I have to say, of all TCB/Starkid-adjacent shows, this is probably the one that left me wanting to hear more, see more, learn more. And I don’t mean this in a bad way : the story’s straightforwardness and (relative) sobriety is one of its great qualities, it does a great job at being a pastiche rather than a parody. Being a big Bond fan, I was expecting the Trevelyan reveal from the very first second, and yet I was still completely engrossed by it, between the DMA cover (which I actually didn’t expect) and the romantic relationship (I saw the hints, but wasn’t daring to hope for more than a joke). How did the live audience see time and place changes that are on the bottom of the screen? Was there like a screen or something in the theater? And the note from Cynthia in the second part?
Those were all projected on the set! For this filmed version, we avoided cutting to cameras where you could see them on the set and used motion graphic effects to erase them when you could so that you wouldn't see double.
There are just so many things I love about this musical. The music, the choreography, the humor, just, everything about it is amazing. Thank you so much for giving me a musical with a gay main character that doesn't treat his sexuality as a joke or a plot device. Also, I can tell that everyone involved put their heart and soul into this production, and you all did such an amazing job. Thank you so much.
Omg I cannot express how much I love this show and how important it was to me. The entire cast is so talented- with such amazing voices!- the set and costumes were perfect, and the music is just UGH it almost annoys me how good the music is! So catchy and works so well with the story and characters I love it. The story is so well written as well, the journey and character development Tatiana went on was so well done and distinct, and she wasn't even the main character! I really enjoyed how this show embraced key well-loved tropes of spy stories but was also new and unique and did the unexpected. The second half of 'Doing This' made me so happy- a male-female friendship that doesn't progress beyond that or underrate the importance of friendship- in a spy story no less! As a queer person, I loved the Curt-Owen relationship reveal, it made me go back and rewatch the whole thing from the beginning seeing it in a completely new light. I thought the relationship was handled really well by both the writers and the actors, and act two part six absolutely broke my heart (which means it's doing it's job!) Well done to everyone involved, and if there is going to be a sequel I CANNOT WAIT.
Guys, that little sequel announcement was in the show. As everyone was exiting they projected that onto the set. So I don't know if it is official or not, only time will tell!
I knew coming into this Curt and Owen dated. I saw and laughed at the ambiguity But as a pan person, hearing a queer main character be open about their sexuality without it being a big thing is amazing. Ester did it in Solve It Squad, and it made me so happy; this even more so. Thanks tcb!
So many people give Spy Dance so much hate- man it just gives me a lotta joy- like, it's one of those songs where as soon as I hear it I start dancing around, I love it
Honesty the prop cigarette had me fooled really well in this show, it literally looks so realistic except for the few moments where you can see the metal ring around where Lauren holds it. Likely the prop e cigs
I. Am. OBSESSED. A couple days ago I watched the show, yesterday I listened to the cast recording, and today I watched the show again. Everything about this is just brilliant. It is laugh-out-loud funny, jaw-dropping dramatic, and the story is constantly taking incredible new turns. I adore the set and costume design and the lighting and sound were magnificent. All of the performers were pure geniuses and seeing them switch from character to character so quickly was just amazing. The acting was so well done, singing gorgeous - and the music (of course) and the libretto were absolutely awesome too! Seriously, I cannot say enough good things about this show. I have a new musical to put on my list of favorites. I can't wait for the sequel!!!
If Owen miraculously survives in the sequel I am going to SCREAM- (also WHAT THE HELLLLLLLL I CANT BELIEVE THEY ACTUALLY PUT IN MEANINGFUL REPRESENTATION TCB AND STARKID ARE ACTUALLY A BLESSING-)

This was so good! I thought it was weirdly short, but turns out it was just so good that I didn't realize how long it was. So many plot twists, catchy music, and great characters and acting! I really hope y'all are serious about a sequel!!! I love all of the og Starkids who are in this, and I haven't seen Mary Kate since the Lizzie Bennet Diaries! She's amazing.
You’re telling me that this whole thing was a musical about spies??? No wonder I had no idea what was going on!!! They really should have told us that before the very last scene, jeez
Ok ok ok ok. We got impotant character development tea to spill. Ok basically we know curt just killed Owen as a way of 'getting over him' or some shit, and then in this scene with my girl Lauren he says 'always end on a high note I say' quoting Owen with an English accent, now I don't know about everyone else but I think it's a sign that he is no longer heart broken by the thought of Owen but can look back on his memories with Owen and smile because he has developed in a way that he knows he won't truly be able to forget his relationship with Owen but now remembers it in a nostalgic sort of positive way.

