I researched the maintenance/repair history of about 6 '04-'06 LS430. Each one had an amazing history of mechanical and electrical failures beginning in a couple years of service. I saw starter, fuel pump, valve springs, lash adjusters. they all had door lock actuator failures. Multiple times on some. And brakes? Don't expect more than 30k on brake pads at the very most. And the super expensive intermediate exhaust piece failed often. A CD deck failed on a car barely a few years old. Trunk lid motors failed, or needed to be re-timed, or the lid would not latch. Hood release cables corroded and failed. And these were cars receiving regular service at Lexus dealers. Some of this can be due to location in snow/salt States like IL and WI. But the number of breakdowns were amazing. And Lexus parts are very expensive. I went from interested, to "No way". I'm sure these are great to drive, but be prepared to spend a lot more than the price tag.

Problem is people don’t realize the most reliable car of all time still needs to me maintained and parts still fail on them and these parts cost a fortune so it’s not as hyped as people on the internet make it sound. A good solid warranty from a Lexus dealership is still a must or I wouldn’t touch this but suit yourself

Even if you can find a moderately good one.... just run the maintenance game on it!!! Toyos and Lexus are designed to succeed !!!! and have a friend with a scanner if issues arise!! lol
I've bought old school shit Toyos and drove them until they make most people uncomfortable.... had a friend say one time that you got your money's worth out of this... lol buy a decent set of Craftsman tools and watch TH-cam videos will push amateurs out in this game!!
I"ve owned 10 Toyos and half dozen American motor vehicles and BMW, Mercedes, and Volvo's and the only thing I would pair to a Toyota is a Volvo.... I do miss my old school VW's though... 2 microbuses and 1 Baja bug! Definitely, need to own a set of wrenches for them.... thank you; You Tube!!!!
I currently own a ''02 Tundra with 4.7 UZ2 motor and a '11 Lexus ES350, absolutely brilliantly engineered vehicles in my opinion!!
Looking tonight at an LS430 car.... I may buy this and park it at a friends house so my neighbors don't think I'm up to no good!!! lol

It’s older Lexus vehicles of this era in general. I’ve had my ‘04 LS430 for 6 years and added 65k miles to it, had an ‘01 LS430 for a year before my ‘04, and owned a ‘94 LS400 in the early 2000s. Meanwhile every LS460 I’ve driven has been nice and smooth and all... but Lexus of the mid 90s - mid 2000s is just another league entirely when it comes to the smooth, supple, refined experience. This era LS is just completely devoid of any engine or road vibration, harshness, and noise unlike anything else on the planet with the exception of Bentley.

I have one of these with 167,0000 miles. It is as smooth as it gets and can’t find a reason to replace it. Lexus began going downhill after 2007 especially in their LS line up. If you can find one of these, don’t hesitate to buy one. It still brings a smile to me every time I drive it even after seven years of ownership. Oh, literally anyone who sits in it compliments the ride quality and smoothness of it.

I have driven every Lexus model since 1990 and this is the best one. No I haven't driven the supercar one that costs $400,000, but I have driven all the rest. I recently purchased a 2006 LS430 Ultra Luxury with only 74,000 miles. It is the same color as the one in this video, it also has the ecru interior color and birds eye maple. My car has every bell and whistle available at the time and everything works perfectly. Simply amazing. Radar Cruise control, Pre Collision System, Rear Refrigerator, Power Reclining and Massaging Heating and Cooling Rear Seats. The Ultra even has more leather on the dash and the doors and higher quality leather. I have had extended time behind the wheel of the LS500. It is much sportier than my car but it is not as luxurious and comfortable. I have the air suspension and it is so smooth. The LS500 doesn't even come close to the ride of my car. I have driven the LS500 with the air suspension, and it is much better but it still can't touch the ride of the LS430 with air suspension.

@@ITm4n My LS has now 248k on it. I had a small coolant leak underneath the intake manifold that i took care of. While I was in there I removed the starter and had it freshened up by the local starter repair shop. Ive also replaced
every suspension part up front and almost everything in the rear minus one of the arms and upper control arms (was chasing down a noise and decided to replace a few parts to cover my basis).
When you go look at the car. Make sure you shine a flash light under the intake manifold to see if theirs any signs of red coolant leak. Look at the oil on the dipstick to make sure shes all clean. If you feel or hear any suspension noises ( especially in the rust belt states ) just assume that you will have to cut some bolts out as they might be seized inside the bushings. More then likely itll be the bolts that adjust camber and what not.
Also please make sure that the timing belt and components have been replaced. You can remove the top plastic cover from the engine. And remove the 3 or 4 bolts from the cam gear cover to check out the timing belt condition. If its cracked be careful. or if it looks a little glossy, assume you will have to tackle that aswell. Theirs a good video on TH-cam of this being done and its easy in mu opinion.
All of these repairs were worth it for me as i did everything my self and gpt this car riding like it should. Should be good for a good while now. I know all of this sounds lke a lot. But this is how these cars can last 500k+ miles. Take care of it and itll take care of you.

