I got my Italian greyhound puppy two weeks ago and I’ve been working with him multiple times a day every single day. He’s doing very well during training but not always that great in practical use. Like if I need him to sit and stay so I can leave the room without him squeezing past the door as I’m trying to close it 😆 he’s only 11 weeks though and I’m already so happy with how much he is learning.
I had my Iggy Lucy for 15 years before she went home last summer 🌈🌤 She was not highly trainable. She was a rebel and had her own mind and will. I loved her to pieces!!! They are just spirited Italians don’t forget. Don’t expect them to exist in any space like an average dog 👽 You actually can’t expect or treat them as regular dogs. This is why they don’t make good pets for everyone.
This made lol. Wen I got my Iggy I was shocked at how hard it was to train her even to sit. My other dogs it took minutes to train sit. My Iggy it took about a wk lol. I have worked so hard on her training tho and at 7 months she’s learnt so many tricks. Her recall is amazing. One thing I’ve learnt with her is u can’t train her for long periods. She can do 5 minutes at a time and she’s like yea I’m done now and just walks off lol Where as my spaniel will happily do training all day long. My Iggy like sprinkle is obsessed with food especially cooked chicken so I do all her training with chicken and she will do anything for chicken. Cedar is literally best trained dog I’ve ever seen.
@@brookethomo I love them both makes it even funnier to watch that u have a 😇 and a 😈 🤣 Oh and poor Bella “we don’t really like her she’s annoying” made me lol
I havent gotten my first Iggy yet, but it will happen. Sounds to me like Iggys are closely related to Chihuahuas, something i am very familar with. I have come to the conclusion that Chihuahuas have anywhere from 51% to 80% cat DNA. So if they don't train easy there is nothing you can do but keep trying. After 10 years my Chihuahuas still magically disappear and turn deaf whenever the toothbrushes, nail clippers or shampoo come out of the cupboard.
I'd be confused if I was that dog. It sat down six times early in the video with no praise or treat but the others got both. No wonder it didn't sit later on in the garden if its feeling as confused as I am and always viewed as being naughty. Confusing 🤔
Amazing work. I have heard that Greyhounds find it painful and difficult to sit, I don’t know if thats the same with Italian greyhounds. Just a possibility why sprinkle might be less likely to sit
Has Sprinkle done much training on grass? She's probably going to need a mat to work on. New yard, new surface, new distractions. Back to basics you go Sprinkle. Ceda, love the hose and shut the 'clothsline' trick. Nice back yard for an agility course🤗🐾💚
Just a suggestion, u use her name a lot when u aren't asking her to do something. Like when u tell her off. She is learning to block it out when she over hears it. Iggys respond well to the ch or finger clicking and hand gestures. They are intelligent. Our dog knows so many words. We do have trouble with recall at night when the possums are around. Id definitely give hand gestures a go tho. Because they are sight sound and there are ambiant noises, visual cues seem to work better.
My iggy was very food oriented. She had a fit if I fed her five minutes late. She was spoiled but I wouldn’t have traded her for anything. Btw my Gracie was chubby as well.
Your girl is so cute. And Ceda is such a smart dog! I have two Iggy boys. One of them REFUSES to let me trim his nails. I've tried everything! Does anyone have any advice? Thanks everyone!
he don't want THEY NEED affection and petting scratching, love, words and........ Food!!!! Long balade also! Isn't She? They are not dogs Like the other They really are Special!!!!!!!
Greyhounds have suuuper sensitive skin, she probably feels uncomfortable on grass. Mine do hehe. Also they don't actually "sit" when they sit, because of their anatomy they actually rest with their legs all on the same side let's say. Her ignoring you, is literally what mu greyhounds do too, when there's things they are more interested in.
I think if they don't have tummy problems they're all food driven. My little boy is much more compliant to go on the kennel. If I offer a treat than any of my other dogs? My min pinn what's Look at me like.? How long are you gonna be gone? I don't know if I wanna go in there
It's very difficult to train a dog that's brain is literally the size of a grape. It will take time and a ton of repetition and frustration. Had an Italian greyhound years ago. It would just stare at you like you were stupid when you took it outside to go to the bathroom, but the second he got back in the house he would run up the stairs, hide under the bed and piss or take a dump. They are good at running fast, thats it. They aren't very intelligent.

That’s so awesome! Go you 🥰
@brookethomo would love to see an update on how Sprinkles has progressed since this video. Ty
My Iggy whines, too, all the time, and he's SUPER smart and mischievous, hard to train. We love him so much, though, he's hilarious!

Sprinkle is just so beautiful. Iggy's are fabulous.

Wow really? That’s so interesting. They do have very different shaped bodies to the average dog so could definitely be a possibility!
“You’re a greyhound, where’s your spine??” 😂😂
i got my italian greyhound about a month ago

Omg! You’ve just given me an idea, making cedar her own agility course! She will absolutely love it 😍🥰
Bribery works well. Rewarding her good behavior with a small treat
Do you think whippets would be equally hard to teach commands to ?
I have no experience with whippets so wouldn’t have a clue sorry!
Sprinkle is such a character :D
Sprinkles is GORRRGeous and hilarious
I’ve had my Iggy for 13 years and it’s been the best 13 years of my life.

a bow is either an invite to play or a signal to say.. i feel tension let's relax a bit
She’s beautiful she doesn’t need to be good like in real life 😂
Oh wow. Our girl is only 13 weeks old and this is what we have to look forward to!
You might have a beautiful, compliant, gentle and quiet baby. Sprinkle just likes to be different and keep me on my toes 😂
My Gracie would not sit on grass or cement. I had to put a towel down.
They’re sweet dogs
I G LOVE food !
