Dandelion Dynasty, Book of the New Sun, and WOLAS are going to provide us some wonderful material for analysis, and I’m excited for all the discussions to come in 2025! I’m also looking forward to finding out what you think of Earthsea and Liveship Traders. My very best to you for 2025, Johanna!
You were a great inspiration for adding Earthsea! I'm excited about all our reading experiences and discussions in 2025! 😊
Glad you'll be continuing with Liveship Traders next year! Oh, and with Elric, I didn't like that second book in the second omnibus either, but I felt the last two books of that omnibus are my second and first favorites of the entire saga, respectively. On to 2025!
Then I really need to continue Elric! I'm looking forward to Liveship! Thank you, Josh!
Omg those editions of the Dandelion series are beautiful !!! I’ll also be starting The Devils later this year. I’m so excited. It’s going to be my first Abercrombie.
Oooh! I hope it's a good Abercrombie starting point. Thanks, Alicia!
That's quite a lineup of books to scratch off your TBR list, with many all-time greats in the mix. Like you, I plan to finish reading Dandelion Dynasty and Terra Ignota in 2025.
I hope you have lots of happy reading in the new year!
I love that we'll have a couple of ongoing series in common next year! Thank you so much, Bridger! Happy reading in 2025!
YESSS The Dandelion Dynasty!! I absolutely can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it :)
I'm so excited about DD!! Thank you! 💜
Sounds like you are gearing up for an epic 2025!! I am so so so excited that it's finally time for Dandelion and Liveships. And I am also cautiously optimistic about The Devils, it really could go either way. Hope you have a blast with all of these! Happy reading 🥰
Thank you, Esmay! I feel the same way about the Devils, but I am mostly hopeful. Happy reading in 2025! 💜
What a year you have coming up! Dandelion Dynasty, Liveship Traders and Bas-Lag. All amazing, enjoy!
Hooray! Thank you!
I discovered Ken Liu in 2024 and haven't been able to shut up about him since. I hope you enjoy the dandilion dynasty it was right at the top of my list this year. Also, buckle up for BOTNS it's wild!
I'm expecting nothing but great things! Thank you so much!
Wow you’re very much speaking my language here Joanna! Dandelion Dynasty is my top priority for next year and I plan on starting January/February. Liveships is possibly my favourite trilogy and Discworld is a top 5 series for me. I am also dying to get to Book of the New Sun, Terra Ignota and Bas Lag. Sounds like it’s going to be a great year :)
That's awesome to hear! I‘m very optimistic about all the above. Enjoy your reading plans! 😊
Such exciting plans Johanna! I’m going to be starting Wars of Light and Shadow this year. At least the first book. I think you’re going to love Liveship Traders!
@@BookishChas wow! I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Merry Christmas Eve and happy reading, Chas!
@ thank you Johanna! Merry Christmas to you as well!
Exciting lineup!! I also delayed Liveship for years after finishing Farseer for the same reason of just being intimidated by that big book 1 (and knowing that it would be emotionally intense, which even so I was not prepared for the reality). It’s hard to imagine a more Joanna series than this one though, and I think you are going to cherish it.
Dandelion unfortunately never reached beyond a good-not-great feeling for me, and I was just hoping for a little something more from it.
I CANNOT WAIT to try Terra Ignota!!!! It’s been a while since I’ve done dense high concept sci fi and I’m kinda feeling like it might be time to go back to that well.
Need to continue Earthsea too, which is so magical!
Thank you, Ben! I hope to enjoy Dandelion Dynasty, but it’s good to hear balanced thoughts about it.
I expect you're right about Liveship! 😁
Hope we both enjoy Terra Ignota!!
Looks like a lot of awesome reads coming! I have really been wanting to get into The Dandelion Dynasty as well, and I’m still sad that I didn’t pull the trigger on those Broken Binding editions. They look so good!
Thank you! I don't usually buy nice editions of series I haven't read, but I couldn't resist with gorgeous purple Dandelion Dynasty ones! 😅
@ I came very close to not resisting. I had the page bookmarked and when I finally told myself I’m going to just do it… the sale was over. I’m sad because those editions truly are gorgeous… but I guess I saved a little bit of money for now lol.
@@N.A.Summur you never know if they’ll become available again somehow some way!
