El trompetista cubano Arturo Sandoval cumple 74 años este 6 de noviembre del 2023. Sandoval es uno de los músicos de jazz más importantes de la historia, y su carrera se ha extendido por más de 50 años. Sandoval nació en Artemisa, Cuba, en 1949. Comenzó a estudiar trompeta a los 13 años, y rápidamente se convirtió en uno de los músicos más prometedores de su país. Entre sus logros en la Isla está haber fundado el grupo de jazz Irakere, junto al pianista Chucho Valdés y el saxofonista Paquito D’Rivera. En 1980, Sandoval abandonó Cuba y se radicó en los Estados Unidos. Allí comenzó una exitosa carrera como solista, que reúne más de 30 álbumes y numerosos premios, incluyendo 10 Grammys y 17 nominaciones.

I had said, "I will say, one thing Apple has done well this holiday season is bring forth to the youth a beautiful song!" I had downloaded it since I have seen the commercial and have listened at least 30 times since, that was 6 days ago. :-P. Such a beautiful piece.

La versionan y arreglan todo trompetista que se precie, añadiendo adornos y florituras que intentan ensalzar las dotes del interprete y lo que consiguen es desvirtuar la pieza original que para mi gusto es la mejor. I,too, came here as result of IPhone ad. I recall hearing this at Tijuana bullfights. Does anyone remember the successful Jewish bullfighter Sidney Franklin? He was a commentator on American TV way back when the bullfights were broadcast in Southern California.
Good version, but I prefer the original version from the 50's of the Spaniars "Churumbeles de Espana" with his singer Juan Legido. Este guey (Sandoval) le pone mucha crema a sus tacos !!!!!!!

Are we sure this is the video that goes with this audio? Looks like Williams is just standing up there waiting until the orchestra starts playing to start waving his stick, and he stops when they do. The exaggerated motions of the baton appear to have nothing to do with the tempo, meter, and beat of the music, even to the point of conducting 3/4 when the sound is clearly in a four-beat time, and all the while he counterbalances with the flailing left hand. Otherwise a fine performance by the orchestra and Sr. Sandoval. I've seen poorly synchronized audio with video on TH-cam before, but this posting takes the grand prize: an inspiring achievement on the part of the TH-camr. Bravo, Isaque!
The original Rafael Mendez arrangement has a couple of cadenza measures, so that would explain it. For those who don't know, a cadenza is where the soloist plays a long, sometimes complex part that is often played separate from the rest of the accompaniment. Basically, it's like a big solo where the orchestra pauses in the middle of a measure, then picks up again after it's over. It's marked on the conductor's score, so when the soloist plays the end of the cadenza, the conductor can pick up right where they left off.
Video of Sandoval is not that much out of sync. Maybe it's like that cartoon from the New Yorker. A long haired conductor walks onto to the podium, looks down at the music, and it just says "wave your arms until the music stops, then turn around and bow".
1. John Williams is a great composer, but not a great conductor, 2. He isn't conducting in 3/4, he's conducting in 4/4 (albeit, poorly), 3. When he stops he is waiting on Sandoval's cadenzas, 4. I definitely think the audio/video are in sync, look at Sandoval's fingers, they match up perfectly with what he's playing.
