      Armilar Zifferblatt To see what..? the crankshaft turning slower..? it would be senseless...
      You can actually see what happens when they start the engine. Thats all...no magic involved.

    It's amazing how these little engines can survive GALLONS of nitro fuel turning out 10K- 40K RPMS and .5-3.0+ HP. Not a big surprise when one can seize up within seconds of lean running or incorrect fuel.
    Call me old fashioned, but nothing beats the sound and smell of a nitro vehicle.

    I think it would be cooler with a 4 stroke engine so you could see how the oil flows around in there at high speeds

    • @Runenaldo
      @Runenaldo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It would look exactly the same, as there is no oil in the crankshaft housing on a model engine.

    • @atomic4440
      @atomic4440 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Rune Eide Hansen You're wrong. In a two stroke engine the oil is in the fuel air mixture. The oil goes on the moving parts of the engines, the rest of the mixture reaches the piston.

    • @Runenaldo
      @Runenaldo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Maybe I wasn't clear enough, so I will try again. I read Matts comment as he thought that there would be an oil sump like in a car engine and I so I tried to explain that, that wouldn't be the case on a model four stroke nitro engine.
      So Atomic NeRd, yes I'm very well aware that on most two stroke engines the fuel is mixed with oil for lubrication , but on a four stroke model RC nitro engine its the same as there is no oil sump.

    • @atomic4440
      @atomic4440 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rune Eide Hansen Sorry, my bad. I expected some Rc 4-stroke engines to have an oil pump for lubrication...

    • @PhotonlcInduction
      @PhotonlcInduction 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some do if you consider all home machined model 4-stroke engines. But RC 4-stroke engines, usually used in aircraft, won't.

  • @rambow70

    @DerKrawallkeks 7 ปีที่แล้ว +63

    Wooow, this is awesome!!! Love it. Never seen that on a two stroke. And on a nitro engine especially. It's impressive how much oil there actually is

    • @killerbanjo

      That's what I was thinking, 2 strokes lead an easier life than I thought!

    • @DerKrawallkeks
      @DerKrawallkeks 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea! Exactly! But I think it would also be a different story on a bigger engine. With 1/25 or 1/50 oil mix, I can't imagine it would splash around like that down in the crankcase.
      I mean these nitro engines run ridiculous 20 or more percent of oil I think;)

    • @killerbanjo
      @killerbanjo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's actually interesting how you can see the oil level in the bottom of the engine case change with throttle position. With the throttle open and more fuel (and thus oil) coming in, there's a rise in oil level, and then it drops when the throttle is closed.

  • @jamesbonde4470
    @jamesbonde4470 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, that's quite instructive. A significant pool of fuel at the bottom of the case. And it doesn't get cleared out at full throttle. This proof that you should always run your engine dry. Take the fuel line off and spin the engine a few times with the clip on. You'll find the engine will give you a burst at least once and usually two or more times.
    The reason you want to run it dry at the end of the day is because the pooled oil can cause the ball bearings to rust. The Nitromethane is the culprit. Many fuel makers claim that this isn't necessary because they have rust inhibitors in their fuel. That may be so, but I never take the chance. As well, if you put an engine away for an extended time, the volatiles will evaporate and you will be left with a gummed up engine. Different oils have different characteristics, the synthetics not so much but castor oil is the worst.

  • @toastedsmith
    @toastedsmith 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Also I think it would be cool to see two or more shots side by side with varying amounts of nitro as i know atleast .46 airplane nitro engines can run on 0% nitro up to 30% and i have always wondered how that affects the flame.

      It just depends on size make and model, .12 - .20 "small block" nitros can run anywhere between 40 an 50k, probably a little higher on a properly tuned race motor. "Big blocks" anything .21 and up generally run 5 to 10 k less on average due to more weight on the internals, but make for the most part, especially now a days, big power. I've ran os .12, traxxas 2.5, 2.5r, and 3.3, xtm .18(early 2000s) kyosho .21, and hpi .15, and of those, the xtm was easiest to tune, next would be the traxxas engines, all scream like crazy, the os .12 rips in a touring car, the early hpi .15 in my rs4 mt I had was a dog, but was easy for a beginner engine, and was soon upgraded to the xtm .18 with a cvec pipe and was a monster. And as far as the kyosho .21 engine, and granted it was used but was extremely difficult to tune. But once tuned to that sweet spot, it was the most powerful I had used to date. I know there are many other good engines out there too, but that's what I've experienced.