@@Johanna_reads fingers crossed!
I’m also going to be continuing the live ship traders series - enjoyed the first book. Also will be reading the 5th Prydain - really enjoyed book 4
Wonderful to hear that! Enjoy!
Will definitely be joining you for the book of new sun and dandelion dynasty readalongs! (I read book 1+2 of dandelion this year and loved it!)
For my list: I’m planning to finish off first law earlier in the year, continue malazan which I just started, and also start some more like WOLAS, Bakker, (and finally reading Tolkien for the first time next month!)
As well as several others I need to catch up on.
All in all I’m realllllly excited for my reading in 2025, I had such a wonderful time this year. Most of which I spent on reading Hobb lol. I’m just about to near the finish line of RoTE and it’s been absolutely brilliant.
Hooray for First Law, Malazan, and all the bangers you have in your reading plans! Dandelion Dynasty should be great! Happy reading!
ooh perfectly timed video!! Love it!
I was so nervous I was getting this out late 😅. Thank you, my friend! 💜
I have 0 doubt, and am 100% sure that you'd love Dandelion Dynasty !!! Have a nice time reading them!
I love the strong confidence, and I feel the same! Thank you!
I'm doing a reread of Wars of Light and Shadow along with your group but I'm adding in the novellas and short stories along the way. I haven't read the final book yet and I can't wait! If you love fairy tale stories written in a classical style, I recommend The Wonder Tales trilogy by Charlotte E. English. They are very whimsical and short reads.
I'm so happy you’re enjoying your Wars of Light and Shadow reread! Thank you for the recommendation!
Some great series on this list - I love both liveship traders and the dandelion dynasty. Hope 2025 is a fantastic reading year for you!
Thank you! I'm anticipating great things from Liveship and Dandelion Dynasty. Happy reading to you too! 😊
What an amazing list! samwise will be joining us on our read along!
How many readalongs are you doing next year? 😂
@ so so many!!
🫡🫡🫡
Oh, that's perfect! Thanks for letting me join the BotNS party! 🎉
@@Johanna_readsI'm joining along as well! Can't wait to talk BOTNS with you and everyone else 😊
Hello my friend ❤ I am so excited to hear your thoughts on dandelion. To be completely honest, book 1 is one of my best books of the year. I loved it so so much and the rest of the series is just phenomenal ❤
Yay! Thank you so much for sharing that, Joanna! I'm looking forward to it! ❤️
Ship of Magic is a wonderful book. The thickness is a good thing on that one!!!
Oh yay! I hope that will be how I feel about it!
Hi Johanna. You've got lots of intriguing titles on your list. I also want to read Ken Liu, China Mieville, Robin Hobb and others. Not sure when I'll dive in. I've gotten heavily into classics in 2024 and have been having a ball. Happy reading and Happy Holidays. I love seeing your enthusiasm for your books.
I'm excited about this list and hope to insert a few classics in my TBR this year. Thank you so much!
Wow, so many books I'd like to read this year as well! Excited to read along ✨
Wonderful to hear we’ll be enjoying some of the same books! Happy reading!
you are going to LOVE Liveships. And I believe you'll appreciate BONS. Yes, Don did the art. One of the best-ever covers IMO. Do the e-book :)
Thank you, Brian! I love the ebook advice for BotNS! I’ve done the same for WoLaS. 😁
@@Johanna_reads I'm simultaneously liking this comment and staring at all the hardback WoLaS on my shelves.
@@BrianBell7 I own most of hardbacks too, but I've honestly only read them on ebook 😅
I also read and love the farseer trilogy but have been procrastinating starting liveship traders, although instead of wars of light and shadow i fell into malazan! so excited to hear we'll be getting new malazan next year, im on fall of light and going to start the god is not willing next! im also interested in dandelion dynasty so might have to check that out as well
I hope Liveship is worth the wait! Hooray for Malazan! Enjoy!
Looks like a fantastic list Johanna! Thanks for the shout out! I’m very excited to see what you think of Wolfe. He’s very different in terms of style but I think you’ll appreciate a lot of things he does in the New Sun books.
Thank you! Having a different style sounds like a plus to me. I'm looking forward to our discussions with the readalong!
