Great video as always. I just take mine apart, spray the bolt carrier, trunnion and chamber/bore with Ballistol, let it sit for an hour or so, come back and wipe ‘er all off with old cotton T shirt and an Otis blue bristle brush ect. Bronze brush the bore and chamber a few times and then wipe out. Wipe off trigger pack parts with rag with some Ballistol on it. Lube the whole thing with Ballistol including the bore and your done. I don’t shoot in sandy/dry environments, so rust and wear are my main concerns, so I lube them more like an AR15, but don’t do that if you are in dry/dusty conditions.
Derek, I just purchased a new HK SP5 and haven't been to the range yet. The pistol (as delivered from HK) was fairly wet with oil, just viewing the breech etc. Should I lightly clean the gun before taking it out to the range for the first time? Please advise, and thanks for your many informative videos - they're very valuable, especially when your new to the HK SP5.
Congratulations on your awesome purchase! Your SP5 is not like an AR and isn’t to be run wet. You definitely want to wipe her down removing the storage oil from the exterior and inside the receiver. You don’t need to do this for the bolt group but wipe any excessive oil of the bolt carrier group.
I use brake cleaner and the air hose, at my shop to get started after a whole day of suppressor play. And then the cleaning and oil and brushes. Comes out like new every time. No the brake cleaner does not effect the paint on.my sp5. Same for my ak. Try it one day. You will be amazed.
Great video instructions, but it needs to be filmed from different angle so first time roller delayed gun owners can see what your doing and how your doing it.
Derek, I recently viewed a thread on an HKPRO SP5 blog that said to "Grease the hell out of the entire bolt assy with a high temp roller bearing grease, and make sure you get the rollers well coated. It takes about 200 rds to break in a new system. CLP is not heavy enough to do the job." Do you agree with the above statement? If so, would you recommend using Lucas Oil Extreme Duty Gun Grease? Thanks in advance!
Derek, just bought my first Zenith Z-5RS and would really appreciate knowing what lubes you use on which parts like the Lucas. I got the Fireclean part but not sure if you add Lucas afterwords or just run Fireclean. Using my wife's account! Thanks, Tom
Vicki Lee hey Tom! Remember, the roller locks are not in need of massive lubrication and really meant to be run on the dry side. If you want to add lube, add it sparingly to contact points like the rails and rollers. Don’t over lube it
Holdan renner i like a thin layer of fireclean on the bolt head, locking piece, and bolt carrier so the carbon just wipes off after use. For the most part, the roller locks are designed to be run dry as opposed to what people are taught for the more common AR platform

Great video. I just got a PTR 32 and I love it. Thank you for letting people know Roller delayed blowback doesn't need to be dripping wet with lube.
I’d like to see a discussion on lubrication of these weapons. Seems to never be discussed in detail.
ok, that's a good idea, thanks

No, don’t grease the hell out of any roller lock. Little dab of grease on the rollers or rail is fine but not mandatory…
@@HKShootingwithDerekG Thank you, I’m following your advice! Much appreciated.

@@HKShootingwithDerekG Thanks Derek. What have you found as the best way to load the 30 rd mags as I have bad thumbs! Thanks, Tom
Vicki Lee www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=18741 CAM Universal loader works best. 30 rds into a mag quick & easy
Hey Derek just wanted to know if we coat the bolt carrier group with the fire clean as well
I like a light coating applied...makes clean up a breeze
@@HKShootingwithDerekG thank you so much, great video
so cleaning and lube of the bolt? sorry I missed if you are supposed to lube the bolt or not?
