Amazing hotel deal there. Thats a solid breakfast! And stunning location! Oh and Sanssouci (pronounced somewhat like San Suzy) might be a nod to the royal palace of the Pruissian king Frederick the Great in Potsdam near Berlin with the same name, which means carefree in French. French was of course the "fancy" language to use in royal circles back then. Karlovy Vary was of course pretty much German for most of its history, being part of Sudeten, a part of Bohemia with a mostly German speaking population that got displaced after WWII.
20:08 My oldest sister goes to Praque and nearby cities every summer for a writers get together ( she is a film director). It is the highlight for her every year! I’m going to ask if she’s been to this absolutely beautiful town!
Hi Gabriel, I installed bolt without using local phone number. I have T-mobile as well. I use bolt quite often while in Thailand. Bolt is also used in Hungary :)
I was just in Malta and Bolt is popular there. They seem to be spreading outside Eastern Europe. Another common service is Freenow which I used in Dublin and Barcelona. I keep all 3 apps on my phone so that I have options.
Great and picturesque, one of the best spa towns worldwide, setting of the prominent film festival and also many films were shot there (for instance, Grandhotel Pupp is named Hotel Splendide in Casino Royale, James Bond). Prior to WW2, Sudeten Germans were majority there, before Czechoslovakia was Austria-Hungary (with Austrian aristocracy loving spa culture), that's why there are still many German elements. Carlsbad spa wafer is amazing desert with many different possible tastes, Becherovka (introduced 1807 in Karlovy Vary by Josef Vitus Becher) amazing herbal liqueur, there are many hot springs with very different mineral water, so much to see and taste there.
If you got time on your hands while still in Karlovy Vary, you could visit the town of Loket thats like 20 minut car drive from you. It's often compared to Český Krumlov, since its also a town on river bend, has huge castle and beautiful historical core, it can't really be compared to Český Krumlov imo, but that also means less tourists. If you are going to Český Krumlov after and plan to go to Brno (east), there are many beutiful towns on the way, try to stop in Jindřichův Hradec, Telč, Znojmo and Mikulov. Or if you are gonna go the northern route and want something else, you could go to some of the "rock towns" as we call them, they are very unique rock formations specific for Czechia: České Švýcarsko, Kokořínsko, Český ráj (my favorite, rocks with the biggest concetration of various castles and medieval sights, translation is literally "czech paradise") and Adršpašsko-teplické skály. All of the places I named are nicely aligned on the way to the East of the country (Moravia)
Yea loket or elbogen the original German name. Nice too really nice. You should know the nicest towns and cities in the CZ are in the former Sudetenland which was habitated mostly by German speaking Bohemians. Krumlov next was called krumau an der Moldau if you go to moravia avoid brno go to olemoc or in German Olmutz and Mikulov or in German Nikolsburg
@@praguetruebelievers9832 What do you mean "original german name", the town and the castle (thus the name loket too) were there long before the first german settlers came in, not to mention the town was owned by the great Czech houses of Přemyslids, Popelové z Lobkovic and so on.. same with all the other towns and cities you mentioned. The rhetoric you are pushing is the very same rhetoric Nazis used to excuse their annexation of Czech lands, do your views align with theirs? I second going to Olomouc instead of Brno though.

100% on the Bolt app. The taxis will overcharge you. Just be nice and they will overcharge you less. I think the statue base are called monuments. I'm also from the Portland area and fully enjoyed about 2 weeks in the Czech Republic around Old Town, Vienna and Budapest. I spent some years in Germany in the military but most of these places were still USSR at the time. Many of American images of these beautiful places were black/white. It was hard to imagine what we were missing.
Right at the end of the video there is a circle. When we were there May 2018 it was a steam fountain. Maybe no steam now because it’s to early in the season?
I installed it in Thailand and couldn't use it, with a new sim card, could not confirm my account. You won't have that problem. As soon as I returned home I signed up for Bolt, but there are so many options there for getting around, quite different where you're at. At least the trains are reliable.
I was working there in Grand hotel Pupp for 3 months. I had crush with one housekeeper. I forgot her name. It was during shooting casino Royale. My of best memories 🙂

Those places were never part of the USSR.
@@martinc.720 Apologies. Czechoslovakia was not part of the USSR, but it was a satellite state of the Soviet Union.
" in the Czech Republic around Old Town"
I was not aware that the Czech Republic had an area called "Old Town"...
@@martinc.720 I think old mate Kev is a little bit confused on a few points here.
@@martinc.720 when American comments about Europe it is usually noncense
Right at the end of the video there is a circle. When we were there May 2018 it was a steam fountain. Maybe no steam now because it’s to early in the season?
I can ony recommend Dresden its also a really beautiful city in Germany not too far away from you.
Temperatures should rise significantly in the next two or three days, hang on Gabe.
Excellent.
nice! thankyou... germany
Nice video. First time I saw that anyone had to Google who Goethe was 🙂 No offence, just really surprised.
Really
I think he was more like curious why everything is "Goethe something" in Karlovy Vary, I also didn't know that he was visiting it.
Before 10 days were about 27 Celsius , last week is really cold😂
I was in Prague on April 5 when that happened

