I was so touched by the story of your mother. As dementia began to creep in to my mother's mind, she became convinced that my husband - whom she dearly loved - had stolen two coffee mugs. The set of mugs was only four, but she was certain there had been six and that he was a thief. She began leaving angry, vitriolic voicemails. I reacted with anger at first, but as the calls continued, I began sympathizing. "It must be so frustrating to discover things missing." She would agree. I would find another point of agreement, and another. As she softened, I would lovingly begin reminding her of my husband's love for her, and his kindness. She eventually stopped accusing him and even called him to apologize. In her mind, things began disappearing and she was convinced someone was stealing from her, but her accusations shifted away from family. Your talk made me recognize what growth we find in these difficult moments. To dig deep to find love amid the rubble of anger is an exercise in awakening.

I have listened to many of your talks over the past few months, and they always spoke to me. But tonight, this brought together so many of my recent musings, giving me inspiration and a way forward into my retirement. During the reflection and the meditation, I had the most remarkable feeing of connectedness with everything in my world, accompanied by an intense desire to just “be” with it. Thank you.

I got tears as you were reading the John Lennon verses, several people I talked to today were very much aware of the destruction of the biosphere, and one elderly woman said we're finished! many years ago my dear friend and I began referring to all other living beings as persons, and it made such a big difference in so many ways. thank you

1:14:21 As someone who struggles with the effects of trauma, I notice a lot of my focus is often on what happened in the past and the many ways it has shaped who I am today. Expanding the lens brings more belongingness to my pain and helps me see what’s good and alive in myself and in the people around me.

    • @Kelpy

Understanding, revisiting, examining, and having conversations in my mind with the perpetrators of the traumatic violence I suffered has been a miraculous road to whatever enlightenment and better perspective on life I have achieved.

    • @Otterbandana

I would love to hear how to walk the balance of allowing oneself to move through trauma and address the perpetrators while staying in presence & gratitude with what is now. Listening to Tara helps me. Connecting with the aliveness on the planet helps me. Maybe a consciousness for when I choose to talk (in my mind) with those who have caused hurt…. much has happened lately and I am more raw and prone to get lost in the hurt. Seeking ways to find that balance. I welcome any thoughts on what others do to strike a balance between welcoming or accepting what was in the past as a part of me. I can see the value in it intellectually. I’m afraid I’ll get lost in it emotionally.

I have always had that feeling that the flora and fauna are real persons. As a 10 year old kid, when my father cut off small aspens, I took each of them and ran holding them high up for them to still be able for the last time to (havista in Finnish) = to move their leaves and to make the typical noice for aspens. 😅 My parents let me do it. They knew me.❤❤❤

Ajahn Brahmali said in ancient India they believed plants had one sense, that of feeling, so they complained to the the Buddha who made a rule that monks couldn't damage plant life, and for the same reason, not dig, because they imagined the earth had the sense of touch. He said it was more of an adaptation to the culture than something the Buddha specifically said is bad karma.
