money to them. Also, that in turn skyrockets prices of cards because of the little five year olds and wannabe “ebay business CEO’s” who buy up and open all of the old sets and open it like they are in endless supply and bring so much attention to new sets that they become unaffordable to the target audience which are the kids that they are supposed to be marketed too. Fuck dude it pisses me off.
I KNOW RIGHT?! Every single one of the Magic booster openings is all about the money, the investment returns for them.
Motherfuckers, it's cardboard with glitter on it. The only one making bank out of MTG is Hasbro you dunces.
I can't STAND the state of MTG magic content. The professor is the main offender. He claims to love magic but trashes it every chance he gets, not realizing he's part of the problem buying so much product driving up the demand for a game made for 13 yr olds.
@@RedRumOnE magic isn't for 13 yr olds, it's always been catered to adults and teens. also the professor advocates to not buy product and to instead buy singles. He only trashes the greedy corporate aspects of the game, and trust me no 13 yr old can afford to buy sealed products.
If you don't find the card you should buy it, that would be funny i think
Facts
if max sold the funkos he could probably afford it
Yo DD-man wassup homie
In any other case I would agree but 2 Millon sounds like a lot to buy a card for.
I'd pay 2 million for the missing Japan vlogs
I hope Max does more of these and ends up pulling the serialized ring. He's the only person alive who I truly believe would go throw it into a volcano just for the meme
God one can only pray
Some little kid could get it and no one would ever know . A one off card was high key a horrible idea .
Turns out it was very close to me lol already found
the reason you can't instantly tell which cards are the most expensive is because in magic the majority of the time the price is about its effectiveness in the game
that's me picking up pokemon facts from him opening packs and having to explain that no, I don't actually collect, play or engage with pokemon in any form - i just watch an Australian man yell about the cards as he opens them.
flashbacks of fatal push..
Yeah but this value has nothing to do with the fact that it is a good card. It's the fact that it's a collector item and the 2 million is not just a random number. He picked that's the highest bid currently going for whoever pulls the card
Well that’s just stupid
And often those cards will crater in value the moment they rotate out of the “standard” sets, or cards/deck they enable rotate out
Massive respect to max, checking the price for all those cards must’ve taken forever
I work at a card store and this set has been our best seller. The sheer amount of money spent on this set is crazy🤦♀️
Btw, the ring card is seeded into the collector's packs🙏 so I've been told
@@shoneyjoseph6866it’s most likely specifically seeded in the gift bundles and probably hasn’t even been released into the wild yet. they are just trying to drive sales. wizards of the coast kinda sucks ngl

Personally i believe it will play out exactly like the mcdonalds million dollar monopoly pieces played out in the beginning. The security company in charge stole the monopoly pieces and a worker sold them to people he knew. With the value of this ring card. There is just absolutely no possible way it hasnt been stolen.

I’m almost out of highschool by 1 year would I count
@henkdachief such a nice young man, he use to do cosplays back in the day too!
I absolutely love the idea that it was already opened by some random kid who can't possibly know what hes founds and it will just sit there and never be publicly seen. Idk how things will turn out but the idea of a true 1 of 1 card being pulled by some little kid who just likes the pictures on the cards is lovely.
If anyone is curious about the financial viability of this, I did a full breakdown on the video. Please note this is all in USD. Any card worth less than $2 is NOT included, as selling them is a pain in the ass, no one wants bulk.
Currently a pack of this set is $42. I believe Max cracked 38 packs (3 boxes, 3 box toppers, not sure about the other 2 packs?) So in total he would’ve spent $1,596. Only 4 of those 38 packs managed to break even, and ultimately Max opened $805 worth of cards, losing a total of $791 on the packs.
Take this as a warning, this is high risk gambling, no one should be doing this if you don’t go in accepting that you will lose money. Odds of making money or breaking even on this set is terrible.
For those interested;
Box 1 (+Topper) - -$178
Box 2 (+Topper) - -$329
Box 3 (+Topper) - -$211
And he lost $74 on packs 13 and 14.
If anyone notices any issues lmk.
I know it’s been a year but thanks for doing the math
Hi Max, MTG nerd here. So, the full arts that are labeled prerelease and bundle are for two other products: The pre-release kits that contained one of those additional promos and the bundles which contain the Frodo, Samwise, Smegol, and The One Ring that go together into the art collages. WOTC printed them all on the same sheet, so in collector boosters you get those cards as well.
Hope you open more MTG in the future, pulls were pretty spicy tbh.