I installed it in Thailand and couldn't use it, with a new sim card, could not confirm my account. You won't have that problem. As soon as I returned home I signed up for Bolt, but there are so many options there for getting around, quite different where you're at. At least the trains are reliable.
Hi Gabriel, maybe would you like to visit beautiful Gdańsk in North Poland! I definitely recommend this city. :)
Karlovy Vary was the shooting location for a good bit of Casino Royale
Привет ☕️ 🧇 🙋🏼♂️ Прекрасная прогулка по городу ✅️ 📹 🔝 👍🏻 🚶🏼
K V looks like a well ordered, neat and tidy city. I wonder how safe it is regarding crime etc?
I was working there in Grand hotel Pupp for 3 months. I had crush with one housekeeper. I forgot her name. It was during shooting casino Royale. My of best memories 🙂
Very cool. 👍
Gabriel go to the local cemetery. Mozart son is buried there. Now the town hides a lot of Russian oligarchs
Quite the opposite, Ukrainian refugees replaced the Russians since the beginning of the war. Most of the russians that were there moved out, since our country is the mpst vocal supporter of Ukraine and confiscates properties of Russians that support the war.
@@ross0mak354 Yeah, the only Ruzzians you see now are the ones who live in Germany and they don't act like the ones from Ruzzia, for the most part.
@@stevemcgowen mad comment
@@myrinaa22lalala51 It's true. Speak to some locals in Prague about how Ruzzians acted when they would come here. They called it the Ruzzian Invasion when they would come for the Orthodox new year. So many times I would see them drunk, feet on tables, shoes off, reaching behind bars, handsy with waitresses and bar staff, loud, drunk obnoxious behavior. They were hated even more than the English lads on stag dos.
@@stevemcgowen lol..I work in sunny isles and hallandale north of miami(Russian towns)They are all the same..Rudes,Narcicist ,Putin lovers.I speak Russian and I talk to a lot of them..
KV is not as busy as usual because the Ruzzians who would flood the city no longer can- they claimed KV was part of Ruzzia. Oligarch kids in Adidas kept the Czechs away. Last summer saw a return of Czechs to the town and I bet even more this summer.
So, basically, you're saying there are a lot of opportunities for ironic gopnik squat pics... perfect!
@@MoniandDunny That was pre war. Not so much now.
Yeah, and ugly cyrillic is disapearing from the city, I absolutely hate to see cyrillic in Czech cities. Ofcourse now I respect some things in Ukrainian for refugees, but it should not be like half of inscriptions in city are in cyrillic. Karlovy Vary is nice originally german speaking spa city, it's really weird to see cyrillic there just because of russian mafia owning everything.
@@Pidalinso you’re okay with Ukrainian Cyrillic writing but not Russian Cyrillic. Buddy have you looked up the definition of HYPOCRISY? Because you’re a big one 😂
@@maxsportsman2416 Yes. One side was invaded, the others the invaders. Ruzz act like they own the place in KV and Prague, while Ukrainians act like welcome guests. Big difference.
THAT IS A GREAT CAMERA, HOW DO YOU GET THE SOUND SO CLEAR. SALUDOS
While editing I increase the volume on all clips by 150%, which helps a lot.
Thanks for you reply, keep doing that it works. Saludos
In slavic languages C is never a K 😅 C is TS..Ć,č is CH..Š is SH and Ž is zh. So that coffee place would be pronounced "kavarna TSukrarna" which means "sugar factory coffe shop" 😂 just for a bit of fun. Love your videos Gabe 🫡 hello from slovenia 🇸🇮 😁
it's funny how he reads CE like in Italian like ČE or something like that 😀
@Pidalin haha yes,he has "problems" pronouncing words cause of English language. But you can see he has travelled so much that some words/letters he knows not to read them in "English style" and he says them right 😁

I still love Prague more 😅❤️
❤🤍💙
I was in Pilsen and Prague but was day trips on a small tour in Germany and they took us do cheated that time!
Karlovy is as chilly as Philly. The YMCA sauna would warm my feet but it's $52/month. 😅 Well worth it.
Just curious: Can 'first light' or IR really help reset your jet lag? ☆
in case you'll decide to go to Germany, don't forget to visit good ol' Heidelberg with the longest pedestrian zone in Europe and, for sure, the famous😅 Heidelberg castle. in spring time should not be that crowded. and - a gem in the world, Hotel Europäischer Hof in Heidelberg. One of the few 5-star-hotels worldwide, run by a family since some 100 years. The - now - boss, Caroline von Kretschmann would surely be delighted to do a video with famous Gabriel traveler😘. btw, I'm not getting paid for this post, just was there last year and was smitten by the whole atmosphere and service which can easily compete with any Karlovy Vary Hotel
you are not far from Görliwood Görlitz in Germany. Many Hollywood Movies are beeing shot there!
Thanks, it looks nice and close to Dresden which I also wanted to see. I'll think about it.
The h in Goethe is silent, not a th sound as in North Cothelstone Hall or Nether Addlethorpe.
I hope you still understood what the video is about.
@@martinc.720 Please explain, in case I didn't.
Beautiful town, and a spa town at that! Bolt is used in many countries. I tend to use Uber in Europe and the Americas but Bolt in Southeast Asia and Africa.
For slavic speaker Czechia should sound as Chehia.
I did not even know until Gabriel video. Its name had changed . Still think of Myanmar as Burma, and Czechia as

You should do a hotel splurge video for a night! you deserve it!

Yes its very clean and nice but Cesky Krumlov is more pretty with narrow winding streets and quaint buildings.
