People don't realise just how much fun these little rc cars can be! Even the potholes in my road become ramps and water features etc for my ftx tracer. Really good fun
@mrtambourineman6107 Yeah I'm actually surprised they didn't make it a little bit bigger too. I'm sure they had their reasons for going so small but I think 114th would have been a little bit more versatile.
@DoRC will definitely be watching. I keep checking my local hobby warehouse and they have it listed but not available yet. Going to watch videos while I figure out how to fit one in my budget this winter.
I am still on the fence on getting one, it does look like a great little truck though. They seem to have built it just as tough as the bigger ones! Thanks for the overview and tear down!
Hell yeah 😅 I gave my mom 2 options for my Christmas gift: the Grom or the Gorgon. Either way I'll end up buying whatever she doesn't get me 🤣 I'm really excited to get one of these
Looks cool! The only 1/18 scale truck I've ever owned was the Dromida MT4.18. That was actually the model that got back me back into RC back in 2015. It was really fun but once I took it brushless I kept destroying the plastic diffs. Looking forward to see the Grom go brushless.
Oh wow! I didnt realise it was that much smaller than the 1/16th scale models. I was looking for another mini rc car, and might go with the ftx tracer (the orange one) to race with my other ftx tracer
It is small, but the comparison cars weren’t the same scale. Honestly looks like the a979 1/18th wltoys. As always Great Review. Foam tires is always a +.
Yeah I know I knew they weren't the same scale I was just comparing them to the kinds of small vehicles that most people will have or will be used to having. I think it's actually a bit bigger than the 979 and plus I didn't have one of those on hand :-)
Well this just answered my million dollar question I had. Been wondering if it had metal gears or not. I love my mini scale stuff and I have a spare Castle Mamba Micro Pro combo and wasn't sure if this was going to handle it or not. Thanks for the awesome/knowledgeable review and I'm definitely going to check out more of your videos
Looks nice. Im comparing it to the teton, and its loads better. Latrax teton has an aluminum (not hex) center shaft that is prone to bending, all phillip’s (pain in the ASS) hardware, and while the spider gears are metal in the latrax, they are not sealed. This truck looks like a promising platform and leagues easier to work on. Im sure there will be metal shocks, rpm a arms, and metal bulkheads within a couple weeks from some companies. Would love to see a side by side comparison if you have a teton! Wish they wouldve gone 1/14 or 1/16 too though.
Yeah I think this will walk all over the latrax platform. I don't have a Titan right now. I do wish they had gone a little bit larger but honestly with how well this thing drives I don't think it's necessary. It's a lot of fun.
@@666cemetaryslut its oldddd lol yeah, i think they’re on v2 or 3 but i have a full brushless one, its my main rig and i love it. i did a build breakdown of mine on here. i would definitely sell it for the grom though.
@maszkalman3676 Maybe though I think it would be more fair to compare the Grom to the 116th summit or at least the E-Revo. Short course trucks generally have smaller tires which will naturally make the 116th version short course truck lower to the ground and not as capable of handling off-road.
The hobby shops by me are getting them on Thursday. Picking one up for me and my son. Can’t wait! But why are all the cool upgrade parts off Horizon’s website??
Yeah it's kind of hard to bash this in brushed form too hard just because of its power limitations. Check out my final review video on it. I am pretty abusive to it :-)
I did with the first charger I plugged it into. All I got was a short green blank no matter what I did. I tried a different charger and it worked fine giving me red green alternating and then a long green blink when charging changing to solid when done.
@@DoRC so you had to get a new charger... i dont like that theirs no balance lead almost a traxxas move.... not sure what i can do im NOT buying one of their chargers i know that
@RC4us No it wasn't the charger itself That was to blame it was my power adapter. The first power adapter I used sometimes doesn't like working well with certain devices so I just tried another power adapter and it worked fine. Have you tried other power adapters with it? And yes I do find the lack of balance lead annoying. I've already swapped out the power system in mind so I'm not using the original battery anymore but it is kind of irritating
@@DoRC ok i see yeah i seen the book says something about a 20w 5v @ 3amp is best an will charge it in 1.5 hours it claims ive tried a few including the one for my ipad but i dont think any are 20watts all have been 5v 2.0amp tho for a very beginner rc this isnt a good start i will mention this in my review
@@RC4us It should work on pretty much any adapter but a power delivery adapter is best. I was able to use my computer as well as a couple other options.
Yeah it's more stable than it has a right to be given its size. Most of those little cars in grass get bounced all over the place and are uncontrollable. This is not uncontrollable.
Arrma finally wants to compete with the Traxxas Erevo 1/16 VXL. Half the speed for half the price. But for me the King of baby bashers for price, style, and durability is the Hyper Go Wanna Be Xmaxx 1/16th on 3s Lipo. I ran into my pontoon boat trailer at 38 mph and only broke the GNSS speed meter.
Yeah those are definitely cool cars. I think this one's going to have an advantage in parts availability and upgradeability. Horizon is already doing a bunch of upgrades for it and I'm sure the aftermarket is going to follow suit. You definitely are paying that Arrma name tax though.
@thecoldhardtruth420 It doesn't trump this car in warranty, ease of maintenance and repair, parts availability, upgrade availability, upgrade quality, out of the box handling, out of the box tire quality, battery tray versatility, clipless body system, body quality etc. Don't get me wrong the MJX does have advantages but it's not like the Grom has nothing going for it.
@DoRC Kenny, parts for the Hyper Gos are readily avail on Amazon, most Prime. From just replacements to all out upgrades. the Infraction wannabe comes with three sets of tires. I went with Traxxas Goodyear slicks that I run on my Kyosho Fazers. On a stout 3s pack I got 42mph, in my 98 foot driveway and still had enough brakes to not hit my gate. Bone stock except for the tires. The days of shunning Chinese cars from Chinese companies versus American companies manufacturing in China are going away.

@DoRC one would be the FS racing Victory Mini 1/18, you said 9 screws for the top plate/cover and one diff housing, FS is 8 for top plate and one diff or 10 screws total to expose the entire drivetrain😅 One of the coolest little 1/18 on my channel I think considering age as it is a bit older now. This Arrma would be stronger but the current price difference 🤯 $250aud Arrma or $79aud FS
@DoRC oh no sorry had to re check, you didn't state the amount of screws but yeah you got more than 9 removed there, so yes FS is much quicker and easier to work on.
@@rccrazy That sounds pretty good but how small are the screws? To me the size of these screws is one of the biggest advantages. Every other little car I've worked on uses teeny tiny little screws which are a real pain and are usually Phillips head.
