    This video is an #COMPLETELYUNBIASEDRVREVIEW of the 2021‪@nucamprv‬ specifically the T@B 400 with some of the #boondocking package.
    This is a #LightWeightTravelTrailer capable of being towed by smaller vehicles so it allows folks to get out and enjoy without necessarily having to spend a bunch on a new truck. We loved the size and the finishings. The wet bath was very impressive and we really liked the windows. We aren't so sure about the complicated Alde system that seems to take up too much space in the small trailer. We also thought moving to a roof A/C system could help with space saving but it would also add height to the impressive dimensions of this trailer. You could easily put this in a garage.
    We felt this trailer would be great for the weekender/vacationer but we felt that for a RV Sometimer, full-timer or snowbird it was just too small and really did not have enough storage for extended time periods. It is perfect for a couple or #solotraveller and you could even fit a kid or 2 for short durations.

    I'm glad that we bought a 2018 Tab 400. Except for a few details, the older model has far better ergonomics and storage space inside and out. The bed is an RV Queen and is always in place. We do not have a built in microwave, but we have room for a "college" size one. We have a smaller fridge but have a full hanging closet with bins on the side and a door. All woodwork (in both models) is by the local Amish in Ohio where these are made. They are a GREAT Product and is extremely well made.

      Awesome, it's always good to hear from an owner. It sounds like your floor plan was not the Solo which comes with the smaller fridge but way more storage and the different bed configuration. It's nice to know that it works so well for you. Do you have the Alde heating system? If you do we'd love to hear your experience with it. Thanks for watching. and sharing.

      @@DoesSizeMatter All the TaB400s (from 2017-2021) have the Alde heating system, as does the TaB 3020s built during this period. Earlier TaBs did not have the Alde system. Not sure when it was added to the 320, but all the 400s have the Alde, a d from 2019 on they added the Alde Flo tank for Addison water.

      You need to start documenting your life. Start a utube channel and start getting paid. I will soon become a solo female RV'er but want to do more boon docking in far off places. Not sure what camper/RV to buy yet, plus I have no money. I have to save and sell everything to get money. I'm 63 and barely affording rent. Still working 9 to 5 to live a miserable poor life. Rent keeps one poor! Living in an RV but not on an expensive RV lot would be ideal, which is why I'll need a boondocking package. So sick of this lifestyle we're told is "normal". Its not normal to be ear-high in debt and have nothing to show for it. I hope to be able to buy an RV I can live in fulltime in good and bad (cold) weather. Praying this happens in my future! Best of luck to you.

    Might have been mentioned somewhere below but the dining area can be configured like a couch which is slightly different than the extra bed setup. I leave mine in that configuration since most of my eating is done outside. Love my 400.

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment. We have reviewed 2 T@B400s now (1 is still in the line up to be published) but both had the same dinette/sleeping arrangement in it and in order to have the centre cushion down the table had to become the base making it into a small sleeping area that could easily act as a lounging couch, by putting a throw pillow against the wall, with a small table space as well. You just wouldn't be able to put your legs down in that space. That's why we love small space/rv living. Manufacturers have to be so clever at making spaces super versatile. Thanks for watching

      We are so happy you like them. We will add a link in the video description to a currency converter as we have been asked to convert the price before but for us to do it would be inaccurate as the rates change daily so thanks for the idea to add the link. Showers do not have standard heights and manufacturers don't state those numbers, that's why I stand in the shower and raise my arms so people can get and idea of it. Hope that helps. I'm so glad you did a Tab400 review! I've been really eyeing one of these as an alternative to an Airstream Bambi or Caravel as their layout and use of space seems to be really well thought out. What did you think about the interior build quality and finishing compared to the Airstreams?

