After leaving my corporate 9 to 5 jobs in the entertainment industry in January 2014, I've been on a miraculous journey of self-discovery and freedom. I'm just starting to realize how beautiful life is when we choose our own paths based on what our heart tells us; not just the path chosen by others.

I tell people this all the time: I'd rather be broke and be doing what I love, rather than be rich and miserable. Someone once told me, "If you love what you're doing, you're already rich."

Renee Lynn You're not supposed to do what you love, you're supposed to do the right thing. Nobody loves cleaning toilets, harvesting potatoes, changing old demented people's diapers, identifying murder victims' bodies or digging graves. The people who hid Jews in their basements during WW2 didn't do it because they loved emptying poop buckets and living in constant fear of being discovered and sent to a concentration camp. If everyone did what they love, society would collapse.

This is exactly what I needed to hear. I am such a workaholic and it is draining; there are no memories to be made in an office, no lifelong friends to be made behind my desk....ugh I hope I am strong enough to take the step soon.

What a great video! I recently quit my job because I felt unfulfilled...and was losing my spark. In general, I allowed it to affect my overall well being. Today, I do not regret resigning...in fact, I am grateful. Among the many lessons that I have learned, I realized that I was allowing ego to take control because I spent most of my energy on work. I've changed my priorities and value my well being, spontaneity, creativity, etc.

You made the right decision. You are a rebel. You chose your self over the status quo. An empowered being is brave. And the brave are ALWAYS rewarded. Glad you decided to be a human being. And not a human doing.

I quit my NYC finance job last friday. It's scary, but feels right. Now I plan to travel and live in a van for the next year in order to get clarity on what it is I really want to do with my life.

Update, it turned out to be a huge mistake to do that. I didn't realize I was committing career suicide at the time. 5 years later and I'm still unable to get a job equal to what I used to have. Don't do what I did kids, traveling is over rated.

I quit the corporate world almost 4 years ago. It's been a rough journey with my business, which has not worked out the way I envisioned. However I have gravitated to trading stocks and have not done too bad with that. I think more people today are starting to make their own way by doing side jobs, driving uber, selling things on Amazon, ebay etc. The old way of thinking about finding a job and retiring in 30 or 40 years with a nice pension is a thing of the past. There is no loyalty in the corporate world any longer. Creating your own future and hence happiness for yourself is truly the best way to go.

tritosac pensions are actually the thing of the past. Less than 1% of corporations have pensions. Most have gone to traditional 401k plans. Pensions are a severe liability for corporations and we see it with government entities..

I really understand how happy you feel to live in the present moment, Richard. It is very precious.
I am a teacher with two more years to do before I can retire. However, I have decided to retire earlier so that time can now be my own. Although I am still working and will do so till the end of June, I already feel freer than I have ever been. All the simple things of my daily life are acquiring a far more precious quality.
Of course, not having a family to support, I can afford to make this choice and I feel how privileged I am. I see too many people who are so engrossed in the rat race that they forget to enjoy the present moment, they feel drained, depressed and they don't get the chance to enjoy the money they amass.
Work, holidays then back to work is a vicious circle which can only lead to frustration and unhappiness.
Living a simple life is the way to a free and happy life. Taking the time to prepare healthy food, walking or cycling instead of sitting in a car stuck in traffic jams. Talking to people instead of being addicted to mobiles or digital tablets. Looking for information instead of swallowing what the mainstream media want me to believe. All that enriches my life.
Economic growth is finite because world ressources are limited, one should remember that simple fact. On the contrary, spiritual growth is unlimited!

I recently resigned from my job. I had never been so sure in my life. It was mixed emotions though as I had to leave a wonderful set of people and of course, the attractive salary and benefits. But I guess those are the only two the I'm regretting (for the lack of a better term). I travelled though, and I think I found myself. So here I am, trying to starts anew. I'm just hoping that things will fall into place soon - despite not having the emotional support from my parents. Oh quarter life crisis. On a side note, I'm really glad I found your channel :)

Thanks for your share. I recently told my boss that I am resigning my position as a HR generalist and going back to school to finally finish my degree. She was so supportive, but I feel immense guilt and fear. I have thought about this for an entire year, so it wasn't spontaneous. I have to trust that this temporary time will get me to the next level and that other opportunities will arise again. Focusing on the now so I can be greater in my future ⏰

I could quit.. but what I'm gonna do if I life in a place so limited and where everything is so monopolized by corporations and opportunities are most given to those with connections.. here there is two options for someone like me, call centers and any other crappy job I can find.... if you don't wanna work in a call center (wich I really hate with a burning passion) you have to settle with a soul sucking job working long hours 6 days a week and earning almost nothing .. it's killing me.. every second i feel like it is crushing my soul.. I'm dying inside and is kinda unbearable.. don't know what to do

When I work for a few days, I have bags under my eyes, I stop hitting goals, I stop caring about my appearance. I have so many dreams and passions I want to chase but I don’t know how to do that while struggling to pay bills. I’m still struggling even while working. Does anyone know of any info to help you balance financially while branching away.

After i quit my job, i don't know me anymore. I mean the person who i know commits to job that i don't particularly like to do, i do it anyway which a compliment to myself, just i quit job because it terrifies me by thinking what if i can't solve any problem occur. Thus, i got attack by making me thinking that i cannot do any job, not being responsible, selfish, not strong, chicken out, etc. I' m generally purely confident person, but this just crumble me to the point what more do i want to find in a job after all of this.( plus finding our passion not easy).

richard, what do you do when you simply don't know how you can make rent? did you save up and then quit? I feel like if I just had a year to do whatever it would be the best year of my life because I would find monetization streams. but I don't know how to develop them when my job consumes almost all of my energy each day (highly analytical job about something I don't really care about). I am building little steps towards the skills I want to build each day...but I feel I'm going so slow, rather than if I had a full day to live just for myself. really not sure what to do about the money situation, it's the hardest part for me.

    • @notov8076
      @notov8076 8 ปีที่แล้ว

+Richard Kuo (Accept Yourself) Very smart move on your part!!! 4 years - now that is an awesome success!
It's quite inconvenient when first sorting through all this, but you know, I'm starting to realize it's literally all in your mentality. One action I've decided to take is to wake up early each day to start putting my energy towards my ideas BEFORE the exhaustion of the day sets in. I've tried and failed this before but - like my vegan diet and exercise programs - falling off the wagon once in my life doesn't mean I can't jump back on. Now that I have more passion than ever to take control of my circumstances and make them work to my advantage, waking up early is no longer really an option...it is a necessity if I want to become something greater than a victim of circumstance.
I even am starting to think this job is a blessing - not only do I learn a lot, but it pays enough that I can save up for future living expenses in a relatively short time! And during the time I'm saving that money, the makings of my new revenue streams can be developed slowly, with purpose, and with fun - without pressure.
None of us can ALWAYS practice what we preach but that doesn't take away from the validity of the preached words ;)

i agree but you cant pay bills with 'passion' :|

You would be more accurate to say that not ALL passions will pay bills. But most certainly many of the wealthy of the world will tell you that what they do is their passion.

SFH SFH I agree. The thing is, you need that absolute drive to succeed. You can be 100% passionate about computer programming or software, tv production, or any activity, but if you don't plan on making your passion into a business or your passion does not have the potential for making money than it's better just to keep it a passion. Having some background in business or sales usually helps but that absolute drive to succeed is necessary.