The rarity you can see on the set symbol, black and white means common, silver means uncommon, gold means rare, and orange means mythic rare, but value comes mostly from how playable they are so you can have an expensive uncommon and a shit mythic.
And yeah normal packs usually have 10 commons, 3 uncommons, and 1 rare that has a chance of being a mythic rare, the collector boosters they just fill with whatever shit they want

Max should film himself researching card prices after he does the opening. So when a rare car pops up that he doesn't know, we can get him screaming and calling himself an idiot for not knowing.
Also the whole thing with the mythics is, in regular packs, they're sometimes a hell of a lot rarer than they are in the collector packs. I say sometimes because sometimes some sets have a ton of mythics.
And a card being mythic rare isn't just about how rare it is, its also how good the card tends to be in game. They don't always succeed, but wizards of the coast tries to make mythic rare cards have the best effects and abilities.
The cheap Gandalf and Frodo mythics mean those specific mythics aren't nearly as good in game, which youre more likely to see in the collector booster box. Where mythics really start getting cool is in both the regular set and draft booster boxes.
The odds of the One Ring ending up in Australia are pretty large, considering that it's the Mordor of New Zealand.

True about 0.0000004291% in a common 6/49 +1 LOttery
What are the odds that someone in the printing factory has already stole the ring?
My biggest gripe with magic has been the ridiculous amounts of variants for each card. Regular, borderless, foil, foil borderless, special frame, special frame foil, special art, I'm sure there's more, it's just too much. If someone can open an entire box of your product and not have at least a general understanding of what the types of possible cards are of pulling then you've gone too far.
Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty did things right, then it gradually got more and more unnecessarily confusing with each new set. I remember taking one look at the Phyrexia: All Will Be One card graph and saying: Wtf is this shit?
Personally I like that there are so many foils and rarity things, it helps keep prices down for cards since collectors will buy packs and sell the extra stuff, so as a player it makes singles stay somewhat cheap.
It's such a pain that many store owners don't bother carrying new singles.
Its for collectors, I as a player love this because collectors will open various product and cause the price of the regular art cards to plummet thus making the game easier to get into
Yeah i only proxy nowadays cuz wizards are a terrible company imo
my first thought, imagine a kid being the one to pull the ring, or someone who somehow doesnt know how rare that is, and it just never gets "found"
getting the ring is likely with Max's ridiculous luck lol
Maybe it’ll become the new Rainbow Charizard
The P is to signify that those cards were available as pre release promo’s.
There’s so many mythic’s and foils because it’s a collectors box, in a set booster box of 36 packs you’ll generally get 1 foil per pack and maybe 4 mythics in a box.
Promos* mythics*
I was wondering how there were so many foils!...are collectors boxes still available?
I like how he priced even the common and uncommons. Lmao. That's so much work. Props!
Commons and uncommons are sometimes worth the most. I don't think he priced it in the video, but the full art holo bats are almost 5 USD as of now because how nuts it is in a Commander game.
He didn’t do it.
@TheodoreDonaldKerabatsos Oh ok. My bad. He used to do it I'm guessing. I only just started watching his stuff.

As someone raised playing MTG and also a frequenter of this yelling Australian man's content, I would absolutely love seeing more MTG openings, it's refreshing seeing someone excited about cool cards rather than just price tag
12:46 Max never ceases to make me laugh 😂
Tip for telling rarities in MTG for future stuff. The symbol on the middle right of the card is colored based on rarity. Black/White symbol = common. Silver = Uncommon. Gold = Rare. Orange = Mythic. The symbol itself is different based off what set release the cards are from as well.
People spammed that last MTG video and he still hasn't picked it up. Don't bother
Reviving the Big Nutt might have helped.

FYI the one ring won’t be found in a collector booster box, they put it in a different special bundle and delayed its release date to make sure it isn’t found early. They figure most people will hear about the one ring but not know enough about the whole situation to know that it’s basically impossible to pull.

Speculation seems to be that the 1 of 1 ring won't even show up in these collector boosters that are going for $500+. There is another product coming out in a few weeks that contain a few normal packs, where there is no chance to pull the 1 of 1, but also 1 collector pack like the ones from what Max is opening. Those were originally supposed to retail for less that $50, but now are going for $300+. It would make zero sense for Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast to release such a product, weeks after this one, with insanely higher mark up when the 1 of 1 ring had already been pulled. Wizards and Hasbro did something similar with the 1 of 500 Ragavan, a very desirable expensive card, rom a previous set by funneling that exact serialized card to one of their number one partner in the secondary marketplace. It was set up to get pulled before actual release to help generate extra excitement, drive clicks and engagement, and set an extremely overvalued price ceiling. Wizards of the Coast have participated in many similar types of manipulation over the years, so buyer beware.
Was going to say this, thanks for saving me the typing lol
They’re not making any more money one way or the other. Resellers would, sure. Not hasbro. And there is more than one card that has a serial number.
@@Carl_McMelvin If you think Hasbro doesn't profit when RETAIL box prices rise, I hate to break it to you, but you are very wrong.
First off, the whole reason that WotC wiped suggested retail pricing years ago is so that they could directly profit from their products immediately selling at a higher price point than what was MSRP at the time. You do realize that one of the largest sellers of Magic online is Amazon, right? You know those prices are on Amazon adjusted with the market and booster, collector, set, etc prices are moved with the market to ensure they are roughly always 5% to 10% or so less than products found on TCG player/Ebay/Etc. Well you know WotC/Hasbro runs that store, right? So there is already one place where you were mistaken.
Secondly WotC will inflate prices on secondary and subsequent restocks on products to distributors to directly reflect the upswing of market prices due to value and demand. Once MSRP was abolished WotC had more room to negotiate not only set to set and product to product with distributors, but shipment to shipment. Many distributors have felt as if some hot products had parts of their initial sell through reduced in order for Wizards to shift more product to the secondary or subsequent restocks in order to fluff profits even further.
For my third point, not the last because there are more, but just to make sure you understand what you are talking about. WotC always profits from higher sales prices even if not directly through the previously listed 2 methods. Raised prices means raised secondary market value and raised reprint equity. Wizards strategically manipulates how many ties some desirable rares and mythics appear on sheets to drive prices on highly desirable cards. This leads to increased profits in a multitude of ways. First people buy more product, which would mean more secondary, tertiary, etc restocks they can directly alter prices on like mentioned above. It also build critical reprint equity through this somewhat artificial card value. They constrain the supply to sell more on the front end which means increased prices on the backend for singles pricing. It is this exact method that allows them to even produce the wildly profitable reprint sets they do ever year from Modern Masters era up to now by building reprint sets to sell at retail that wouldn't have been able to exist without these manipulations of the market.
Hope that helped clear a few things up for you. Have a great night.
The P is for Promo, Those are Pre-Release Promos. You normally get one if you go to a Pre release event for the set. They also put them in the collector boxes for this as well.

