Awesome to see this on Clarence Clemons. He was a fantastic saxophonist and you know instantly who's playing!

I have always loved the growling sound of the sax! Practise that every chance I get!
I have to say, I found your channel about six months ago and frankly wish your channel was around when I was in school! My instructors were not saxophonists by day nor by night. They were flautists or tuba players. Never got the information you are sharing here most notably the video regarding the mouthpieces!! I have always been after a specific sound and found that my stock mouthpiece was limiting me from that. Since basically when I first started the sax I have been under the impression that ligatures and reeds made the tone.
I thoroughly enjoy your content and knack for teaching concepts without the extra jumps and side roads; Point A to point B with no layovers, not stops for takeaway... pure to the point with aural examples to boot! Keep up the good work!

Relaxing everythin often gets me into lower octave where I don't want to be. Discovered moving jaw forard while relaxing helps control. the fall off

It's also important to keep the air flowing a lot when doing this kind of fall off.

Clarence Clemons is the reason I wanted to learn the sax

That’s the exact same case for me! I heard the solo from I’m going down by Bruce Springsteen and instantly fell in love with the sax!

You need a Dukoff Miami Power chamber mouthpiece to get that sound

I love that growl. I have not progressed in my skill yet to try this. I am still learning the notes and tempo.

Hey, your content is super helpful! Any videos on how to growl more effectively or just tips? I know its humming/singing while playing, but I can never get it to actually growl

I have a theory that the “fall off” is imitating the Steel slide guitar.

I'm a man, Nigel, intrinsically impossible for me to do 3 things at once! Great video. :)