BAS-LAG!! I still haven't read Iron Council yet, mostly due to the nature of them being such self-contained stand-alones. But pretty much every Mieville book that I haven't read I've been keeping as a special read when I need something I know will be mind-blowing and brilliant. Very much looking forward to your thoughts about The Scar. It's an excellent book.
I'm going to be starting Terra Ignota next year as well! But will probably get to it later than you will. It sounds so good!
If the Scar is anywhere near as good as Perdido Street Sation, I'm in for an awesome experience! Hope we both enjoy Iron Council and Terra Ignota!
Yay Earthsea. Hope you enjoy it as much i did this year (first book series i finished).
Lovely! I hope I enjoy it as well. Thank you!
Very fine list! I recommend checking out Sharp Ends. There’s an important piece of backstory about Logan and the Northmen. You get to spend some more time with Whirrun of Bligh. There’s also a couple new characters who have a series of stories that form something like a novella, Shevediah and Javre, who have a great buddy comedy vibe, while also being extremely compelling female characters, flawed, charismatic, and oppressed by larger society.
Thank you! I own the audiobook to Sharp Ends. I intend to get to it at some point. 😅
What a great list of stuff to look forward to! I'm on Stormed Fortress now for Wars of Light and Shadow. I'll be continuing the Sci-Fi Masterworks readings. I'll also be reading The Great When by Alan Moore and a couple of new Conan the Barbarian novels. Hoping to get to some Gene Wolfe, Feist, Salmon Rushdie, and older Wurts series as well. Other than that, keeping things open for new releases (Erikson, Lawrence, etc.) and random mood reads. Take care!
You have so many great reads lined up! I'm looking forward to catching up with you in Wars of Light and Shadow! 😊
Prydain holds a special place in my heart ❤️. I need to continue with Hobb and Dandelion Dynasty. I feel safe in saying you'll like DD. I should be doing Terra Ignota next year too.
Hearing your love of Prydain makes me excited to continue! I hope we both enjoy Terra Ignota! 😊
Exciting series planned for 2025!! Really interested in your thought on DD and BOTNS as I haven't read them! Oh, Too Like the Lightning is so tempting to want to jump on with you! A lot of people have recommended it to me. Currently I'm planning a re-read of LotR, and also have the Daevabad Trilogy planned for 2025.
Thank you, Ben! I'm really looking forward to all these. I honestly think about rereading LotR all the time. Sounds wonderful! Happy reading in 2025!
_Dandelion Dynasty_ didn't make it onto my priority series for 2025 list, but that is only because there were already too many series in that video! It is definitely in my orbit as well. _Liveship Traders_ is pretty high on my list, too. I am _really_ hoping to finish Farseert in January (though I said that for November, too... and December...). But maybe we will overlap and can discuss some of the series as we go! Mieville is also a high priority for me, too.
Hooray for Liveships! I can understand having a too many series. I've been meaning to get to Dandelion Dynasty the last couple of years. I had high expectations for Perdido Street Station, and the book exceeded them. I hope you feel the same. Happy reading, Lekden! 😊
I will be reading Book of the New Sun very soon as well and I am highly anticipating it!
Hooray! I hope you enjoy it!
That's a banger list of books. I can't wait to see what you make of The Scar!
Thank you! I'm so excited to read it!
That is a heavy year from the fantasy side 😅. So glad you are going to read Liveship, some insanely great characters in that series.
I’m doing my best! Haha! 😄 Looking forward to Liveships!
I also have been putting off Liveship Traders. I read the Farseer trilogy a couple of years ago and loved it. I have been delaying reading the rest of the Realm of the Elderlings. Planning to fully dive into Hobb’s work in 2025.
It's just so easy to space the sub-series apart. I hope we both enjoy the rest of Realm of the Elderlings!
Dandelion Dynasty is an absolute masterpiece. It’s no question you will get it based on your previous experience.
Lifeship Traders.👏👏
You have a great list. China Miévelle’s sci-fi? Bangers. The man writes beautifully.
Hooray for all the bangers! Thank you so much!
I'm super curious on what everyone will think of the Devils. Ive yet to read of Abercrombie so I don't think ill start with it but its always cool to see a very successful author move into a different series. Also I doubt ill catch up to you but I do enjoy going back and listening to all of your WoLaS talks whenever i finish a book.