Wait, WHAT?!?!?!?!!?!?! YOU'RE NOT MESSING WITH US??????????? THERE'S GOING TO BE A SEQUEL?!?!?!!?!!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!!?!?!?
THey said in the livestream maybe but not until at least Winter 2017.
They also may do a prequel instead.
YES!!!!!!! That could be so great!
Curt and Owen's big gaycation?
You're reading in my mind! Best line ever: "What about our secret? It's time to share. Feelings we had... to each other.". Let's ship them ^^
Wait so is Curt Mega his real name?... THATS FUCKING AWSOME!!!
you know it ;)
***** dude... just... i want to be your friend!
+Curt Mega -Agent- Curt Mega
Just like Joey in MAMD. Same name, different people
Yess! That's why it was so funny when Richard Big said "Well Mr. Curt Mega, if THAT'S YOUR REAL NAME!"
I really hope the Live and Let Spy thing isn't just there for laughs I would do almost anything to see another spies are forever musical
Me tooooooo o o o oo-
Omg I cannot express how much I love this show and how important it was to me.
I saw and laughed at the ambiguity
But as a pan person, hearing a queer main character be open about their sexuality without it being a big thing is amazing. Ester did it in Solve It Squad, and it made me so happy; this even more so.
Thanks tcb!
I need either a prequel about how him and owen were before as a couple, or a sequel about Kurt dating a guy Tatiana found for him
It's great to see that Lydia Bennet found something she's passionate about: Musicals! ;)
THAT'S WHERE I KNOW HER FROM
OOOOOHHH THAT'S WHO SHE IS
So many people give Spy Dance so much hate- man it just gives me a lotta joy- like, it's one of those songs where as soon as I hear it I start dancing around, I love it
Was it Lauren who choreographed that last number?
She choreographed all the dance numbers!
They're all brilliant!
+The Tin Can Brothers AWESOME WORK
Honesty the prop cigarette had me fooled really well in this show, it literally looks so realistic except for the few moments where you can see the metal ring around where Lauren holds it. Likely the prop e cigs
they all bowed so in character wtf
I. Am.
PLOT TWIST: The old man is Owen.
Honestly seen this soooo many times and is one of my fav musicals, idk if its Lauren and/or both walker's and joey's British accents or just everything I F***ING LOVE THIS MUSICAL AHHHH
Im glad at the end they did clarify this was a musical about spies. I wasnt quite sure
Have you seen any Shipwrecked projects?
Please let there be a prequel so we can see more Joey Richter with a British accent and see how curt and Owen got their six minute best
This, and Poe Party are the some of the highlights of my summer. Thank you.
So glad they timed it the way they did.
Everything about this musical was so well made and executed. It was spectacular.
It’s been three years and I’m still waiting for a sequel.....
Headcanon that Cynthia fully knows Curt is gay and continues to employ him, not out of allyship or friendship, but out of a feud with J Edgar Hoover
Curt: Did my beard look ugly?
Tatiana: I think you don’t need a beard to look cool aka heck yeah!
AAAAAAH I'M DYING THE FEELS ARE REAL!!!!!
I'm sorry, your username. I cannot pass that up without comment 😂
but yes Ginny, Im a magical diary-shit-journal.
that is a wonderful username
I'm a magical diary - shit - journal! Love your name
You’re telling me that this whole thing was a musical about spies??? No wonder I had no idea what was going on!!! They really should have told us that before the very last scene, jeez
Old man Walker needs a walker 😂
Coconut Milk wait omg I love you
there needs to be a sequel in the 80's with lauren as the spy
"Spies are forever, it's a musical.. IT'S ABOUT SPIES" 😂
GUYS IS IT OVER AM I CRYING AHHH SPIES ARE FOREVER I LOVE YOU I LOVE THIS WHAT IS LIFE NOW
“SPIES ARE FOREVER IT’S A MUSICAL… IT’S ABOUT SPIES” is literally the perfect explanation of this musical
This was too emotional, it was so serious! I fuckign love it, I'm crying!
So I for some reason like to torture myself and count the number of coustume each has and how many times they change so...
Due to the dark lighting the characters in Spies are forever may not be completly accurate. There were two Russian men and i couldn't see who was playing them.

After Spotify recommended me The Torture Tango, I had to find out the context. This never failed to blow me away with the music, the plot twists, and the characters! There were a lot of times where I thought I knew exactly where a plot twist was going to be, and then it went in a completely different direction that I really should have seen coming. I'm definitely forcing my boyfriend to watch this with me now, because this is a masterpiece.
SO ICONIC SO UNIQUE I LOVE IT!! IT'S INCREDIBLE!
I just finished watching this for what must be the seventh time in maybe two or three months, and I'm just totally obsessed. This has inspired me to try so many different things in theatre at the moment, and it's just so brilliant I can't even explain how much I love it. I really hope I can do something like this one day.
This should have been a major Broadway musical production! But thank goodness it wasn't, or I would have never have been able to see it! I woke up my mom when Owen revealed himself. I should have seen that coming. Thank you for making this, I really enjoyed it!
5:07 🎶listen to your heart mega, listen to your heart, comb your hear and smile that’s a start🎶
I LOVED THIS SO MUCH!!! Especially because of all the Starkid members of the cast. They brought the same kind of humor into this show!
how have I gone all this time without knowing about this amazing musical. it’s been added to my list of musicals that made me cry
Check out Starkid and their list!!
Nerdy prudes must die, The guy who didn't like musicals and Black Friday.
A very Potter musical is where they first started. Xo
Why is no one talking about Joey at the end he was playing the air guitar!!
Please come back from the war, Spies are Forever... It's been a really hard year... I need this...
the fact this is an 8 people cast makes me scream it seems like there are so many different people on stage constantly
4:28 favorite quote from this musical
I was introduced to StarKid in April and since then, I've watched pretty much every video on the channel. And then I found your channel and, oh my god, it's really helped to fill the void! Thank you for making it available for free on TH-cam! You guys are all insanely talented and are making this lockdown a little more bearable.
hi from 2023! love the show so much, it's truly wonderful
Hello from the future? Sounds like Chimera technology…
Ok but "Its not so easy burying your ex lover who returned from the grave to kill you" is basically the whole plot of this musical if you think about it
i love how curt just murders owen as a breakup and they’re just vibing dancing together in spy dance
can we talk about hot great the sound design and the lighting design were?
just amazing!
"it's not easy burrying your ex-lover returned from the grave to kill you"
truer words have never been spoken