And yeah, as expensive as this dumpster fucking fire of a set is, you'd imagine the quality control would be much better but, it isn't. Watch how TERRIBLY all those foils curl over the next few days. Most people who are actually PLAYING the game prefer non-foil for two reasons: they're actually playable game pieces (read: not Pringles), and the art looks much better.
You should do Flesh and Blood, new set soon!
Set Logos (middle right of each card) and Letter Marks;
Black/C = Common
Silver/U = Uncommon
Gold/R = Rare
Copper/M =Mythic
P = Promo/ Picture design
If the set symbol is shield shaped, the card was made for the Commander Decks and not available in Draft packs.
If you do this again, look up the full Picture Scenes and try complete them. Seems like a fun puzzle goal.
Also, in Collector's packs and Box Toppers, look out for the cards with a second name underneath. Those are desired cards that have been reprinted but with LotR flavour renames. They are usually worth bank.
Also; Don't Throw the Tokens.
You can make lots of them in game, so some people want to have like a stack of 40 to carry around for their deck. Because they need so many, they can be worth a few bucks.
There was a case last year where WotC underprinted a token accidentally and it was worth like £30 even though you can use anything in place of a token, like a piece of receipt paper or dice or a mini-model or whatever. People who wanted the official token paid out the nose for it.
That's really good to know about the tokens! I didn't even think about checking their value

I’ve just gotten into playing magic, specifically the lord of the rings set lol , and I can’t believe I’m just finding this! You’re truly the best!
I honestly think it'll never be found. It'll stay inside a sealed box somewhere in someone's collection, and that will drive the price of this set up to crazy amounts in the future.
There's also the possibility of someone opening it and not even realizing what it is and just tossing in a box somewhere
Yep that's what I'm hoping for and why I'm currently stock piling boxes to re sell in a couple years
I cant believe Max pulled the $4.2 million "Gollum's Crinkled Finger" card, insane video!!!
my crinkle will be heard around the world
Can't believe they shoved it up Chad's ass
When your toes are as long as your fingers, you'll indeed have a significant crinkle.
yes you get a lot of mythics when you buy a collectors box, they are more uncommon in a standard booster box but those boxes are less than half the price so you pay for admission.
So there are different products that MTG has. Prerelease, is for the week before official release where players can open packs and play the formats of 'draft' and 'sealed' (traditionally speaking). 'Bundle' represents the different bundles in which you can buy and receive 'promo' cards (denoted by bundle). I'm fairly certain that all these different cards are thrown into the pools of collector booster packs as it is the most expensive but has many 'slots' for rares and mythics in the packs.
In regards to the borders, from what I know there are 3 different types in this set. Regular, The Ring Border and Full Art, all of which can be found with a foil variant too.
Oh and the rarities go: common (black background set symbol), uncommon (silver), rare (gold) and mythic (orange).
P rarity is 'Promo' which usually isn't found in boosters, but Wizards of the Coast does what they want.
The way you open the box toppers with scissors, which are actually pretty consistently valuable in this set, gives me SO MUCH anxiety.
49:14 I know that as you said that, and your brain began to process what you were seeing, and you had to assume it *could* be the 2 mill ring, your heart skipped a small handful of beats and you weren't in reality for that time.
The best thing about this set is that the mass of product thats being opened will drive the prices of singles from the set down like crazy
I understand everyone capitalizing on the hype but, they haven’t released the 2million dollar ring yet. They prob won’t for another couple weeks until they hit their sale quotas. & even when they do “release it” they’ll send it to a friend. Kind of mind blown how so many people believe this is real
I would genuinely love to watch you open more MTG, I know you're not really into it as a card game or anything but even still its always fun seeing people find cool cards from a system they're largely unfamiliar with.
