  • Today I finally do a car review, and the first car I'll be reviewing is my 2004 Lexus LS430 with the ultra luxury package. This is hands down one of the best cars I've ever owned, and I think it's one of the best cars to buy, even today. They're inexpensive, and immensely reliable.
    You can easily find LS430's with well over 300K miles on them still running perfectly fine on the original engine and transmission. Maintenance on these cars is minimal. Every 10 years or 100K you'll have to change the timing belt and water pump and I always recommend the serpentine belt, transmission fluid and radiator and hoses as well. Even if you pay someone else to do it, you're looking at about $1,000. That's $100 per year in major maintenance. Pair that with a cheap oil change because the Lexus LS430 only uses about 5 quarts of oil, and you have an overall trouble-free car.
    But it isn't just reliable, it's smooth, quick, and luxurious and has more features than a lot of cars of today! Does your car have rear reclining/massage seats or a cooled box for beverages? Didn't think so.
    There are 5 different trims for the LS430:
    Lexus LS430 Base
    Lexus LS430 Premium Package
    Lexus LS430 Modern Luxury (ML)
    Lexus LS430 Custom Luxury (CL)
    Lexus LS430 Ultra Luxury (UL)
    Today, we'll be looking at the Ultra Luxury package. In a future video, we'll compare the differences between trims as well as the differences between pre-facelift Lexus LS430's of 2001-2003 in the US and the Facelift Lexus LS430's of 2004-2006, also US spec. I hope you enjoy my

      There is a tire pressure reset button under the dash in the drivers footwell. Car needs to be stopped in park and handbrake on, hold the reset button untill the warning light goes out and hold it again untill a message pops up on the dash(I don't know what it reads as my car is a celsior and I don't know japanese) after that drive the car for a bit to confirm it reset properly.

    I have a 2005 LS430 and was informed by a friend, who sells exotic woods, that the interior trim is Camphor wood. Also, the mufflers have always been made of stainless steel, so its unlikely to have been replaced. I love mine!

    The rear massage seats buttons: keep pressing or hold the button in order to increase the speed/intensity of the massage. Open the rear armrest for access to the rear cooled and heated seats and rear sunshade buttons.

    When the suspension is set to "High", the car does not lower while driving; it remains elevated. At first, the 430 may not seam sporty, but once you get use to it, you will see that it will definitely hold planted when when pushed hard💪🏽💪🏽. The seats are cooled; the compressor actually turns on when they are set to cool. There are filters for the front seats, rear seats, and refrigerator which should be changed. The rear shad will go back up after 60 seconds or you drive over 20 mph.

  • @jasonholt9239
    @jasonholt9239 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Inside the "cooler box" there is a sliding door at the top that opens and closes to allow the a/c air to flow.

    Great video! I have watched a few 2004 LS 430 videos recently to get the full picture and really enjoyed your review. My dad bought this car in 2016 and then I lost him this year. I drove the car home 1100 miles after laying him to rest. All I can say is dad had great taste in reliable, smooth vehicles. He was so proud of purchasing this car and excited beyond belief to share all the cool features. I can only say this car has been an absolute pleasure to drive. Sport plus power mode is amazing. I can see how special this car is after using it as my daily driver. And of course it means so much more for what it meant to my dad. I’m excited to take care of this beautiful and reliable vehicle going forward.

    This video is excellent! This is the most in depth video on an UL I've seen. Nice work! I learned some things I would have never noticed, like the storage under the seats. I just got an 04 ML with 247k on it 4 days ago to be my new daily driver. One of the few vehicles I would buy with that many miles. I think I need to do valve cover gaskets, front shocks, and will probably do the timing belt in the near future too. I can't get over how QUIET and smooth these are. Love it!

    • @ToolDeals
      @ToolDeals  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Exactly! And those things are cheap to do. The timing belt can be a bit expensive if you go to the dealer or something, but it only needs to be done every 100K or 10 -12 years (realistically). If you do it yourself it's cheap and it's not hard. Just a lot keeping up with the screws, but everything is right there in your face. Valve cover gaskets are a common thing. I haven't needed to replace those on either LS yet. Thanks for watching! And sorry about the ads, lol. TH-cam did that, I just saw how many they added and deleted half of them.

    • @tylerkrieger912
      @tylerkrieger912 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ToolDeals No worries on the ads! I honestly didn't even notice. I am looking forward to doing the timing belt lol as crazy as that sounds I did one on my 93 Accord a few years ago and the transverse engine made that really close quarters. Having a RWD car again is great so far it has been very easy to work on.

Certainly, everybit as good as Hoovie, Demuro, and other top notch reviewer but with your own style. I very smooth and informative review. Man that means A LOT! Thank you! I also like the styling of the 460's better, but struggled to find one with an interior that held up. It was so bad with those that Lexus replaced people's door trim and dashboard! Talk about service! So a lot of them look good again, but I wonder how long that will last? Anyway, thanks for the awesome vote of confidence! It's cool today so I should start making more car videos soon!

