  • It’s always a fun opportunity to fly with your Dad somewhere, especially across county! On this trip we flew a Vision Jet from Chicago to California (KSNA). You’ll remember my dad from our TKS system video!
    It was really cool to fly and have a good time with him. There were a few scenarios that we had to work through. Hopefully you can bring some of these thoughts to your flying in a scenario that could be similar!
    Thanks so much for watching!
    - Al

    Father-son Vision jet time-priceless!
    Approach speed and picture only slightly faster than SR22. What a spectacular airplane!

    The sights from the cabin of the CF90 are unmatched, truly amazing. Some jets much more expensive do not offer those visuals. Great video, thank you for sharing.

    Al, your dad did an amazing job of landing. As I sat in front of my computer monitor at home, I didn't feel a single vibration! As one famous flight instructor taught, "If your passengers can feel it, then you've done something wrong!"

    Great videos Al! I am a few months late, but congratulations on your new opportunity at Cirrus and business on the west coast! It must have been great to share the recipes with your father too… I like the pause and ten count prior to boarding the plane for departure. It is certainly bad form for a pilot to taxi over wheel chocks, melting an AOA cover or sucking an engine inlet cover through the N1 fan. Best of luck and maybe I’ll see you at the Vision Center.

    I am a pilot and I watch a number of videos and pretty good ones. I must say that yours are my favourite. Your content is great. We get to see a lot of the flight. I also have flown and love the vision jet. Just a great representation of a great airplane and great content. Thanks and keep it up! Congrats on the move west. I live in Seattle and fly the SR22T on the west coast. Fun stuff.

    Great job, Al. Your videos are excellent; interesting AND informative. You are obviously intelligent and articulate with great instructor ability. Well done on taking your dad with you. He clearly enjoyed it, especially letting him fly left seat. You’re a good son and a credit to your parents.
    Your highly interesting focus on operation of the Vision Jet is so good that I could probably fly it even though I’ve never even seen one in person. This makes your videos extra valuable. It’s so absorbing that it’s almost like being there in the cockpit with you.
    The Garmin glass is excellent, isn’t it? In a couple of more generations, you’ll just climb onboard, strap in, check to see that your flight plan was loaded properly, push the start button and request precision to taxi. Kinda like driving your car. It’s almost like that now. Amazing. When I learned to fly there were no glass cockpits. It was analog instruments and navigation using paper charts and mechanical flight computers. The term “stick and rudder flying” was real. It was great fun but I wouldn’t go back. I know a lot of guys like old stuff but not me. I’ve owned some awesome cars in my life but none of them are even close to my new Denali. Spare me from the old stuff.
    Anyway, I like the Vision Jet but your videos are better. 😎👍👍

    Really enjoyed watching your video, Al. It's been a true privilege to watch you go from the little kid who just wanted to learn to fly, then witness the support of your family to get you educated (including Arkansas!), and now to see you evolve a wonderful career for yourself. Cheers to you Al. You make me smile.

Weather wasn't the best when we left so he came along. When we landed he talked to ground and referred to us as United (can't remember the tail #), ground came right back with United # taxi to.....
    Good times, was back in 89.

    Al, here’s a little tip for you on setting up a vertical profile from the flight levels, center will descend you to 11,000 feet MSL before they usually turn you over to a Tracon or a smaller sector, therefore set your VNAV 40 nautical miles short of your destination at 11,000 feet, you’re likely to find from flight level 300 you’re looking at about 110 miles out. Give it a try

    I have the ForeFlight basic app even though I’m not a pilot and it was so much fun to see the various airspace divisions - living in Manchester U.K. I’m closer to Liverpool then I am to Barton and I’ve always wanted to hop across the Irish Sea to Dublin to visit family there - one of my neighbours back home in Ireland was an Aer Lingus captain for many years and his son owns a Piper Arrow out of Dublin Weston so he flies with the Connaught Aero Club into Knock Airport in the West of Ireland and they go to the South of France quite frequently, as well as to the Aran Islands off Galway, down to Kerry and up to Sligo and Donegal 🇮🇪☘️🇺🇸❤️

      A friend of mine had a vision jet out at SNA…Robert Drenk….bought it new and let me fly it. He just traded it in for an M-2. There are so many more places to go and things to do out here vs DPA. Within two hours of KFUL in turbo cirrus the usefulness of plane is so much better. I’m going to Vegas tomorrow for the afternoon….that not a 1:15 hr flight out of DPA. Ha. You will love it. Assuming you are using ACI at SNA. Hangar space tight all over

    It would be so cool if they could configure a restroom/head on the plane!!! There is soo much room if they took the back seats out.. either leave just the 2 front that you could move back, or put 2 seats behind the front that recline for sleeping and trading off pilots in the air. I’m always looking at configuration’s on the Cirrus jet2 for cruising around the world.

    Just a note on the cowl anti ice: at the airline we have it on when we're in visible moisture/clouds from +10C to -40C. Below that, it's too cold for ice to form and we turn it off. I see you're at -50F in that clip, which is -45C, so not really needed at that point.

    195 is economy cruise at 30k? What is the fuel burn at that speed and height?

    • @al.waterloo
      @al.waterloo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We were not at our Econ cruise. It’s a very different power setting than what we were at. You could expect a TAS around 250-260kts and a a fuel burn in the 40gph’s. We were just on the edge and pulled back a few knots to 295 KTAS. That was all we needed.

    My dream plane ! Currently in flight school to change careers. I want to fly in one so bad!! I'm currently in St Louis. Is Chicago the closest place to me that has vision jets? Definitely worth the drive for me!

      St Louis is a great spot! Keep going you’ll look back on your training as a great time in your life. Where are you learning to fly? Check out Mistwood Aviation out of KSUS

      @@al.waterloo thank you for that information! My flight school is at Creve Couer airport called Piston aviation. Part 61 school. I'm new to the mid west and realizing that the weather here is terrible. Had to cancel multiple flights. I'm currently in their zero to hero program working on my commercial. I'm a cop at the moment and hate it lol and am looking to change careers. This was best decision I've ever made wish I would have done this instead of go to college and get a degree I didn't need lol.

    • @al.waterloo
      @al.waterloo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically I will do nice things for the fuelers. I don’t tip regularly but I will send pizzas, give gifts etc. I’ll definitely tip if there is something abnormal or Herculean that they do.

    Is a single engine jet a concern with an engine out. Just like with a piston engine single. I will never be able to buy a jet. But that would be my concern for never getting one of these!

    • @al.waterloo
      @al.waterloo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the Safe Return and Cirrus Airframe Parachute system, it should not be as big of a concern!

      @@al.waterloo very legit point. Is safe return proprietary? Will Cirrus ever sell that to other manufacturers in the future?