I also had problems with the power window controls, every time I’d roll down the passenger window it wouldn’t shut back and took at least 5 tries to get it closed all the way it would stop halfway. I also had to replace engine mounts the dipstick tube (leaking oil) charcoal canister sensor (vsc light). To say “this is the most reliable ever” would be an overstatement. It’s got plenty of problems of its own.!

My parents bought a 2006 brand new an drove it until last year. I bought it from them with 209,000'ish miles and I have put about 15,000 miles on it in the last year. Hands down this is the greatest car ever made.
Outside of maintenance in 18 years this vehicle has had nothing done to it. Like you said it is thee smoothest driving car of all-time. The leather seats I would argue are the greatest leather seats of all-time too.
The one thing I did do was removed the gps computer and replaced it with a Rhinos Radio which has Carplay and Android Auto built in. It was completely worth the $600. I hope to drive this vehicle another 200,000 miles and I am confident that 4.3L V8 and 6-speed auto will make it.

I can tell you, I’ve driven extremely low mileage examples, and my high mile LS still drives as good as those. They are an engineering masterpiece, and to me that’s a big part of why this car is so luxurious - the build quality and reliability, not to mention that engine. It’s not a luxurious experience if your car’s at the shop for repairs often. There’s nothing quite like an LS430. Also, that steering wheel is a common issue - the clear lacquer cracks from sunlight over the years, as it retracts right up in direct view to the sun.

I have an ‘05 with that optional sport suspension and 18’s. If you select ‘PWR’ mode on the dash switch, the suspension tightens up noticeably, and your back-road cornering is flat and tight - none of that interstate float. I was kind of hoping you would give that PWR option a try on your test car. Yes that raises the shift points as well, but the major thing you will notice is the suspension leveling. Otherwise you get the standard float. For me it’s like owning two different cars.

That is my old man car, currently have the ES but in my declining years, I want to go one step higher in class. The wind noise can be annoying but I think all new Lexi have that noise canceling technology that makes the cabin sound like......well, there is no sound. Btw, u had the shade to the sunroof open. Had u shut it, that would’ve greatly reduced the wind noise.

I never open my shade. I do it mostly to help preserve the interior from sun damage but it does really cut down on wind noise.

The horsepower was the same in 2006 they just changed the method used to rate it so it is advertised as a different number

I was fortunate enough to buy a 119k LS430 in 2019, garaged, from an elderly lady and keep it garaged. I haven't enjoyed driving this much since I was in my teens. I sold a 2018 Civic to get the 2003 Lexus and it felt like a huge upgrade.

That “hesitation” isn’t due to the 6 speed transmission... if you had looked down at the gauges you’d see the traction control light blinking because you were romping in it while still finishing your turns/u-turns. That super sensitive early/mid-2000s traction control was momentarily cutting you off at your drive-by-wire knees until you straightened up 😉

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Aside from that one instance, the rest of the time it was slow was because it is an early 2000s auto transmission, they all sucked it's not a big deal not meant to perform like a DCT

If I had more dough, I’d get an LS400, LS430, GS400, is300, IS350 and a GX470. That’s my Lexus dream team! I’ve had an LS400 and two GX470s. All reliable great vehicles. Currently on a Mazda kick (who knew they handled so great? I didn’t.... impressed) but will always have a soft spot for Lexus, my original “aspirational car” back in England in the 90’s growing up. When I moved to LA in 2000 I couldn’t beleive how common Lexus were! Kind of a rare breed in the uk, or used to be back in the day.

Have owned this car (same year model) since March. I've gone and done the big bucks preventative maintenance.. timing belt and a whole lot of internal engine components, and also done the rest of the lot (suspension stuff, tires, brakes etc.) Can't see myself selling this car, I'll be quite honest.. I already know I'm going to have immediate sellers remorse if I did ever do go down that route. This car is one of a kind. The admiration this car has is totally deserved.

Hey My friend, amazing review. My 2013 ES350 is up for sale. Now has 42k miles. Amazing condition but need to lower my payment. I have a big note remaining to be paid.
Looking to get into either an LS 430 like this one (2004 or 03) or a 2008-09 ES350. Pricing is about the same $9500 for either one in great condition with about 80 to 90k miles.
My question is which one would you choose ? It won’t be a commuter and average about 6 to 7 k miles a year
Just Seen a 2003 LS430 in awesome condition with 83k miles 2 owner for $9475 on CarGurus in Georgia I’m not ready but if I was would certainly give it a look.
I know the 430’s have issues with front suspension and Marc Levinson subwoofer but no main issues with the 5th gen ES350

I've owned 4 Cadillacs , 3 Lincoln Town cars ,etc ; but my 2002 Lexus ls430, is the best car (luxury & mechanical) that I've ever owned.
And, with 105,000 miles, it still runs like a scalded dog!
