    Wow. The only thing I like on the WIX is the coil spring. The Ford Racing is definitely the superior filter.

    If the purpose was strictly for racing and not for a daily driver, I would pick the Wix filter. Less media means less flow restriction but sacrificing life of the filter.
    The ford would be better for a hot rod that also serves as a daily driver.

    Ford "Racing" filter made by (M&H) Purolator. The Wix made by (M&H) Wix. True "racing" filters per se are basically sieves. So, the Wix having low efficiency rating, unsurprising. The Ford "Racing" filter has a 2005 spec sheet showing 99%@20micorns. While that's old, likely still close. The Ford filter an exception to "racing" filter efficiencies. It could be run on a daily driver, but it's pricey. Both made in US which is good. I don't race, so I'd choose neither. Thanks for vid.

      Most Racing filters are made for 500 miles and catch parts with 60-80 microns or more not everyday wear. Some true racing filters use a metal screen and a magnet.

    You probably already know from my previous comments that I have a 66 Mercury. I love the Ford products and that filter right there is drop dead beautiful! The Wix says made in "America". Well, is that North America, South America or Central America? My guess is the Wix is Made in Mexico. Ford for the win!

    not really sure if it makes a difference, but those high rpm pulls seem like they would draw more oil from the Ford. that would be my choice. great video

    If I needed such a filter, flow over filtering efficiency, I would go with the wix XP over either of these. That way I at least have wire backing to support the media as wire backing doesn't tear versus cellulose media can tear.

    For a racing engine the wix filter is more appropriate considering most classic race engines run 10-40 or 20-50 or even straight 60 weight oil and is designed to catch large bearing glitter where as the Ford racing filter looks like it's designed to keep a new vehicle warranty and for 5w20 even maybe 0w20 or even 0w16... Looks like a slightly improved flow premium filter vs a true racing filter that's there to be cut open and inspected for failed bearings.... I've built engines for years and have raced for years so that's just my 2 cents lol

    Both look to be well made, but I'd give the edge to the Ford. You seem to get more for your money. I do like the upper bypass valve on both of them, though. The Ford having 2 1/2 square feet of filtering is outrageous.

    If I owned a Ford I'd pick the Ford racing filter but chevy or dodge I would pick the wix. Thanks whip

    Most high performance engines have a very high volume oil pump. With that being said I would choose the Wix over the Ford filter. Less restrictive means better oil flow. These filters are in use for a very short period of time.

      Your 100% correct. Most Dirt Track/Circle Track guys Change the oil and filter each race weekend or an average maximum of 100-150 laps depending on fuel. I know some crate engine guys used to push 300 laps at the inception of the GM crate series but the engine tear downs have proven 100 laps to be the max marker. They all run the WIX.

    I'd use the Ford filter, without question. And I've always been a Wix fan.

    I'd use the Ford filter with its massive advantage in filter media square inches, silicone anti-drainback and gasket. If it had the coil spring (preference), it would be even better. Of course, according to someone, the coil spring distorts the cannister but it would be my choice.

    Ford does make some good products. I asked my friend once, why we were into Chevy and not Ford. He said Ford was more expensive. Ford does have better technology a lot of the time. However, Henry invented planned obsolescence.

      I've been a Chevy/Ford guy all my adult life, I like them both. I really can't say I like one over the other. Back in the day, I did enjoy my 69 and 73 Camaro's also my 67 Mercury Cougar. Those were the days. Yeah!😊

    Never had a need for a race filter. If I had to run one of these " one and done" race filters, Ford wins my vote. Both were well built but the Ford seems better.

      A "racing" filter would usually have less restriction to flow and a higher burst pressure. A less restrictive filter will increase engine power by a small amount (maybe up to 0.2%) by reducing pressure drop across the filter and therefore reducing the power required to drive the oil pump.

    As has been said, racing filters are built for oil flow. The Wix has the media for that, but has those tiny inlet holes. Makes no sense. Yet Ford has large inlet holes but more restrictive media. At least on the Ford, if the media can't match the flow, it'll partially go into bypass so oil will still flow to the engine. The Wix's restriction on the base end can't be bypassed to the rest of the system. You'd be relying on the engine's bypass, which on some engines dumps to the oil pan. I'd rather run the Ford.

