Hearing someone talk about these girls (and even their mothers!) in a positive light was so refreshing. The fact that you say you bonded the most with Chloe validated everything I knew that you were so good for that girl. It sure took a special person to break some of those walls down. I remember at the very beginning of the show, baby Chloe wore her heart on her sleeve, and as she grew up that disappeared. All they wanted was for someone to give them the time of day, but you did so much more than that.

Chloe is my fave Dance Mom girl, because she’s the underdog, who I rooted for, & she deserves to be the star, just like Maddie Ziegler, but in her own unique way. It’s so awesome that Cheryl is so supportive & gave Chloe the help that she needs to be a successful dancing star. I resent Abby, because no wonder Chloe psych’s herself out! Abby’s so hard on her! 😡. Anyways! Speaking of Chloe, my fave DM moment was when Chloe was hired to be the little girl version of a pop star in her music video. Christy was so proud & happy for Chloe for being picked by the video director or producer as the mini me version of that pop star. Christy said that, Chloe worked so hard she deserved that starring role in the video. Go Team Chloe! 🤩

  • @cheeriozombie
    @cheeriozombie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

*Nia* is absolutely beautiful, funny, bubbly and she definitely did not get enough recognition! Her mom was also the easiest-going mother, and super intelligent to boot. I’m so glad Cheryl had time for Nia and realized that she really was a stunning dancer with loads of potential.
*Chloe* is the sweetest soul ever. She was so supportive towards her team no matter what- she even lost her 1st place trophy to Maddie after an “accident” with scoring, and STILL, with tears in her eyes, said she was happy for Maddie. This all occurred when the poor girl was 7!! And she handled everything with such grace.
*Kendal* came a long way since she first came on the show. If there was a trophy for it, Kendal would have gotten the “biggest improvement” trophy. She shed many tears over the course of the show and it’s really unfair. Kendal held just as much potential as the other girls, and it’s a big shame she lost her love for dance. Kendal was a performer and super entertaining to watch.
*cheryl* thank your for seeing something in these girls that Abby turned a blind eye to. Thank you for looking at all of them, and being able to see a strength in each of these girls. You gave them more emotional support, strength, courage, and FUN in their last season of dance moms then they potentially had on any other season.
*Abby* you lost out on these girls. Here’s a favorite quote of yours...
    Big mistake, Abby, big mistake.

To hear Cheryl talk about the OG girls falling out of love with dance is a clear indicator and cements my opinion that Abby Lee is a terrible dance teacher. Who cares if your students are winning all of the trophies when you're the reason they've learned to loathe dancing? Even Maddie gives off the impression she's done with dance. She's not auditioning for roles on Broadway like she once dreamed, instead she's shilling athletic wear to her Instagram followers. It's crazy.

What my mom explained to me years ago is that the dancers on Dance Moms were not solely on a comp team, but also had a position on a tv show that was constantly threatened mainly due to the mama drama. Sure Abby was tough, and several times crossed the line, but it was the moms who chose to bring their children back into that unhealthy harmful environment. Having been an award winning comp dancer myself there is a lot of politics that goes on and unnecessary drama that can kill the joy of dance. It was good that the dancers got to experience teacher who made the dancers her priority.

    Dear Burke
I think you are the greatest person to end the terror that is Abby Lee Miller and the producers of this show altogether. In doing so you are saving, protecting, and defending these young girls and women and their individuality mentally and physically. I know this because before my cousin became a Trauma Nurse on the front lines of the COVID crisis she was a dancer along with some of my other cousins. Unlike my cousins, I experienced things differently because I'm Aspbergers, a tuba player, a writer, and an artist; whenever I went to their performances I felt not happy but guilty about my body and disconnected even though they loved me as a person. One time I was talking to them about my future major of Sociology of Music and Performing Arts and some of the concepts behind the field of study, at collage they took AP Sociology and Psychology. They never thought about a show like Dance Moms having commonalities with the Stanford Prison Experiment; where young male students were placed in the role of Guards and Prisoners and some never seen the show.
People like Abby are not only abusive themselves and enjoy it, but open the doors for more abusers and pedophiles to exploit these girls who only wanted to learn their craft out of enjoyment and not for the profit of another person. However toxic competition not only harms dancers it harms marching bands, corps, gymnasts, choirs, singers, or any performing artist who wants to learn and share their knowledge with others. When I was the age of the victims of Abby Lee, Larry Nassar, Gorge Hopkins, Morgan Larson, Dan Schneider, and countless others I was fishing with my Dad, reading good books, walking through the woods in Mio, Michigan, watching Monty Python, listening to my first Volksmusik CD, playing my tuba, drawing comics and art, and doing things young children and teens should be doing, loving, enjoying, and even eating good food that tastes good. One Easter I made Sugar Cookies for my Dad and my Grandfather and visiting us was my cousin who was having a bike ride when I wanted her to have a cookie she would not eat one because of the scarry three-letter f-word and she told me she made peanut butter cookies which I'm allergic to. I ended up eating the cookie I wanted to give to her. If there is anything my cousins have learned from me it's that their minds and ideas matter more than their bodies. Help rebuild their world as a sanctuary without fear of judgment, end the competitive culture of the performing arts, and make their lives better so they can be the future teachers, nurses, mentors, senators, activists, writers, directors, and people who help others.