    This is when Lexus was at their best with the LS. I have a 2004 model with 181,000 miles, and I have had it since 2013. For me, this is the best daily drive car ever. Even after all these years of ownership, it brings a smile to me every time I drive it. The mid-range torque is amazing, and enough to get you out of hurry. That plus comfort, style, and reliability is all we need. This is not a race car, and it doesn't need to be one.

      If going for a newer LS I'd recommend the 460. Toyota hybrids are among the most reliable, but they won't be more reliable than their regular V8. You'd be surprised at the mileage these big cars with V8's get though. On the highway using 91 no ethanol, I got 26 mpg. I can't find non ethanol now though and average on highway about 22/23 mpg.

The car seems too fast as it is for the way it handles (although I didn't have it in sport mode in the video) I've done it before and it's still unnerving. You'll definitely need some coilovers and to lower it a bit. I'd also get wider tires 235's would make a noticeable difference. I have 235's on my 02 LS430.

    The tire pressure monitoring system operates off the ABS. If the tires are ever changed or taken off for any reason the system has to be reset. There is a button underneath the dash by your right knee that will reset it.

      Problem with mine is I also have a slow leak in a tire I forget about until I go to drive the car, lol. Mine might go away after fixing that, but there are many other LS owners whose lights are just on and even the dealer has a hard time permanently resetting it. But yeah, before I knew about the slow leak, I used that button. I also forgot to mention that one can change the volume of the alarm arming chirp with the volume knob beside that button.
      I'm going to give the car a full on "Feature" video. It deserves it. Just way too much to talk about... IN A 17 YEAR OLD CAR! My wife just rented a 2021 Passat and she couldn't wait to get back in her 02 LS

    There are about 50 additional setting for the LS430 which can only be adjusted/changed at the dealership. Ex, the daytime driving lamps can actuall be set to off, mirror/lamps can be set longer/shorter, driver or all doors to unlock by handle, etc..

    Nice video! I have a 2004 UL 80,000 miles. Something I figured out that other owners may want to know. The I AGREE SCREEN. I also find any navigation system in a vehicle that does not connect to my phone useless. Go into settings on the touch screen and turn off the display screen. When you start the car the Lexus logo will appear and the screen will go blank after a few seconds with no I AGREE message ever appearing. If you push climate control or audio you can make any adjustments or changes you want and after about 10 seconds the screen will go blank again. However if you use the map/navigation the display screen will go back to default on.

    You had my wife and me sitting here fallin off the couch a few times, especially when you got in the trunk and said you could have a picnic back there 🤣!
    Anyway, we're talking to a dealership close to Charlotte, NC about a 2002 LS 430 (we live in western Ky) and it's not the ultra luxury model but I don't believe it's the base model either, not sure which one it is but it has a few issues. It has 158,000 miles on it and the navigation doesn't work. I think it states something like disk read error or something like that, it probably either needs a disk cleaner ran through the disk rom player/box in the trunk or it needs the whole disk rom player/box replaced(I see a few used ones on Ebay from about $50 up to $400). Also the backup camera doesn't work, I'm not sure what that would be but I need to search info on it online and on TH-cam and see if I can figure out what might be the issue with that but the climate controls on the touch screen does work. One thing I forgot to ask the man at the used car dealership is if the radio works in it because my plan is to fly there and drive the car back (about 8 hrs) and I'm not looking forward to that if the stereo won't play some tunes. I'm not really that worried about that part of it though because we're going to put an aftermarket stereo in it not too far in the future anyway, they even have a 13 inch screen Tesla style touch screen for these that operates the climate control, backup camera, stereo, etc etc but they're around $500 or $600 and I need to research them more because I'm reading that they have some glitches or something like that with them. Maybe they have or will get a software update soon to remedy it, I don't know. Another issue, which probably isn't a big deal, is that they don't have the key remote for it. The last issue, which again is probably pretty simple, is the door lock actuator on the passenger side doesn't work like you mentioned. Other than those issues I believe that's about all that's wrong with it. It's the crystal white color with the tan leather interior and it's in fantastic shape other than a couple of small rock chips in the paint, an easy (but high quality) touch up job should take care of that.

      Nah they don't. The GS is a lower tier. But why the aversion to the V8? This is one of the most reliable motors of all time. They're good on gas, depending on your altitude and ethanol content you can get over 25 mpg with ordinary driving. I get that on the highway now. It's also plenty powerful. The only thing that turns some people off to it is the timing belt, but it's not bad at all to change. It can be done in a day no problem. Very easy car to work on for that major maintenance.

