In an effort to live courageously, I decided to do a 100 Day Project about fear. My biggest fear since I was a little girl has always been big dogs, it was time to face that one.
Do you now the story about the dog who comes every day to the spot where he habe seen his man the last time? The real story is the man ist dead but the dog comes every day an still wait for him
As a huge dog lover who has had dogs my whole life, it warms my heart to see someone who is afraid of dogs go and try to play with and pet them. I’m happy it looks like it was a good experience. I know that might not make you not afraid of them anymore, but I’m glad you got to experience some good dog fun☺️
CallMeJuney Honestly, surrounding myself and making myself play with dogs didn't eliminate my fear of dogs completely. I'm still very uncomfortable when I'm around a big playful dog who's not on a leash. But, I it definitely helped me improve and understand they will not harm me. I used to only feel attracted to small dogs but now I find big dogs to be beautiful, I even want to buy one some day!
Just ask friends, relatives or people you know who have dogs to help you over come it but slowly like day one just see it through a window then day 2 hear it or be near it then work your way to actually touching and playing with a dog and maybe you can overcome your fear.
I have a dog thats mixed between a collie and a German Shepherd,a collie is known to be a farm dog that bites the sheeps ankles so they run into a certain place a german shepherd are known as police dogs,when people see my dog they get scared because everyone can tell shes part german shepherd,but as soon as u meet my dog, u would fall in love with as she is so friendly,people say that certain dogs are scary and bad and people have said that about my dog but my dog has never hurt anyone
I love dogs so much and have never had a bad experience with dogs, so its very interesting to watch people who are afraid of them and overcoming that fear!
I wasn't always afraid of dogs. I enjoyed seeing them when I was a little boy, but then on a holiday in Madeira I eventually met an angry puppy that was out after ME out of all people. Since I was only 9 when that happened I developed cynophobia and it kept on until I turned 18 when I met my friend's uncle's dog who was staying at my friend's house for a while. It was pretty big but I developed a liking to it.
Im ten and I have been terrified I mean LIKE SERIOUSLY TERRIFIED of dogs for like 10 years and right now we are looking to get a puppy to help me overcome my fear but I'm scared to even go near a dog on a leash that is 6 feet away from me ! So I don't know how you went near a bunch of dogs and if I were doing that I would be crying and probably screaming cause of how TERRIFIED I would be!
Brave! And good for you. Hint: Try not to snatch your hand away. These dogs, 99.9% of them WILL NOT BITE YOU. But they do sense your fear. So, keep getting closer, keep calm, and stay in touch with the animal. You will find your fear will diminish, over time and exposure to the thing that scares you. And congratulations!!
I just got a GS Puppy and it scares me when she approaches me and tries to lick or lock her mouth on my hands, don't know what to do really! she wants to play and jump and lick, but am scared and so tense...
The fact that she can be near dogs she doesn’t know- Im terrified of dogs and I have to go super slow if I meet them and they have to be small and laid back I’m getting a dog in 3 days and we made sure she is laid back but I’m so nervoussss!
Aside from being afraid, the biggest issue seems to be the lack of understanding about dogs' body language. It's honestly hard to learn without owning a dog yourself though. And it's hard owning a dog and expecting it to never bite you.
I recognize that pattern where she lifts her hand away when the dogs are close, raising her arms. That’s exactly what I do when a dog approaches, either that or I keep my arms rigidly by my sides. It’s embarrassing at times, as I’m 54 years lad and if a dog comes near I’m waving my arms in the air and sometimes leaping as if to get higher than the dog, if that makes sense. Also when I’m sitting in someone’s house and their dog runs into the room I leap up and only sit if I think the dog is not going to jump up on me. Any suggestions?
It's awesome that your doing this! Your afraid of a lot of things though. Like, i wonder how you got to be an adult that's afraid of dogs. Everyone in my home city has at least 1 dog. I don't think ive ever met someone whos afraid of dogs in real life.
Thats what a phobia is. It's an irrational fear. Think of it this way. Millions of people are afraid of spiders, even though they know most of them cant hurt you or anything like that. It really makes no sense to be afraid of spiders or other insects. Yet still many people are for some strange reason. It's just an anomoly that happens with the brain.

I honestly don't like when people are afraid of harmless things. if a dog attacked you when you were young then it's not a safe dog. all other dogs you can tell are good or bad. most good. I'm only scared of bad, destructive and harmful things. my #1 fear is whirlpools, terrifing, swirly, can tear you apart, drowns you, NO!
It's called an irrational fear for a reason. You dont think she doesnt know that dogs are sweet and harmless? She probably does, but it really has nothing to do with that. Millions of people are afraid of bugs or the dark too. Even though there is no reason to be whatsoever. It's not their fault. It's just an anomoly in the brain. For me personally, I dont understand how being bitten by a dog or getting punched or hurt is so scary to most people anyway. It's only pain, and that's it. It's easy to overcome and doesnt last very long.

If you suffer this my advice is get a golden retriever puppy, they are basically angels in dog form.