    The Ford looks like a better filter, but either one works. The main purpose of a racing filter is to keep shrapnel from rattling around inside the engine. Totally unsuited for daily use?

    Guess these 2 oil Filters fit in a Mustang or Challenger. The reason I wrote this is because the Motorcraft Oil Filters that goes in Coyote Engines also are Compatable with Mopar Oil Filters that goes into HEMI engines. Run good oil with the Ford Racing Oil Filter like Royal Purple, Redline Oil, Liqui Moli or Amsoil.

    In dirt track racing most of us run the WIX filter. In the crate racing classes you’ll never see any other filter except the 51061R or 51060R. The primary reason is oil flow. We DO NOT want the extra media or tighter mesh. We also change our oil between every night of racing up to 100 laps maximum depending on fuel, track conditions, and other variables. I’m curious as the WIX 60R used to be rumored to not have a bypass valve and the 61R did. However, I now hear rumors that they both do contain a bypass. Ive never seen the Ford filters even on Ford motors but had heard that the RY45 (Roush-Yates) guys do run them. The “leaf spring” is huge downfall and nothing more than a cost cutting measure. Do we know if the “spring” is even cut from a quality spring steel or stamped from a cheap mild steel. At one time It I read that the built in bypass like the Ford design is inferior to the two piece design seen with the WIX but I can’t remember exactly why the authors stated this to be true.
    Since the subject is far more important for us racing guys. It would be interesting if you did more videos (series) each week comparing between all the racing filters than show a final comparison of them all laid out together. The WIX racing, K&N racing, Moroso Racing, AMSOIL Racing, Fram Racing, VP Racing and Ford. I think I have an old unused NAPA Racing filter I could send in but I think they where just a white label Wix filter that’s since been discontinued. I know I’m curious how the wix compares to the moroso and crazy priced AMSOIL!

      Yeah most everyone uses a WIX racing filter. My next dirt car (and probably everything I build that has any $) I'll plumb in a bypass filter like what diesels use (AMSOIL has a kit, can look at their video or might Microns video from 14 years ago). That way you get flow and better cleaning. Wouldn't mind to have a clear view screen like what many drysump guys have as a quick "is it hurt" check but I'll probably put the money elsewhere. Can just pull valve covers/inspect filter...
      Pair it with some Driven and 👍

      Very low filtration efficiency, these are designed for higher burst pressures, not for daily driver vehicles, they are usually changed out after several races or even 1 race & usually in the vehicle for a hundred miles or so ,unlike regular oil filters that can easily go 6000 miles or more

      You could probably use the Ford filter in this video. I think it has better filtration than the Wix filter which has a lousy micron rating. Not worth using when you can get a better filter for everyday use that costs less.

    What coating is on wix base plate that gives it a gold appearance? Doesnt look durable. Does Ford only make racing filters? I saw on a channel how Motorcraft glue came off & had chunks of it. Not a Ford guy here but just interested.

      Wix is Zinc plated 2:33
      The Ford filter is made by Purolator and I've opened up some Motorcraft filters that had excess glue on them

    Don't use either of these filters on your daily driver, they offer far less filtration efficiency than your standard oil filter, these are strictly for racing 🏁 & are designed for higher bursting pressure & very short oil change intervals & usually changed out after a race or several races ,not long term use

      Ive used the Ford Racing/Performance one for years and years on different vehicles and have had no problems at all. No oil consumption (as long as I use Pennzoil Platinum/Ultra Platinum). Clean as can be when covers come off to change spark plugs too.

      The Ford Racing ones are fine, same with the Fram racing ones. Both standard cellulose media. Only the Wix racing filter has the rock-catcher 40 micron media. Sometimes daily drivers need the higher burst strength cans too. My Subaru EA71S engine in my daily driver DL wagon runs 175 psi oil pressure on a cold start and will blow out gaskets on cheap filters. Has a Ford 90 degree oil filter adapter installed so it takes an FL820S-size filter. I run either the Ford Racing FL820 or the Microgard Selects from O'Reilly's, I like the nice silicone gasket and plastic sealing the filter in the box.

      They are not interchangeable. The FL1A has 3/4-16 threads and the FL820s has M22-1.5 threads.

    The Ford filter is miles ahead in build quality. I wouldn't be surprised if the NASCAR Ford teams use this filter.