If you start First Law, keep in mind that the first book (The Blade Itself) might not hook you. After that, the series gets much better (or so I thought). Thanks, Tom!
BotNS is one I've been tossing whether to start next year as well and I'm very interested in Dandelion and Ada Palmer but I think my dance card is full for 2025. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on some of these, including Earthsea.
You're reading Malazan at a perfect pace, so you clearly know how to navigate a series! Happy reading, Kathi! 😊
You have some great series lined up. Happy reading in 2025!
Thank you! Happy reading to you too!
I was planning on doing a reread of Book of the New Sun in 2025, so I look forward to any content you put out regarding it. Hope you enjoy.
My wife and I just started reading Robin Hobb recently with Assassin's Apprentice and we're going to continue the trilogy in 2025. I look forward to hearing your opinion on Liveship Traders as I can see us continuing with Robin Hobb.
Overall it looks like you have a very interesting list for 2025.
I'm so happy you and your wife are enjoying Assassin’s Apprentice! Enjoy your Book of the New Sun reread and everything else you get to in 2025!
I need finish the dandelion dynasty but The Grace of Kings hooked me. Wall of Storms was also amazing but so far book 1 is my favorite.
So glad to hear The Grace of Kings is a strong book 1! I often hear more about the second book, but I love hearing different opinions. Thanks!
I’d like to recommend a Series to Start, or to Start Again if you already tried to but stopped for some reason and that Series is The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. It’s been 5 years since book 17 of this Series Battle Ground was released and there are plenty of plot threads to pick up in the 18th book Twelve Months which by all indicators should be releasing in 2025. I know the toughest part about Dresden is starting the Series since the first 2 books are the weakest and believe me I was there too but from Page 1 of the 3rd book Grave Peril I knew I was in for the long haul and the Series just keeps getting better and better from there. Happy Reading!
Thank you for recommending me Dresden Files! I've been curious about the series for a long time. I'll consider this! 😊
@ you are quite welcome I always recommend Dresden to any readers but especially Fantasy readers
I’m planning on reading Book of the New Sun and Terra Ignata in 2025 as well. I’d be very interested (as always) to hear your thoughts on both!
Happy Holidays Johanna!
Wonderful! I‘m excited to hear your thoughts on those. Happy Holidays, Bart! 😊
Very cool! Many of my favourites are present here.
Tchaikovky’s Tyrant Philosophers is the only new series in my plans right now. Otherwise it will just be rereads unless someone really sells me on something. Feel like nothing is going to measure up to my current favourites tbh 😅
I'm feeling some FOMO for Tyrant Philosophers. I keep hearing great things! Enjoy!
This reminds me I need to continue dandelion dynasty. I, naturally, have the unpopular opinion that book 2 wasn’t drastically different than book 1 but I am a completionist and need to read the last 2 books 🤣🤣🤣
Oh, interesting! Good to know. I look forward to catching up and hearing your thoughts! 😊
I plan to reread Terra Ignota in 2025. It’s one of those few series that has given me the same wow-reaction as Malazan. I’m also continuing Expanse, The Rages, Sun Eater (widely said to be best sci-fi but it cannot compare with Terra Ingota that is it’s own thing, thought-provoking and unique with it’s ideas and very unreliable and crazy but always much-missed narrator Mycroft) and Riverfall Chronicles.
I'm so happy to hear this! Enjoy all the books and series you get to in 2025!
I also plan on reading Terra Ignota next year
I'm excited to start soon!
I need to finish the Dandelion Dynasty. I have read the first book and I loved it.
I will be looking forward to your conversations about Book of the New Sun. I read them a few years ago.
I'm really looking forward to The Devils as well.
I want to read Too Like the Lightning in 2025. I just have so many series I should try and finish before starting another one 😢. Maybe I will just ignore that and read it whenever you do.
Earthsea is fantastic. My favorite is The Tombs of Atuan which most people dislike. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it.
I started Steering the Craft and set it aside for no reason. I need to get back to it.
I don't know if you have read The Lathe of Heaven but it is my favorite LeGuin novel. It is basically LeGuin writing like Phillip K Dick. Super strange.
I will join you for the next book in Tales of the Flat Earth. Just let me know when you start!
Thank you so much for weighing in on all of these! We should definitely pick up the Flat Earth book alongside each other. I can't read as fast as you, but I'd love to hear your thoughts! Happy reading, Joseph!