People says that the new ones were more talented because Abby took away their passion... No, it's not because of that, it's because she didn't teacher them well, they were doing the same stuffs for years, the same movements, and they were often in different contests and not focusing of getting better, and learning more, the flexible ones were doing just acro, and the less flexible were not push to getting better that flexibility, Abby was not a real dancer, so she was more focused on the theatrical stuffs and not the dancing. Instead of getting better those girls were getting in reverse. Kalani was good in her other company, with good coreos, and then she dances with Abby just to do what Brooke did, and the same stuffs, even Maddie, she became more famous, but wasn't the best dancer, she was just more acting, to be honest I knew Maddie could do more stuffs when she was in SIA's video, but with Abby it was the same thing.

I think we always blame Abby for everything but the moms were just as bad : always complaining about not having solo and then complaining about how having a solo is a lot of pressure, insulting, yelling, getting physical with one another, talking down about other children ... We also forget about how much power the producers hold like who has solos and dance themes/style or the time schedule so they could make them do one scene over and over again so one child could not have enough rehearsal time. Abby is the one taking all the heat but I think a lot of the drama is the producers doing and it just put everyone on edge so they would fight with each other.

I'm so glad you bonded with Chloe. I don't know who could help it. Don't know if you've ever watched the old DM episodes, but if you do, you'll see her love of dance, even in season 3-4 when she was being treated so badly. The first solo I saw from her was the reunion version of "Seeing Red" -- my GOD. How could she be only 12 years old and capable of that? Then I saw earlier solos.... if you watch them be sure to watch the choreographer's cut or put "full dance" in your search. I still marvel at how beautifully she danced Wreck It, Another Girl, I Know It's Too Late, Into Me, Lucky Star... and all her musical theatre solos from when she was little -- I Want to be a Rockette, Ma He's Makin' Eyes at Me, I Like to Fuss.... and the other times when she took my breath away and looked like a professional --- The Raven, Black Heart, Angry Bird, Fired Up, Unchained, the group dance Light As A Feather, Stiff As A Board... even the Upside Down from season 7 (when she was briefly with MDP) Classic ALDC group dances like Glam, Bollywood and Vine, On the Verge, Just Be, This Is My Beauty, Rosa Parks, Free at Last, Gone Too Soon, The Last Text, I Want It Now, Sassy Dolls, Silver Spoons, Girls Night Out, Broken Dolls (even though she fell), even the problematic Tribal Council.... she always gave her all and drew the eye. If nothing else, you should see Silence from season 2 nationals - at age 11! - and Dream on a Star - age 10. I still get chills watching those from the pure emotion. Her group dances in Studio 19 are amazing too, especially Break the Silence and the senior first place winning duet (at age 13) Hangin' By A Thread. Of course the Love Is Blindness and Alice dance videos while so different are special to us fans also. So many other Dance Moms solos (and duets, trios and group dances). But it's not just the dancing, it's her sweet little heart that grew into this wonderful, genuine warmth that you can see in everything she does even now. Thank you for everything you did for her. I only wish you had been able to train her longer.

It was totally Chloe’s talent, as she was never given choreography as great as her competitors were getting, but she shined through anyways because she had that spark and natural skill. That’s why she was also chosen for the Joffrey ballet school scholarship. I’ve always loved how she danced and i’m so sorry that the traumatic experience ruined it for her. you could specially see it in s4, how burned out she really was and that’s why she didn’t progress as a dancer. im really sad about that, but im glad to hear Cheryl has bonded with her! Enjoyed this video... Have to say I feel like Camryn is misunderstood. Some of that "attitude" might come from the other girls shutting her out/saying some insensitive things to a black girl... listening to some of her own version of events, that's what it sounded like. (She also said Nia, was always lovely to her). Often black girls are told they need to work on their attitudes, as an end result of all the b.s. they've had to endure on top of the everyday struggles. Attitude is often hurt in these situations. Hopefully she's learnt to express herself better, as she can't act the same way some of the other girls (shown on the show giving attitude) are privileged to do, without being judged harshly.

This was such a refreshing take on Dance moms: commentary on the experience, girls and their moms. Thank you for sharing and being a positive mentor. Love ya

So has Cheryl taken any psych courses ?? Because this Queen is perfectly describing grounding and using terms to describe things the same way I would as a BSW student

A lot of those grounding techniques come from embodied practices like dance. Speaking as a Dance/Movement Therapist and Counselor.

As a fan of anything dance on television, I was like YES!! Cheryl is exactly who these girls need right now!! And then immediately though god I hope hope the moms don’t ruin it!! 🤷‍♀️ Even though it was rough at first, I’m so glad you did it. Especially for them. I had a small town dance studio and I can’t believe how Abby acted towards those girls. If there’s a dance god, they definitely called in Cheryl to the rescue!! I liked the bit of ballroom in their routine. I funded my own pro am ballroom dance career in my 20’s and would put it in my students routines for their recital. They loved it!! 🩰💃🕺👯‍♀️🎶

I'm glad you were honest and all the girls are adults now so no shame in the truth. You said good things about all of them. If someone has an attitude, then they have one and sometimes calling it out can help them realize it. I would hate to be known as the one who always rolled my eyes..but if I'm told every one sees it I'd for sure stop.

@@Jffy1902 ya but honestly look at all the drama from Charlie and Dixie from looking rude and rolling their eyes and they were held to a higher standard. Those girls had followers then too that would be looking up to them and think its kool to be a brat. I didn't see kameryns comment before posting mine though to be fair

There's a lot of negative stereotypes about Black people though, many folks often mischaracterize their benign actions as being rude or unkind, and it kind of seems like that's why Camryn replied to Cheryl; she didn't want her actions to be misinterpreted and reinforcing a negative stereotype.