Thinking of a 2nd car. I’ve had the Cadillac Seville and Buick Lucerne cxs with the infamous NorthStar. Seville blew up overheated after it was stolen and the thieves stole a car that already had cooling system issues, they didn’t pop the trunk to add more Dexcool 🤦🏾‍♂️😂. The Lucerne I actually took to from 41k up to 172k!! 2rack & pinions and that 2nd one was leaking bcm failure left me stranded.and of all things the transmission had hard stunts of out nowhere at about 172k That’s when I parked that mf couldn’t trust it. I do miss that 98 sts rode like butter on top of that I came from a lowered civic into Cadillac. Talk about a night a day difference in ride quality OMG 😂😂😂 I need that quality back I need this car before it’s too late and I feel like that time is coming. Well it's been parked since October but that's really a me thing. I hit a pot hole and it blew the passenger strut. I can still drive it but it wobbles all over the place when you hit any little bump. So I've been trying to replace the strut but the strut bolt is completely seized on. Since it was getting cold I just drove my other LS430. It's warming up and I still couldn't get that bold off so I'm just going to replace the lower control arms... they're original and showing a little bit of wear. While I'm at it going to replace the ball joints too. So if you'd count that as an issue, but that was totally the fault of the roads. As far as the car itself I've had zero issues with it and up until the end of October it was my daily driver. Drive it any and everywhere! Not a single problem. Over the summer I put 10,000 miles on it, LOL. Had to change the oil twice in 6 weeks! The car is THAT good.

I’m scared of the air suspension even though I changed out my Buick’s air shocks on the rear to some $50 pair of Monroe shocks and thew on a resister to bypass the light on the dash and it rode damn nears the same. That’s really only biggest thing to be scared on the UL besides all the other normal maintenance things is those air shocks right?

    Enjoyed your thoughts. I drive an '04 and it might as well be a new car the way it takes care of me. I, too, have to be watchful of my speed in this vehicle---so easy to creep up towards 90 if I'm not paying attention! The thing simply cruises effortlessly. I used to think the UL was what I needed, but realized that I spend zero time in the rear seats and the suspension can be a repair liability. I'm not sure if you mentioned this, but are you only fueling with premium?

    • @ToolDeals
      @ToolDeals  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed! Agree... The CL, to me is the best trim for most people. All the other amenities aside from the rear seat package and air suspension. I bought this car JUST to do a comparison video to my other LS430 which I haven't done yet. But it's the daily. My other only has 84K on it and I don't drive it as much.
      But YES, YES YES. It's what it calls for lol. A lot of people don't do that though. It can handle it for short amounts of time, but nothing you really want to do long-term. I mean, the car is so good and you can grab one in great condition for less than 10K, why not put premium in it? Insurance is cheap too. Great car to own, and as you said, might as well be better than new forreal. My wife just rented a 2021 Passat and she said it drove horribly and didn't have half the features our 02 ML LS430 has. It had Blind spot monitoring, bluetooth for media, and lane departure correction, but she said she'd never choose those over the ride, comfort and speed of the LS!

      @@ToolDeals Good to know your thought on fuel. I do use premium, but this time of year gets me anxious as gas prices soar. I came from driving a small car that got 37mpg just last summer so filling the tank now leaves me a bit breathless lol
      Oddly, the drivers door lock motor has broken, so for this and other repairs I try to decide whether or not to use the dealership. Probably won't for the lock, but I did use the dealership recently to have the car's FIRST transmission fluid change done. I figured it was important enough to be done by someone who sees these 430's regularly. To that end, my local mechanic is very good, but the dealership has 50+ LS430's coming in monthly for service... I figure having that kind of regular experience with these cars has some benefit in (hopefully) getting critical fixes done right.
      You probably notice this too---just how many 430 owners are in your neighborhood! I'm pleasantly surprised that there are 3 other 430's within a 4 block radius. It's fun to chat with these folks! The car lives on and on....

      Facebook marketplace of all places! Then that led me to the dealer website and I saw more photos there.

    • @ToolDeals
      @ToolDeals  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL, I did. When I went back to watch it, it caught my attention too but I meant the "armrest storage" is cooled.

    Is it a timing belt? Not a timing chain?

    • @ToolDeals
      @ToolDeals  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Belt. The LS460s have chains.

    Brother how about fuel economy

    • @ToolDeals
      @ToolDeals  ปีที่แล้ว

      I LOVE IT! Takes premium, yes... but for its age? I average 26 mpg and I cruise around 70mph. But I do live in Kansas now lol, so it's mostly wide open roads. But when I was in St. Louis I still averaged 25 mpg.

    04-06 LS 430 looks better than the LS 460 and the new LS 500 I think the new model is ugly

    • @ToolDeals
      @ToolDeals  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. Sometimes I see 460's that look good, and then I can see one of the same year and it look... meh... The new ones look like Honda's at certain angles and for that kind of money, I don't want to look like nobody's Accord.

      Chris TV 😂😂 I’m just disappointed they got rid of the V8 for the LS 500