Ooh, love Shop of Magic and Discworld, hard recommends from me! Very interested to try Ken Lui, he's on my TBR for sure, and I'd like to try at least something by Janny Wurts. Are you planning to read any more GGK?! Been loving those discussions this year! All the best for 2025
Thank you so much! I am planning to read Under Heaven in 2025 and maybe A Brightness Long Ago. 😊
I'll be interested in hearing your review of The Dandelion Dynasty. I saw multiple booktubers compare compare it to Brandon Sanderson works. Sanderson doesn't excite me as much as other people so I backed off this series.
I picked up the Charles Vess illustrated edition of Earthsea last year and have been wanting to crack it open and go through it so I'll need to prioritize that for 2025.
Love China Miéville! His non Bas-Lag books are worth reading too. I might reread Book of the New Sun when you all read it, because that series is always good for a reread. I hope to get around to some Elric too, so that I can be reminded of the good old days when fantasy books were only around 250-400 pages before Tad Williams, Robert Jordan, and GRRM convinced everyone they needed to be 800 to 1000 pages long. I'm reading through the 1300 page Wind and Truth right now and I'm tired of this turn in epic fantasy
Thanks for the caution about Dandelion Dynasty! I hope it has something different to offer.
China Miéville’s Perdido Street Station was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2024! I was recently recommended Embassytown. I'm excited to read more from him!
So true about Elric and all the shorter fantasy stories that once existed! 😂
Great video. I'll be interested to hear what you think of The Book of the New Sun series. I got through the first two books and just didn't like them and couldn't see the appeal of them. As I remember there was very little science fiction and that may have been one of the issues for me but also I'm not a very intellectual reader either. I hope you enjoy them and can't wait to hear your thoughts.
Good to hear this before getting into it! I hope I find parts of it to connect to, especially if the intellectual parts are challenging. Thanks!

I'm so glad you approve of those three! 😄 I am so excited you'll be reading Augustus and Aspect Emperor next year!!! Please keep me updated. 😊
I still need to finish Dandelion Dynasty and Earthsea 😅
I hope the payoff is worthwhile! 😄
@Johanna_reads are you still doing Memory Sorrow and Thorn next year? I thought I heard your name mentioned as a participant?
By the way, Ada Palmer's Terra Ignota is ALSO influenced by Book of the New Sun.
Oh! Good to know!
Should we read Ship of Magic together
Let's do it! 😊
I only read Perdido Street Station this past year and loved it. I mean it's a brick but easy and cool to read.
Too Like The Lightning. DNF.
Perdido Street Station was incredible. Oh, I'm sorry to hear Too Like the Lightening was a DNF 😣.
Hello there hey there hey Hello hi hello hey
Hello! 👋
Have you read any Anthony Ryan books series? I am thinking about trying that.
I have not, but I've heard more negative thoughts than positive ones in this corner of BookTube. It's made me hesitant to try his books.
Just finished Grace of Kings last night. It was wonderful!
I’m planning to reread New Sun these next few months so I can move on to Book of the Long Sun :)
Earthsea is just the best thing ever! Do enjoy!
I'm so happy to hear this! Thank you and happy reading!
I think you have some really cool stuff to look forward to, especially the Scar. The Prydain books are good palette cleansers, I'm down to the last one (High King) and hoping to wrap that in 2025; I'll admit I didn't think much of the first two but the third was pretty good and Taran Wanderer was genuinely a well done story about realizing one's identity and worth.
I keep making the same mistake Jimmy does of starting series because just in the last month alone I'm reading M. John Harrison's first Viriconium novel, an Animorph novel (8 of...54), started Stephen Donaldson's Gap series, will be starting Stephen Donaldson's Mordant's Need soon, and finally forced myself to dive into Peter F. Hamilton with the first of his Night's Dawn trilogy which sort of like you with Ship of Magic is intimidatingly long for a first novel at 1104 pages (!) of which I'm only 475 into. Its second book is just as long and the final is a staggering 1360 pages.
Thank you! I'm excited about The Scar. Prydain will function as a palate cleanser, and I'm glad to hear the series gets better! Eek! I hope the length of Liveship is worthwhile. Good luck with all the ongoing series!