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We are thrilled we could help you out some. We think the interior build quality is pretty comparable between the two. If it is a toss up for you between them the areas we think you might want to consider are more about where you want to take it? This particular T@B 400 had the Boondock package which has a pitched axle and 15" tires so the clearance is going to be better than the Airstreams. The Airstreams are also heavier but allow for more CCC. They both have good windows but in our opinion you can't beat the Airstream windows. The Airstreams have more head room, if that matters to you, no big deal for us. The Airstreams have more storage and we would prefer the heating and cooling systems of the Airstream but, here it is, the Airstreams cost more! So if off roading and price matter to you than the T@B 400 boondock is a great option. Just our thoughts hopefully helpful ones. If not throw them out and watch another video to find what works for you. These are such individual decisions. Let us know what you decide. Either way you are going to have a tonne of fun. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @JerryTLai
      @JerryTLai 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DoesSizeMatter Kory and Denise, thanks for the amazingly thorough reply! I'm pleased to hear the build quality is pretty comparable for both. I do like better clearance and theoretically better off the beaten path performance of the TAB. It's hard to beat the mystique and allure of the Airstream though. Sounds like I will just have to spend some time in both to make an informed decision. I think you said in other videos you really need to spend more than just a sit down in a trailer to really get a feel. Awesome work on your channel, and thanks again!

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JerryTLai That is exactly what you need to do. Be weird and go to a dealership and open everything, set up the beds, lie on them, make a list of all the things you would be bringing and decide where they would go and how you would use the space. Ideally rent one but we know that can be expensive and isn't always possible. Just tell the salesman you need a few hours of uninterrupted time to really get a feel for it and we know about that Airstream allure, is sucks us in every time we are near one. Let us know how it goes.

    While lighter in weight overall than many trailers, the tongue weight on the Tab400 has been traditionally very high. I understand they moved again the a/c unit from under the bed to the front but moved the axle slightly forward to reduce the tongue weight on the 2021 model. Even with that, I don't believe that a vehicle with a 5K lb towing capacity will handle this trailer easily and safely when climbing. On flats it may be ok, but if planning to climb, I would opt for a larger vehicle. My opinion only here.

    • @josephversace5895
      @josephversace5895 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bekanne, a year or two ago, Tab moved the a/c unit from the front to under the bed, but the unit they used was fraught with issues. I saw somewhere that they went back to the KoolKat and moved it back under the dinette (I think I have this correct, but it can be checked). Anyhow, I viewed videos of the 2019 and 2020 models where folks said the tongue weight pushed 450 lbs, pretty much rendering a vehicle with a tow capacity of 5000 lbs risky. Further, I understand that you shouldn't use a weight distribution hitch with a car-based SUV. Further, I checked with a TH-camr who pulls his Tab 400 with a Toyota Highlander and says it's not good on hills; another used a 4Runner and said it was fine (both 5K lb capacity). I opt for certainty in this situation, so I was very interested in a Tab 400 until I found all of this out basically because I'd prefer traveling with an SUV pulling trailer with limited storage capacity.

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are right they did move the a/c back up front, there would be no room under that bed. In our research we also found some discussion about the axel being moved forward on the 2021 to help with the issue you are describing. nuCamp is now quoting the wet tongue wt to be 372lbs 2021. We steer away from discussing which vehicles should or could be towing what as this is an entirely different topic then our channel focuses on (although extremely important and complimentary) We always refer folks to Big Truck Big RV for information on towing as he really is the specialist on the topic and explains it well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching.

      Well different folks call it different things and that is ok. The reason we don't start with dry weight is because we would never want you to think that is the number you should use to determine your tow vehicle. You should not worry about the dry wt, make sure you can handle the GVW. We would be happy to have you if you would like to subscribe. Thanks for watching.

    How much is the empty weight and you forgot to mention this is amish-made these trailers are very very well-constructed you get what you pay for it looks great. I guess I need more technical answers because there are a thousand videos out there people walking through these campers. I don't need lots of storage if I'm going to be out in the wilderness some drawers and some jeans are just fine. And also don't need to be Towing some atrocity behind my vehicle. It's all relative if I'm looking at a small trailer of course it's not going to have lots of storage if you need that you don't need to be looking at a teardrop trailer.

