    The mouse trap. We do it a little different but same concept. Great video

    This looks extremely useful :) i just started BJJ yesterday at a Gracie style gym, and i’m excited to learn as much as i can! I learned about the Americana yesterday, but i couldn’t help but notice how similar it is to the Kimura, and this video helped me to understand the difference. Lastly, the only difference between the Americana I was taught and the one you preformed, is that instead of only turning the elbow upwards, you also slide the knuckles down, “painting the mat” by sliding their fingers on it. He said that this applies even more pressure to the shoulder joint for a quicker tap, but to also be careful not to take it too far. Thank you for giving me these tips :)

      Congrats on starting your BJJ journey. What you have described is the traditional method for the Americana. I used to do it that way when I was a white belt. The reason I don’t focus on “painting the floor” anymore is because this gives your opponent the ability to turn and push your elbow to escape the Americana. You will observe this more and more as you train with experienced practitioners. Enjoy your Journey my friend. Glad the video helped.

    you can also use these moves to generate a threat and they'll often reach with the other hand to try to stop you. then boom, armbar on the 2nd hand

    So now for me it’s a quintal threat, because these 4 and you can still go to an armbar if he gets a chance to get the arm all the way down.

    does armbar still work even if your opponent moves his thumb?

    • @andellalexander
      @andellalexander ปีที่แล้ว

      The thumb is an indicator but not an absolute requirement. Think more about the wrist being vertical rather than horizontal. The idea is the rotate the wrist in such a way so that the elbow is in the ideal breaking position.
