I have had the ECM Puristika for the past 10 months. The separate glass water reservoir is not an issue at all (you have flexibility of where to put it) and I think it adds to the unique aesthetic of this espresso machine . I looked at the Profitec Go and it looks and feels cheap compared to the superior build quality of the Purisitka. I paid approximately $2,000 Canadian Dollars for it and feel I got solid value for it. I only drink espresso so this is the perfect machine for me - I love the coffee that it makes.

I genuinely appreciate the "espresso only" concept of this machine, as I don't consume milk. I'm sure there are many others around the world who share my preference. However, due to market demands, most brands design machines to cater to the majority of consumers, which often means including features like steam wands or advanced models with dual boilers, such as the Bianca-features that I personally never use. I find it frustrating to have to pay extra for functions I don’t utilize, especially when they also take up valuable counter space. This is why I love my Flair 58 so much; it allows me to fine-tune the coffee’s flavor by adjusting pressure, pre-infusion, and timing-without needing to rely on milk

Bro does an interview with sales representative and thinks he's done a review. Also, ECM is based in Germany not Italy...😂

We’ve had the ECM Puristika for six months, replacing the Gaggia Classic Pro that has been an amazing machine in our home for years. We wanted an E61 group for temp stability. While the Classic was a workhorse, it requires purge before every extraction otherwise you chance super boiling water extraction, additionally if you leave the machine on it’ll burn the water & coffee remains and offer up a funky taste until you clean and backflush. The ECM Puristika has been spot on consistent in literally every cup we brew, it’s a beautiful machine, high quality, and produces a superior cup of coffee. The only item I question (because it’s about time for this) is descaling process. Typically you’re purging descaling solution out of the steam wand and avoiding the group head but with there being no steam wand, I’m searching for an approved process to descale. Outside of that question, this is one of the best espresso machines for the money as long as you don’t drink the milk drinks, and yes we have a milk frother just in case that occasion pops up.
One last comment, I love the insight but you seriously need to use the machine for a week or two before you suggest this is a review.

Fair point. I'll change the title to say first look.

I bought this machine to replace the gaga classic pro. It does a far better job in making consistent espressos. In our household nobody drinks milk based coffee, so it's perfect for our needs.
I do like the external water reservoir. It's good to be able to see the water level en cleanliness of the water. I'm happy with it. Cheers from Holland!

As an owner of the machine, I do enjoy the machine very much. You can get flow control for the E61 group to do flow profiling. I like the water reservoir tho it looks a bit weird from behind but from the front it’s beauty

@ 9:00 "set pressure before extraction not during" for reasons .... [inaudible]. The manual says just don't adjust pressure during extraction. So do I assume that a blind basket and test run needed to set desired pressure? Or go through multiple test extractions making guesses on pressure knob adjustment before each pull? Found the perfect pressure? ....better get the marker out. I think if I got one I'd figure out an optimal pressure setting once then consider removing the knob to avoid people twiddling something they don't understand. Setting pressure easily is a great idea. Too easily may not be such a great idea, especially with the risk of [inaudible].

🤣 🤣 "cause problems here". Basically it can blow up in your face.
Yeh unfortunately you just have to waste coffee finding the right extraction pressure for the coffee you like.

Is it really realistic to expect an E61 based machine with PID and ECM build quality at a similar price point to a Gaggia Classic Pro? Personally I bought this machine because I wanted those things and didn't want to pay more for a machine that does milk frothing. Yes, I do occasionally have guests that like milky coffee, but a £20 milk frother does the job just fine as far as I'm concerned. I agree that the OPV is not particularly useful, but it's better to have it on the front than hidden away somewhere.

Thanks for your insights! I just feel like between the Casa V and the Classika, they could have found a price point more in the middle for this machine or added more features for the espresso purist. I drink mostly black coffee but I still want to impress my friends with silky lattes. Heating your milk in the microwave to add to a frother for subpar milk isn't an excuse ECM should be using to ignore the fact that occasionally you might need to make a milk coffee.
I drink long black/ Americano too but they don't have the hot water either. It's just an interesting market segment they've gone for here.
I'm grateful to have this discussion though as it's just my opinion and that's why I wanted to hear from customers like yourself! 🙏☺️

@@Rydecoffeecoach all fair points. I was always very clear that I was only interested in making espresso - it's only rarely that I get asked to make a milky coffee and I don't really have an interest in developing that technique. My wife drinks americanos but I just use the kettle to get hot water for that.
Anyway I'm very pleased with the machine. I really wanted to try an E61 based machine and there aren't many of those at this price point, at least not in the UK market.

To be honest, if I was just a 'spro drinker, I'd lean towards the Flair 58. If you have cash to splash, might as well grab a spring lever such as the Argos (which Lance uploaded a day ago) or a good ol' La Pavoni.

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

I think you misunderstood the machine. Obvs. designed is always subjective to personal preference, therefore the tank feature or overall design is purely opinion based but after all we watched this video to see your opinion on it! The critique of it being no good for milkdrinks is like complaining about a Ducati only having two wheels.
On the performance: the performance its awesome the integrated pid, expansion valve…. work perfectly and consistent as it well ever get. Especially when paired with a E61 flow control.
The only negative i can have found using this machine is the bottom limitation of 8bars, i cant see why the expansion valve wouldn’t be build to go at least down to 6 bars. That is a big one to me

That opv knob not being able to use it while brewing is extremely annoying.

I agree, I think it would be much better to just come fitted with a pressure profiler which might only be an extra $500 to include. I just don't think an opv is what everyone wants.