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will find more of the information you are looking for in our Construction video th-cam.com/video/SrwFxPRNqVg/w-d-xo.html where we discuss more of the technical aspects. We don't get into which groups of people construct different brands but yes Amish craftsmanship is great. The thing is most RVs are made in the vicinity of Elkhart which has a very large population of Amish who we see working on a wide variety of products in almost every plant. Small trailers or tear drops are not just for folks who want to be in the wilderness. They may be attractive for different reasons to various types of travellers in different types of RV lifestyles, so we get that your wants, needs and priorities may not include storage but for someone else it may, so it is always an important topic to discuss. As for larger RVs being an 'atrocity' that would be just your personal opinion and clearly one wouldn't be right for you but could be perfect for someone else and should not be put down. It's completely ok for a buyer to be looking for a small trailer with storage. Hope this helps you out some or let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks for watching

    I own a 2018 T@B 400 and love it! It is a very well built camper. Two things I will say. It is a small camper but still heavy. At 3500 lbs, when fully loaded, it cannot be moved by the attached handles and cannot be towed by a small vehicle. Also, the black and gray tanks are not insulated making this camper a 3 season camper. This is a great camper and I recommend it to anyone interested in a small camper.

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are so glad to hear you are loving your T@B 400. We agree it is small but that is what folks are often looking for when they are checking out a teardrop. We hear you about the weight. When we are talking about a smaller tow vehicle we are not talking about all vehicles but of those that tow RVs you could tow the T@B 400 with some on the smaller end, such as a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Of course a RAV4 or minivan just isn't going to cut it. As for the tanks, you are right they were not insulated but we believe it did have some heating pads (although we are waiting for further confirmation on that), the thing is there was openings in the frame that exposed the tank to the outside air which obviously has a negative impact on any heating those pads do??? Hope that clarifies what we were saying and thanks for making the point from an owner's perspective. We love to hear what you think. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts

Power cables. Not wasted on a silly aluminium box.. fold down sinks and taps are not new at all we had these inbtge 1970 very similar design.
    Where the over coojet extractor? U should have one always.
    It should have a three wsy frudge freezer come on 3 way systems have been ysed for donkeys years. Our 1980 van had 3 way fridge, gas 12v, 240v
    That is not a light weight caravan infact at near 1.7 metric tons it a large mid size European unit
    For this weight we would be looking at 20 plus foot in length mire storage 1 fixed double bed good size bathroom. Its not well finished inside.

      @DoesSizeMatter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So sorry we are having trouble reading and understanding your comment. Possibly there may be some translation issues. So we will do our best from what we think you are saying. We do believe that nuCamp is trying to keep the hitch weight down on this rig and that is why you are getting less front storage then we may all have wished for. What is considered mid-large in Europe is easily considered small in N.A. because we have much larger tow vehicles and roads to accommodate larger rigs. This is a smaller N.A. trailer. Fold down sinks and taps are wonderful ideas and have not been commonly used here but they are growing in popularity now. We are not familiar with the cooljet system you are discussing. Maybe you could send us some literature on it to doessizematter99@gmail.com Which type of fridge to choose is a common discussion with folks lobbying hard on each side with valid points. We think this is a very individual decision depending on what your personal preferences and travel style are. True there are lighter weight trailers out there but they offer something different. There may even be lighter weight rigs that offer the same in Europe but alas we are not in Europe and don't have those choices here. Although we would love to come to Europe, learn about these rigs, review them and try them out. If you know anyone who wants to work with us on that we'd love to chat. Hope this answers some of your concerns. Thanks for watching.

      @@DoesSizeMatter Europe/UK towing standards and US are much different, due to the highway speed we tow trailer,ers at here in the US (and Canada) we are nuts doing this. As a result, we need to have. Minimum of 10-15% of the total trailer weight on the tongue. In Europe and UK, tongue weight is much less. You can pickup the front of a EU TaB with one hand. This is doable cause they use a different draw bar setup and tow at slower (more reasonable) towing speeds, and a have different driver’s license requirements for different size trailers. These restrictions keep the size and weight down on the EU trailers.
